Miss Honduras dead

A misunderstanding reportedly led to the death of Miss Honduras, Maria Jose Alvarado, according to the Honduras National Police.

Alvarado, 19, and her older sister, Sofia Trinidad Hernandez, 23, went missing last week just days before she was to travel to London to compete in the Miss World competition.

Sentenced to death in Sudan for refusing to recant her Christian faith, Meriam, her husband and their 2 children, toddler Martin and infant Maya who was born in prison, arrived in Italy on Thursday.

An Italian diplomat who accompanied the family from Sudan said Italy relied on its historic ties within the Horn of Africa region to negotiate Ibrahim's release.

Incarcerated singer Chris Brown and his ex-girlfriend Karrueche Tran are among the celebrities who have joined forces to bring attention to the 234 missing Nigerian schoolgirls who were kidnapped by militants 2 weeks ago.

Someone updated Brown's official Twitter account today with this haunting image of a young Nigerian girl in tears. The caption reads "#Bring Back Our Girls."

Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 vanished into thin air without a trace shortly after leaving Kuala Lumpur early Saturday. At least 10 countries have joined in the air and sea search for the missing plane. Investigators are focusing on the identities of two passengers who were carrying stolen passports. The two men were initially described as Asians.

Gulf countries testing gay travelers

Kuwait and other Gulf states are planning to test travelers with a chemical designed to detect gay people -- and bar them from entering the country.

UK's Daily Mail reports the Gulf Corporation member countries – Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates -- already ban homosexual sex acts as unlawful.

Kuwait plans to use a test to detect the health status of travelers -- specifically testing for diseases and conditions known to afflict gays, such as HIV, pneumocystis carinii pneumonia and Kaposi's Sarcoma.

Rapists sentenced to death

4 of the six Indian men charged with brutally raping and torturing a New Delhi woman were sentenced to hang for their crimes. An Indian court handed down the sentence today for the gang rape of 23-year-old Jyoti Singh Pande and the savage beating of her male friend on a bus last December.

As the death sentence was read, the four doomed mean wailed in the courtroom. Vinay Sharma, 20, the bus driver, Akshay Thakur, 28, Pawan Gupta, 19, and Mukesh Singh, all claimed innocence.

Jyoti's death sparked mass riots in New Delhi and outrage all over the world.

One of the six rapists, Ram Singh, 33, hanged himself in prison. THe youngest rapist -- and the one who reportedly committed the worst atrocities upon Jyoti -- was tried as a juvenile. Now 19, he was sentenced to serve only 3 years in a reform school.

A 20-year-old rapper was shot dead in front of 3,000 shocked fans in Brazil early Sunday. Cell phone footage shows MC Daleste talking to the crowd when a shot rang out and the rapper fell to the stage mortally wounded. MC Daleste, real name Daniel Pellegrine, was giving a free performance at a public housing complex in San Paolo when he was shot. The rapper was rushed to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. MC Daleste's grieving father said jealousy and envy were to blame for the violence that claimed his son's life.

Woman Killed By Runaway Shopping Cart

A 60-year-old grandmother was killed by an overloaded shopping cart in Shanghai, China. The accident happened at the Lianhua supermarket on Friday morning.

CCTV footage captured the woman pushing her own cart down a flat escalator in the store. The woman apparently heard a sound that made her turn around seconds before the runaway cart sped down the escalator and crashed into her, throwing her violently against a concrete pillar.

Seconds later, 2 men are seen sprinting down the escalator to help the woman. But she died from massive internal bleeding.
