Perez Hilton’s mother, Teresita Lavandeira, filed for temporary custody of his three children, Mario Lavandeira III, Mia Lavandeira and Mayte Lavandeira, after he displayed self-harming behavior in a livestream video.
According to TMZ, Perez Hilton signed over custodial rights of the three children to Teresita. The consent allows her to make all medical and dental decisions for the children, obtain copies of their official records such as birth certificates, and enroll them in school.
“The children in this case should not be subjected to any further trauma related to the incidents that are the basis of the petition.”
Perez, 48, was hospitalized after livestreaming apparent self-harming behavior at his Miami, Florida home on Tuesday, August 4.
Multiple TikTok users called 911 to report Perez apparently cut himself with a knife during a video livestream.
A niece and his three children fled the house “just minutes before” the livestream began, according to the family.
The video shows the blogger with a substance that appears to be blood smeared all over his body. He dragged the knife over his arms, chest and neck while moaning into the camera.
TikTok permanently banned Perez’s account within 15-20 minutes. A spokesperson for TikTok confirmed to PEOPLE that a “moderator error” prevented them from immediately banning his account when he violated community policy.
After mental health personnel communicated with Perez, he was “safely recovered and transported by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue to a local hospital, where he is receiving medical attention,” police said.
Perez is reportedly locked on a psychiatric ward, where he is likely to remain for months or years.
Perez allegedly suffered an apparent mental breakdown over his declining popularity and financial difficulties, according to sources.

In a post on Perez’s blog, the family asked for privacy for his children. They asked the media to stay away from the family’s house, which is located near Perez’s Miami home.
