A 15-year-old Detroit boy will be tried as an adult for a fatal liquor store shooting earlier this month.
Isaiah Gordon is charged with the fatal shooting of Faith Williams, 60, and wounding her niece, 29, at an east side liquor store on August 21.
Gordon faces a first-degree murder charge, three counts of assault with intent to murder and four felony-firearm charges. Police said he also shot at a passing vehicle as he fled the crime scene. The vehicle’s 2 occupants were not injured.
Gordon’s brother turned him in to Detroit police at the Ninth Precinct on August 22.
Prosecutor Kym Worthy charged Gordon as an adult and remanded him to a juvenile facility to await trial. If he is found guilty he could face life in prison.
“We are waiving this defendant to adult court. His alleged actions against our completely innocent victims were unprovoked and unimaginable. He must be held accountable for his actions in spite of his personal circumstances,” Worthy said in a statement.
Surveillance video shows Williams and her niece approaching the liquor store. Williams held the door open for the teenager and she appeared to smile at him as he exited the store.
Gordon abruptly turned around and shot Williams and her niece multiple times.
Williams’ niece said they did not speak to the teen before he started shooting.
Surveillance video after the shooting shows Gordon bopping down the street while listening to drill music on his cell phone as he held his mother’s obituary.
In a social media post on August 21, the teen’s family members said he is mourning the recent death of his mother and he has not been the same since she passed.
