Former Cambridge professor Jason Arday was found dead in the UK, a week after he resigned amid allegations of plagiarism.
Arday, 41, was found “unresponsive” in south London, according to the UK Telegraph.
“Sadly, a 41-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. His next-of-kin have been informed and are being supported by officers,” a spokesman for the Metropolitan Police told the newspaper.
Police said no foul play is suspected.
“At this time his death is being treated as unexpected, but is not believed to be suspicious. The case is being investigated by officers from the Met’s Central South Command Unit,” the spokesman said.
Arday was the youngest Black professor in the university’s history. But his academic career was marred by allegations of plagiarism and fake credentials.
In his memoir, Arday said he overcame autism and other disabilities that left him nonverbal until almost age 12. He was unable to read or write until age 18, then he earned a Ph.D. at age 23 and became the youngest Black professor at Cambridge in 2023.
He also claimed to have run 30 marathons in 35 days while raising as much as $7.5 million (USD) for charity. And that he was visited twice at his office by a masked intruder, once while wielding a knife.
