Car influencer James Wehr’s estranged wife, Emma, has lawyered up after he died in a fiery car crash on Sunday morning, alongside a woman he’d just met.
Dashcam video shows James speeding in his $300,000 McLaren in Irvine, California, just after midnight on Sept. 13. The car skidded and zigzagged on wet pavement before jumping a curb and slamming into a tree.
The supercar split in two and burst into flames on impact with the tree. James, 27, and his female companion, Alexis “Lexi” Kramer, were killed instantly. James died just an hour after he was pulled over by police, TMZ reported.

James was founder of South OC Cars and Coffee, described as the world’s largest weekly car show.

TMZ reports that James’ wife Emma has retained a lawyer following her husband’s untimely death.
Attorney Corey Higgins said in an Instagram video that his firm is trying to determine why there was a significant amount of water on the roadway on a clear night.
The source of the water has not been identified, according to TMZ. Investigators are working to determine how the water got there, how long the roadway may have been wet and whether another party is responsible for the hazardous conditions.
Higgins, who represents Emma, also says his law firm is reviewing the McLaren’s safety record and history of crashworthiness, including how the vehicle performed during crash tests.
Higgins says his legal team is preserving evidence, reconstructing the crash and investigating every factor that may have contributed to James’ death.

Meanwhile, Lexi’s family claims that James allegedly told her he was in the process of getting divorced from Emma.
Lexi’s family launched a GoFundMe for donations to fly her body from California to Florida and to pay for funeral expenses.
A relative tells TMZ, Lexi’s body is still at the coroner’s office in California as the investigation into the accident continues.
TMZ claims James’ family has made “zero effort” to contact Lexi’s loved ones.
