Once again, social media users took a seemingly innocent social media message and turned it into a ridiculous rumor.
Earlier this week rumors flew that socialite Kimora Lee Simmons was shacking up with Cash Money Records co-founder Bryan “Baby” Williams, aka Birdman. Just yesterday I chastised a young reader for emailing me about this silly rumor. I reminded her that Kimora is dating a Caucasian man. Now comes word that Kimora and her beau (whom she barely knows) have tied the knot.
Socialite Kimora Lee Simmons, 2nd from left, and her new man are spending the holidays in Saint Barts, France with her kids, Ming Lee Simmons, Aoki Lee Simmons and Kenzo Lee Hounsou. Also vacationing in St. Barts is Aoki and Ming’s father Russell Simmons (not pictured). Kenzo’s father is actor Djimon Hounsou.
Media mogul Russell Simmons says President Obama’s troubled health care law has already saved thousands, if not millions, of lives. Simmons made his ludicrous claims in an op-ed post on his website, Global Grind.
“Yes, we initially wanted single payer, and we had to compromise back in 2009 for the Affordable Care Act,” Simmons wrote. “But, [Obamacare] is a damn good piece of legislation that has already saved hundreds of thousands, if not millions of lives. So, let us not give up now.”
Simmons did not provide any statistics or evidence to back up his claims.
Single mother Kimora Lee Simmons, 38, landed at London’s Heathrow Airport today along with her three kids, Aoki Lee Simmons, 10, Kenzo Lee Hounsou, 4, and Ming Lee Simmons, 13. Kenzo’s father is actor Djimon Hounsou, who dumped Kimora last year. The girls’ father is media mogul Russell Simmons, 55.
Why am I not surprised that Eddie Murphy is dating Russell Simmons’ leftovers? Male celebrities frequently recycle the same broads like they collect cars. Dating the same woman that another celebrity used and discarded seems to be a popular pastime in Hollywood.
Murphy’s latest conquest, Paige Butcher, used to date Simmons and model Tyson Beckford, among others. Obviously she doesn’t mind being used goods as long as her bills are paid.
A writer for Ebony.com took Russell Simmons to task for his “half-hearted” blog post condemning little known rapper Lil Reese for assaulting a woman. The writer, Sil Lai Abrams, is a relationship expert and a victim of domestic abuse herself. Lil Reese’s violent assault on high school graduate Tiairah Marie was captured on a cell phone video that went viral online.
Reese later apologized for his earlier defiant response to the public outrage — but only after radio programmers and DJs threatened to boycott his music.
Russell Simmons, who was criticized for approving a post on Global Grind written by a black woman defending Reese’s behavior, wrote a tweet indicating he had no editorial control over his own blog.
“I deplore the violence one editor said boycott him the other said team them I said nothing,” Simmons tweeted on Oct. 29. He later deleted his tweet.
I was waiting for Hip Hop apologist Russell Simmons to defend the latest incidence of senseless violence in Hip Hop, and Russell did not disappoint. Simmons is always quick to defend rappers who commit assault, rape and other offenses. This time he used a woman to do his dirty work for him.
In an editorial published on Simmons’ blog Global Grind, Evanka Williamson defended Chicago rapper Lil Reese’s actions in a viral video that shows him brutally beating a young woman last year. Reese is also under investigation in the shooting death of 16-year-old Chicago rapper Lil Jojo.
It’s worth noting that Lil Reese did not apologize for his violent behavior until radio program directors and DJs threatened to boycott his records.
