Tamar Braxton The One

Friend of the blog, Tamar Braxton's new single, "The One", was just released on iTunes. Tamar's breezy vocals bounces along to a sample of "Juicy Fruit" by Mtume. The uptempo track also samples The Notorious BIG's "Juicy", off his 1994 debut album Ready to Die. "The One" is sure to be the anthem of the Summer, just as "Juicy Fruit" was for us back in 1983.

Chris Brown

Loyal reader Bird informed me that troubled singer Chris Brown released a new song this morning, titled "I Can't Win", in which he laments about being with a girl who's in love with a bottle. I'm not one to put much stock in song lyrics, but in this case, I wonder who he's talking about?

Why you angry all the time?
Why you don't wanna ride for me?
Girl we used to make love
When you called I would follow
Now the only thing you love is a bottle

Listen to the song and read the lyrics after the break.

Ashanti Never Should Have

R&B singer Ashanti reminisces about love gone wrong in this latest single off her upcoming album, Braveheart. Ashanti is all too familiar with heartbreak and being the innocent victim of a smooth criminal who never loved her in the first place. The 32-year-old "Foolish" singer spent several years of her life in an unfulfilling relationship with rapper Nelly, who considered himself single throughout their relationships. All the red flags were there that the relationship would end badly, but Ashanti -- like most needy women -- ignored the signs.

Brandy and Beyonce R&B singer Brandy, who hasn't had a hit record in years, opened up about her new role in Tyler Perry's movie, 'Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor.'

The 34-year-old mother-of-one also gave her opinion on Beyonce's controversial single "Bow Down (B*tches)" which struck a negative chord with Beyonce's Stans and music critics alike.

In an interview with theGrio’s Chris Witherspoon, Brandy said Beyonce should be given the artistic freedom to express herself in her lyrics, even if her lyrics make her look ignorant.

“I think art is freedom. You should be able to express yourself the way you choose to express yourself. Of course people are gonna have their own opinion, but opinion is opinion. I think art should be expressed the way it should,” she said.

But when asked if she liked the song, Brandy agreed with the majority consensus that the song was garbage.

“I don’t love the song. I just have to be honest. You know," she said.

Johnny Gill R&B crooner Johnny Gill was featured on last night's edition of TV One's acclaimed music series 'Unsung'.

One of the subjects that viewers tuned in to hear Gill discuss were the rampant bisexual rumors that have dogged him over the years.

Gill, 46, who dated R&B singer Stacey Lattisaw when he was 15-years-old, seemed conflicted when talking about the persistent gay rumors.

On the one hand he says he has "compassion" for homosexuals, but on the other hand, he says, "it just doesn't feel good."

"If I could tell you why I sure would have by now … at this point in time I would have been able to cure that issue … to get rid of that issue," he explained.

"I took (sic) for the life of me never, never understood where it came from, why it lasted as it's lasted."

    Prince

You don't understand how the young girls swooned over this man when his single "Soft and Wet" was released in 1978. We didn't have blogs or even the Internet back then, so we didn't see Prince's Metrosexuality gradually transform before our very eyes. Prince emerged on the scene at a time when the Jackson 5's popularity was waning, and he was so beautiful with his piercing brown eyes and big afro.
