Dozens of police officers have been let go for accessing the Flock Safety license plate reader system for their own personal use.
Police officers in multiple Georgia jurisdictions have been fired or arrested for stalking citizens through the Flock system.
Some cities canceled their contracts with Flock as a result of widespread abuse of the Flock system.
The “Have I Been Flocked” website allows you to find out if someone accessed the system to search for your license plate.
The website addresses privacy concerns related to misuse of Flock by officers in Georgia, 11Alive reports.
“If your city is using Flock, you can search ‘Have I Been Flocked,’ and see what searches are being done,” Dunwoody, Georgia resident Jason Hunyar said.
“It’s the people’s information. It’s our open records,” he added.
Flock cameras use license plate readers to capture vehicle information on Georgia highways and streets. Flock can also use your cell phone to match you to your license plate. About 60,000 Flock cameras are installed across Georgia.
Residents in historic, majority Black Edgewood mapped nearly 500 Flock cameras in their neighborhood alone.
