A 15-year-old boy opened fire on two women, killing one, in Detroit, Michigan, on Friday, August 21.
The shooting happened around 11:15 p.m. at a liquor store in Detroit’s Morningside neighborhood, according to Metro Detroit News.
Surveillance video shows Faith Williams, 57, and her niece approaching the liquor store, then Williams held the door open for the teenager. As he exited the store, he abruptly turned around and shot Williams and her niece multiple times.
Williams died at the scene, while her niece remains hospitalized. Williams’ niece said they did not speak to the teen before he started shooting.
In a social media post on Saturday, the teen’s family members said he is mourning the recent death of his mother and he has not been the same since she passed.
Police released surveillance video that shows him bopping to drill music on his cell phone as he held his mother’s obituary.
The suspect was taken into custody on Saturday morning. His name was not released since he is a juvenile.
