Pharrell’s rings were overtly different than the traditional wedding band in size, shape and the number of diamond carats. His modern male wedding rings are gender-specific and more masculine.

According to WWD, Pharell accented the traditional gold post-wedding band with a massive rock on his ring finger. His rings were similar to the stacked wedding rings worn by his wife, Helen Lasichanh, at the same event.

WWD predicts that more men will adopt Pharrell’s masculine ring stack.

The style choice stuck out like a proverbial middle finger to gender norms associated with engagement rings and wedding bands, offering a modern blueprint for men, who, up until now, have left the diamond decoration to their partners. Given that Williams already had a penchant for statement jewelry, we’ll likely see the nascent male accessorizers adopt a modest version of his “engagement ring,” most likely in smaller sizes. Think studded bands and half-carat rows.
