A man who claimed to be a professional basketball player is accused of stealing a $90,000 BMW from a hotel valet in Savannah, Georgia.

Police say the suspect walked into the valet area of the Hyatt Regency Savannah around 12:30 a.m. on August 14. He took some belongings from a white 2025 Audi A5 parked in the valet. Then he handed a valet worker a ticket to a gray 2026 BMW S5.

The suspect explained that he was a professional basketball player with several cars parked in the valet. His story was convincing enough that a valet worker took the ticket and delivered the BMW to the suspect.

TMZ reports the suspect got into the BWM and drove off.

Valet workers later discovered the luxury BMW didn’t belong to the man. It was a dealership loaner vehicle for a hotel guest.

Police in Savannah say the white Audi was reported stolen the day before. Police found it unlocked in the hotel’s parking garage, TMZ reports.

Later, the dealership tracked the BMW all the way to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and recovered the stolen vehicle.

Police believe the same lanky suspect is responsible for another car theft at a Savannah hotel in August. Someone used a hotel guest’s retrieval code to request her Toyota C-HR from the valet.

It isn’t clear if the stolen Toyota was recovered.

The news is similar to the case of NFL impersonator Daejon Love, who is currently sitting in an Oregon jail without bond.

Love, 35, and his 18-year-old accomplice, Taylor Jamie Chan, were arrested on August 24, at the Boise (Idaho) Airport.

Love, who claimed to be a wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers, is accused of stealing $1.3 million from 26 desperate women in four states. Chan is accused of posing as his financial advisor.

Chan was released on bond last week. He is banned from using any online dating apps while out on bond.

Footage of Love’s proposed reality TV show is going viral on social media. The footage shows Love impersonating an NFL player while receiving perks from unsuspecting football fans.
