A man is going viral on TikTok after posting a video that shows his disabled Ford Bronco SUV stranded on a busy roadway. TikTok influencer Scott Lubik said Ford disabled his SUV for missing a single payment.
“So, my brand new Bronco with 3,000 miles on it is broke down,” Scott said on Monday, July 27. “I don’t think Ford realizes how rough it is out here. I’m doing my best,” he added.
The video showed large vehicles zooming by his disabled SUV. “Ok, I could be killed. I mean, like, 60 mile-an-hour traffic here. My truck, broken. I could be killed.”
Scott captioned the TikTok video, “Ford shut my Bronco off on expressway because I missed payment. But I am in danger!”
He wondered aloud if disabling vehicles remotely to force a payment is a scam.
Ford did not respond to inquiries by X (Twitter) users on Monday.
Scott’s followers are just as angry as he is. What if he was rushing a sick child to the hospital?
One TikTok user wrote: “I will NEVER buy a car that someone else controls. Why the f*** would you???”
Another user wrote: “First mistake was buying a Bronco. Second mistake was buying a 2026 and older. Boycott new vehicles.”
A third person advised TikTok users: “Don’t buy new cars with kill switches.”
Ford began remotely disabling vehicles using Start Inhibit in 2023 as part of its anti-theft technology, according to Car Scoops.
Ford F-150s and Ford F-250s are the among most common stolen vehicles every year, according to the National Insurance Crime Bureau.
When a truck is reported stolen, Ford’s call center works with police to locate the truck, disable it, and lead police to the truck’s location.
But disabling a vehicle over a late payment is a nightmare for consumers.
As Autowire.com noted last year, Ford’s remote kill switch isn’t really about stopping car theft.
Ford can remotely disable the 2026 Expedition, 2026 Bronco Sport, 2026 Mustang Mach-E and more.
