Ruben Studdard dropped from J Records?

I hope this isn’t true. Rumor is American Idol’s 2nd season winner, Ruben Studdard was dropped from J Records today due to poor record sales of his last disc. If it is true, Ruben will be picked up by another label pronto. He is truly a talented brother who is deserving of all the accolades he has received.

Here’s an email I received from a loyal reader:

Hey Sandra,
I just wanted to let you know my brother tours as a background singer for Ruben Studdard and he was just informed today that Ruben was dropped by J Records. The sales were just too bad from his last album. He has only sold 234,000 copies.

Meanwhile, Ruben will return to host American Idol Rewind, in which he and runner-up Clay Aiken will bring back memories of Ruben’s historical 2nd season victory through behind the scenes video.

Thats the sad thing about the music business..no matter how talented you are, if you aint selling records you will get dropped like a bag of hot garbage, Its just sad because hes really talented.

I am super sad to hear it because he’s so talented. But I knew this was going to happen because the industry is so finicky. They want a slim r&b crooner and unfortunately Ruben wasn’t it.

They didn’t market his project the right way and he’s punished for their lack of vision. Music industry SUCKS right now…meanwhile Britney is still getting videos.

Sucks to be Reuben. But I think the whole American Idol thing is on its last leg. The runners up and winners of the last two (Jordin and Blake; Taylor and Katharine) have had really poor record sales.

As far as Jordin Sparks shes not selling the music that appeals to the kids…so I can see why shes not selling..and besides I didnt even know her album was out yet, so shes not being marketed correctly either. Sad part is she can actually sing too.

Chris Daughtry, Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson and Elliot Yamin are tearing it up with record sales and they are American Idol finalists.

It does have a lot to do with the genres they choose; Pop exposes you to a bigger audience, but it also has to do with marketing. How are you going to buy a CD that you don’t know exists?

Jordin song choices suck.

Considering Clay was the favorite as it was..how does that look to do an AI rewind with the person they really wanted? Somebody get on promotion STAT for Reuben..he’s too talented to just be swept under the rug
