Zika virus

A mosquito-borne virus that causes horrific birth defects in babies has spread to New York from Latin America.

ABC affiliate WABC-TV reports four cases of Zika virus have been confirmed in the New York area.

None of the cases involve pregnant women. At least 2 of the cases got the infection when they traveled outside of New York.

Ebola outbreak in Guinea

UK hospitals are on “high alert” over fears that the deadly Ebola virus could arrive on British shores.

The Ebola virus that causes hemorrhagic fever is highly contagious. 5 new infections have been diagnosed in Guinea in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of new infections to 127, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

WHO confirms Ebola has killed 80 people in Guinea. Ebola is classified as the “world’s deadliest virus”, with a mortality rate of 90 percent.

There is no cure or treatment for Ebola.

Once the onset of symptoms appear, death comes quickly. For this reason, health officials say it is unlikely the virus could reach Great Britain from western Africa.

Ebola outbreak in Guinea

The deadly Ebola virus outbreak has spread to Liberia and Sierra Leone from neighboring Guinea, health officials say.

The Ebola outbreak has killed 78 victims so far and the death toll is growing daily. So far four deaths in Liberia and Sierra Leone have been attributed to the deadly Ebola hemorrhagic fever. 2 health care workers are among the 118 new cases of Ebola, ABC News reports. The Ebola outbreak in Guinea is making headlines all over the world, primarily because there is no known cure or treatment for Ebola.
