Emmy Award-winning character actor Tim Curry has died at age 80. He was found deceased in his Los Angeles home on Wednesday, August 26, according to The Associated Press.
No cause of death was disclosed. Curry, who suffered a stroke in 2012, was wheelchair-dependent.
The actor is best known for his roles in the musical Hair (1968-1969) and as the quirky Dr. Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Show musical and in the film The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975).
He also played the smug concierge in “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.”
Curry won a daytime Emmy Award for his work as Captain Hook on Peter Pan & the Pirates (1990–1991), as well as nominations for a Grammy Award and three Tony Awards.
Rocky Horror Picture Show pushed the boundaries of morality and tested LGBTQ+ acceptance in the 1979s.
“I like playing the more curious corners of the human mind and human behavior, partly because they’re a tad more interesting,” Curry told The Associated Press in 1993.
Curry’s perfect portrayal of a lingerie-wearing transvestite led fans to wonder if he was gay.
In his memoir, Curry said his sexuality and predilections “are – respectfully – none of your f*cking business”.
