Actress Daveigh Chase, star of The Ring and Lilo & Stitch, died from a meningitis infection and septicemia. She was 35.
The former child star died on Tuesday, June 15, after battling a case of meningitis, a blood infection and sepsis that caused her organs to shut down, according to her boyfriend Roy Hernandez.
TMZ reports Chase was admitted to a Los Angeles hospital earlier this month for malnutrition. No other details are available about her death.
Chase rose to fame at a young age in her breakout role voicing Lilo in Disney’s Lilo & Stitch film in 2002. She also reprised her role in the franchise’s TV series in 2006.
Chase portrayed Samara in the horror film The Ring (2002) and she played Samantha Darko in Richard Kelly’s cult film Donnie Darko.
Prior to her breakout role, she also voiced the character of Chihiro Ogino in the American dub of Spirited Away.
Chase appeared in the 2016 horror film Jack Goes Home, but did not appear in any other roles. She was awarded the 2003 Best Villain award at the MTV Movie Awards for her performance in The Ring.
Chase appeared in television shows including Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Charmed, The Practice, ER, Touched by an Angel, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Cold Case, and Without a Trace.
