Nolan Wells’ mom Christine Wonsley hit social media giants with subpoenas requesting his messages and data. The subpoenas request information into the 18-year-old college football player’s communications with friends before his suspicious death.
There are reports that one of Nolan’s friends may have deleted messages on Nolan’s phone after the teen went missing on July 4.
Nolan’s body was found face down near the shoreline on Horn Island on July 6. He was reported missing by his family after he celebrated July 4 with friends on the island off the coast of Mississippi.
The subpoenas were issued to Snapchat, WhatsApp, TikTok, Meta Platforms and the location-tracking app Life360, according to court documents obtained by the Sun Herald.
The paperwork asked the social media platforms to provide all communications and information related to Nolan’s accounts, including chats, posts, stories, and other information, according to the Sun Herald.
The news comes after a law firm representing the family sent notice to Nolan’s friends announcing their intention to sue them.
“You are hereby placed on notice that litigation concerning the death of Nolan Wells is reasonably anticipated,” read the letter from Carroll Bufkin, PLLC, a Mississippi-based law firm associated with Ben Crump.
An independent autopsy, requested by Crump and conducted in Washington, D.C., was inconclusive because Nolan’s major organs (brain, lungs, and neck structures) were removed during the first autopsy.
