R. Kelly was viciously attacked by another inmate who jumped the famed R&B singer in his Chicago jail cell, TMZ reports.
Federal law enforcement sources with direct knowledge tell TMZ the incident occurred inside the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Chicago.
Kelly, 53, was sitting on his bed when another inmate walked into his unlocked cell and started punching him.
TMZ sources say the younger inmate went on the attack because he was angry about the detention facility being placed on lock down due to Kelly protesters outside the jail.
The fight didn't last long, and it's unclear if another inmate or guards broke it up. Our sources say Kelly was examined by a doctor, who determined the singer was okay, no broken bones or serious injuries.
A spokesperson for the Federal Bureau Of Prisons tells TMZ, it cannot comment on an individual inmate's conditions of confinement or medical status due to privacy and safety reasons.
Kelly's attorney, Steven Greenberg declined to discuss the incident with the gossip tabloid, and said Kelly's been a model inmate.
The "I Believe I Can Fly" singer was arrested in 2019 and charged with multiple counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of minors.
He turned himself in at the Cook County Jail, and the facility's 6,100 inmates was on lockdown whenever Kelly was on the move there.
Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office
A Florida inmate who assaulted a deputy is facing additional felony charges tacked on to his original drug and gun possession charges.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said 38-year-old inmate Michler Gabriel will face additional felony charges after he assaulted one of their deputies at the Orient Road Jail on Tuesday morning.
Surveillance video shows Gabriel waiting impatiently for the deputy to unlock a door to exit a jail pod. The deputy pushed Gabriel away from the door twice, but Gabriel refused to back away. At one point, Gabriel sucker punched the deputy.
Another deputy who witnessed the assault subdued Gabriel and held him until more deputies arrived.
The deputy was transported to Tampa General Hospital for treatment. The Sheriff's office said the deputy was treated for facial bruises, swelling and lacerations.
Gabriel was being held at the jail on multiple charges including: driving on a suspended license, possession of a controlled substance, possession of weed, armed drug trafficking, possession of cocaine, felony weapons possession and carrying a concealed firearm.
WRBL reports that Gabriel now faces additional charges of battery on a law enforcement officer and battery by a detained person, both felonies.
"While I am thankful that the deputy involved was not seriously hurt, we will make sure that Gabriel is prosecuted to the fullest extent for his actions," said Sheriff Chad Chronister.
A cell phone video leaked out of Nassau County jail appears to show half a dozen jail inmates assaulting Nicki Minaj's pedo brother, Jelani Maraj, 39.
The Facebook user who posted the video identified the inmate being attacked as Maraj, who was convicted last year in the 2014 rape of his then-11-year-old stepdaughter.
