Andre 3000’s movie Semi Pro Flops at the Box Office

Box office critics predicted a big weekend for New Line Cinemas’ movie “Semi Pro” starring Will Ferrell and Andre “3000” Benjamin. But the basketball comedy took in only $5.7 million on Friday night, leaving critics scratching their heads.

The stunning failure at the box office is calling into question the career of Ferrell who had back-to-back hits with “Talladega Nights” and “Blades of Glory.”

Dre 3000, in the meantime, has never had a hit movie. Maybe it’s time for him to go back into the studio full time and leaving the acting to real actors.

Sandra, it seems you selectively chose to leave out the fact that despite just pulling in $5.7 mil on Friday night, Semi-Pro, was the top movie at the weekend, grossing $15.1 mil. It was a disappointing number, but if you’re going to give the numbers, just don’t give a partial number to make your point. Give the entire picture. Box office numbers are not just based on the numbers from Friday night alone.

i thought 4 brothers was also a hit, i enjoyed 4 brothers and Idlewild. He can continue to act, look at numerous actors who dnt have hit movies and they still continue to act. keep doing ya thank Andre.

Andre is not the star of this movie so I’m sure he wasn’t expected to carry it. That being said, I had never heard of this movie at all until I saw the box office numbers on the news. I’m a big time couch potato and a news addict so I’m wondering where they advertised this movie. You have to put a little something something into marketing and it seems they missed the mark.

Andre keep doing your thing babe!! The best role Samuel Jackson ever played was the father in FRESH, but does he get recognition for that? NOPE!! So don’t worry about your critics they will catch on soon enough.

***** SIDE NOTE*********Just becuase the films didn’t gross the way people expected them to doesn’t mean that they are not good or that Andre should stop acting. It just means that people should stop allowing the media to spoon feed them what’s hot and do a little research. We tell people to do research on every other aspect of their lives, why not where we spend our entertainment dollars?

Yeah, they said it was the lowest gross film for an open for Will Farrell (i think thats his name)….So, no one was looking at Andre as the star of the movie.

I loved Andre in “Four Brothers”.

People might be sick of Will Ferrell’s same sports formula. Race car driving, ice skating and now Basketball. They’re so similar with predictable endings.

I saw ads for the movie (sans Andre) and vowed not to spend a dime on it. Maybe I’ll catch it when it comes to basic cable.

I think the fact the movie industry is releasing a string of flops speaks to the fact that consumers are going to need a bit more substance to validate that $20 outing. Shoot the caliber of movies being released are all poor, boo for the movie studios, you need to do better

I don’t think it’s about Wil or Dre, I personally think that more people are finding other options then going to the movies, which is expensive.

Sandra are you illiterate? Over 5 million dollars for one days is good considering some movies make 5 million over an entire weekend. It is actually the #1 movie of the week. What kind of entertainment “insider” are you?

He was decent in 4 Brothers, but again I say leave acting to actors. He is a very good rapper, stick with what ya know. Will Ferrell was funny in the beginning, you can’t continue a career with cornball jokes. Slapstick comedy is short lived until the next ‘goofball’ comes around.

Who wants to pay $$$$ to see the same movie line?

Where was the promo? I didn’t even realize he had a movie out…

Looking at the top ten list that Nix provided, that competition was weak – I heard of maybe 2 of those movies listed and only interested in seeing possibly Jumper.

I love Will Ferrell. He can do know wrong. Dude has another movie coming out called Step Brother with the guy that was his co-star in Talladega Nights. The trailer is out on Youtube. Check it out. all I will say is “bunkbeds”!!!!!

I miss Andre 3000 the rapper…I was just watching the old Bombs over Baghdad video and it made realize that Andre is a much needed asset to hip-hop music! I can’t believe he giving up rapping for acting..wasted talent!! I’m always glad to see people diversify but, come on Dre…we miss u Southerplayalistcadillacmuzik…can’t nobody do it like him!!

Well I happen to love Andre & I think he does a pretty decent job in the acting category!! I know Idlewild didn’t do all that great but I like the concept, I think he is really talented & will definitley go places, I mean you can’t rap forever!! & I doubt that anything Will Ferrell is in will flop I’ll admit he has some pretty crazy movies but he’s funny as hell!! I liket he movie he did when he was an Elf & I know everbody loves Night at the Roxbury thats a comedy classic!!!
