Georgie firefighters hailed as heroes

A Georgia firefighter is being hailed as a hero after he caught a child who was thrown "like a football" from a burning building in Decatur, Georgia, a city northeast of Atlanta.

The fire occurred on January 3 at the Avondale Forest Apartments in DeKalb County. The DeKalb County Fire Rescue Department uploaded the video of the rescue to Facebook.com on Sunday (watch video below).

Oakland fire

Oakland residents who live near the warehouse where 33 people were confirmed dead in a fire early Saturday say the tragedy could have been avoided.

City officials confirmed previous investigations into complaints about the warehouse in the Fruitvale neighborhood of Oakland. The structure was not zoned for parties or as a residential property.

2 buildings collapse in Harlem explosions

Neighbors reported smelling gas moments before huge blasts leveled two rent-controlled buildings in East Harlem, NY this morning.

168 firefighters are on the scene where two 5-story residential buildings collapsed after gas explosions between 116th and 117th Streets and Park Avenue in Harlem. The fires are still smoldering as numerous ambulances standby to transport the injured. Police report 63 injuries and at least 3 dead following the massive blasts.

The NYPD say there is no evidence of terrorism.
