The Obamas Attend Easter Service

President Barack Obama and his well-heeled family — first lady Michelle Obama and their daughters Malia and Sasha — attended Sunday’s Easter service at the 19th Street Baptist Church, where he also visited the Sunday before his first inauguration in 2009.

The very Reverend Dr. Derrick Harkins oversaw the service — as he did in 2009.

“Let me just say, to the first family, to the President of the United States, Barack Obama, to the first lady of the United States, and Miss Malia and Sasha, we welcome you,” Harkins said, according to a pool reporter at the service.

Pope Francis kissing feet

Photos of Pope Francis kissing the feet of young male inmates at a detention center are drawing mixed reactions. Partly because the pope broke from longstanding tradition and also kissed the feet of 2 women detainees as part of the pontiff’s Easter celebrations. The papal tradition of washing and kissing feet is usually reserved for kissing the feet of other male priests. Women have never been included in the papal tradition until Pope Francis’ era. Apparently Pope Francis has been routinely washing and kissing the feet of the poor and downtrodden for years.

Watch the video after the break.
