Sen. Al Franken resigns from senate

Sen. Al Franken announced his resignation from the United States Senate on Thursday, Dec. 7. Franken’s resignation comes one day after 35 Democratic senators, many of them women, called for him to step down after 7 women accused him of sexual harassment.

The disgraced lawmaker announced he will clean out his desk in the coming weeks. Franken was expected to resign today after an aide released a statement saying the senator had an announcement to make.
