Complete speech by presidential candidate Barack Obama on the status of race in America and the hope for a better future. Obama spoke in Philadelphia, PA at Constitution Center on March 18, 2008. Many agree that this is Obama’s ‘I Have a Dream’ speech.

This is the first time I have heard SO MANY people talking about race…white, black, etc.

It will be sad if the pastor’s words will be his downfall, because it looks like those video clips, have given certain people an excuse not to vote for him. People are so hypocritical. And all of these people act like they have never been in the presence of a friend or family member, and heard racial slurs or stereotypes, the hypocrisy is sickening. Did they cut them off?

The speech was inspiring and presidential, though.

Obama is making us all feel really proud!
It was about time we stand out in other areas than sport and music; we are also able to shine in politics, economics and other important matters. Yes, we can.
Even if he actually wins it will be necessary much more than a dark man living at the White House to change this racist country worldwide paradoxically known as land of freedom and equality. As Chamillionaire said “The White House is going to stay white even tho’ we know Obama’s black”.

I need to do a blog on this because my comment would be too long. Let me just say this man is the MFn man. Do you hear me? I pray this speech allows him to move past this issue. I think he handled it far better than he even needed to. It’s now a positive for him.

I may i’m confused but i’m not understanding why Obama’s pastor is getting backlashed for the comments he made. The country IS ran by rich white people called the “Elite”…maybe people should look up the freemasons and the Illuminati. Rockefeller and the Rothschilds are one of the most powerful families that are BEHIND the curtain of the government…people should do their research

First of all – great speech by Obama. He showed intelligence, compassion and emotion without sounding “preachy.” One of the “working-class white men” in Ohio commented that he couldn’t vote for Obama because he felt like Obama was “speaking down to him,” and that if Obama was the Democratic nominee, he’d vote for McCain. I believe a large number of whites feel this way.

I believe the huge backlash Obama received is due to what I’d call, “white fear.” Some white folks, in my opinion, are fearful that if a Black man gets into office, then he will exact revenge on white folks for all the physical, emotional, and most importantly, institutional wrongs they’ve committed against the brown & black folks in this country. THINK ABOUT IT, FOLKS! ISN’T THAT THE REAL REASON WHITE FOLKS ARE UP IN ARMS? What I’d really like to know is how that footage made its way to The Huffington Post in the first place – WHO IS REALLY PULLING THE STRINGS?

I agree with Abhor_ : When I listened to the pastor’s speech – I agreed with him on many points, as I’m sure MANY black folks in this nation did. This country IS AND CONTINUES TO BE run by RICH WHITE MEN, which is why we had to have constitutional amendments to abolish slavery, grant citizenship to former slaves and grant voting rights to blacks and women in the first place. I’ve had NY cabs whiz by me or give some other excuse as to why I can’t get a ride. I’ve been pulled over by cops for “acting suspicously” when I was circling the block looking for a parking space. I’ve had people follow me around stores.

From what I’ve seen, I think Obama has what it takes to be an effective leader, and whether he wins the presidency or not, he can still be a great national figure. THINK ABOUT THIS – IF Obama doesn’t win now, then MAYBE DAVID A. PATTERSON (the first Black governor of New York who’s well-respeced by both Democrats and Republicans) will have the chance to win later!

Luckily not all white people will feel this way. This speech is and inspiration to his supporters and might win over some undecideds.

Very good speech. He is a very intelligent man. He spoke in a way no other politican ever has. Wether he wins the presidental election or not he will go far.

Let me start by saying that everyone has said what I wanted to say with strong compassion. Therefore on that note I have nothing to add, but what I will say is this. I get tired (as I am sure many minorities do) of feeling like I have to speak for everyone of my race, gender, religion, and etc. As Obama stated and my us have as well race was going to have to be at the center of his campaign. The question is not “why”, the question is when are we going to learn that in order to move forward people must start by accepting the fact that there are differences in opinions, actions, thought processes, and so forth. I may have a group of friends that share a common belief, but we do not and will not always agree. I can no more speak for what they will or will not do, than they can speak for me. The bottom line is “people” want to stick Obama in a little black box, and even if you wanted to you cannot. Okay, I think I said enough for now. By the way I applaud the post, thus far.:)

Media is being biased once again, but can’t say I’m surprised people would be paying attention to his pastor and think they Obama thinks like that.People are sooo phony these days!They love to see this.They love to see a downfall of a black man, which will never happen.Obama posses qualities of a leader.They doing everything to bring this man down and they can’t!I just love it, don’t ever back down.He should be an inspiration to most if not all.

Whomever people vote for – it should be based on issues and character, not race. Obama has given all of America a very good sense of what is character is, and I am satisfied with that.

Great you got the video to go with the speech!
Watched it live yesterday. Enjoyed and felt so inspired by the speech i had to do a musical rendition of it. it’s the second one I did…first one was his declaration to run for top office last year.
