Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Productions released the terrifying first trailer for “Other Mommy,” starring Oscar winner Jessica Chastain.

The film follows a young girl who is threatened by a sinister alien that looks exactly like her mother.

Chastain plays a dual role as Ursula, mom to a young girl named Bela (Arabella Olivia Clark), and as an alien who looks like Ursula’s twin. Bela eventually realizes the body double is not her real mommy. She refers to the invader as her “other mommy.”

She tells her other mommy that she’s not supposed to leave her bedroom. Of course, the demon doesn’t listen. She walks into the kitchen and attempts to cook lunch for Bela.

“How about scrambled eggs?” she says while cracking an egg on the kitchen counter.

“We ate that for breakfast,” Bela reminds her. “That’s right. I forgot. How about pasta? Your favorite,” the alien says.

When the invader sets the kitchen on fire and fills the house with smoke, Ursula’s husband (Jay Duplass) runs into the kitchen and discovers the alien folded under the kitchen table like a giant tarantula.

The shock of seeing her under the table causes him to fall backwards through the sliding glass door.

Later, Bela explains to Ursula that her “other mommy” lives in the house with them and she’s “nice.”

According to the movie’s summary, Other Mommy is “a terrifying trip into the darkening world of a young girl, Bela, who forms a relationship with a sinister entity in her home who looks uncannily like her own mother.”

Chastain, 49, won an Academy Award for The Eyes of Tammy Faye (2021). She was nominated twice for Best Supporting Actress for The Help (2011) and Best Actress for Zero Dark Thirty (2012).

Other Mommy opens in theaters on October 9.
