Michelle Obama says Megan Thee Stallion reminds her of her youngest daughter, Sasha Obama. The rapper joined the former first lady and her brother Craig Robinson for a chat on their IMO podcast.
Michelle complimented the “Hot Girl Summer” rapper by saying she reminds her of her daughter Sasha. Michelle said Megan’s personality and her energy feel familiar.
Michelle said Megan’s energy “feels familiar.”

The conversation turned personal when the two women bonded over the loss of their mothers. Megan’s mother, aspiring rapper Holly Thomas, aka “Holly-Wood,” died in March 2019 from brain cancer.
“When my mom passed away, I immediately still had to be Megan Thee Stallion. And so I’m literally trying to figure out how to grieve, how to perform, how to go through everything I’m going through and still do it in front of everybody,” Megan said. “So I’ve learned to just feel what I’m feeling. And just feel it. If it’s pain, if it’s sadness, I have to express it. I might get under my bed and cry. I don’t know, but I have to feel it because I’m never going to be able to come out of it if I don’t get it out of my system.”

Megan said it took a lot of work to get over her mother’s passing. She started by isolating herself and limiting her time spent on social media. Now she’s working on being more social. She understands that sometimes people are just not going to like you.
“It was a point in life when I didn’t want to do anything. I didn’t want to go anywhere. I don’t want to be filmed eating. I don’t want to be filmed getting coffee. I don’t want to be filmed talking to people. Like, just bye, I’m not going outside. And I would be like a vampire in my room in the dark all the time until I had to go be social,” she explained. “So I’m starting to do the simple things again because I definitely was in my head for a long time. I was not in a good space… But now I’m doing more Megan things. I feel better. I feel a little less heavy.”

Michelle praised Megan for being a role model and inspiration to young Black women.
“You are giving more young women, young Black women, all kinds of people the permission to not have to be strong all the time,” Mrs. Obama said.
Megan responded: “I feel like strong shows up in so many different ways. It’s not about being tough or just stoic. It’s about what you look like. I think it’s about being. Like, brave enough to keep going. Brave enough to be like, I don’t want to do this. Just brave enough to feel how you feel and have your boundaries. Saying yes to everything doesn’t make you strong.”
