James DeBarge and his brother Jonathan “Chico” DeBarge were arrested on drug charges after a traffic stop in Burbank, California last month.

The brothers were arrested around 11 p.m. on Aug. 27, PEOPLE reports.

Police pulled the brothers over for “violations of the California Vehicle Code,” a law enforcement source confirms to PEOPLE.

According to NBC 4, James was driving a Chevy Tahoe that was towing a Nissan SUV with Chico inside.

Neither vehicle had license plates. Police discovered drugs during a search.

The source tells PEOPLE that James DeBarge was arrested on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance, while Chico was arrested on the same charge and on an outstanding warrant.

James, 63, is the ex-husband of Grammy-winning pop singer Janet Jackson, 60. He is a former member of the DeBarge singing group, whose hits include “I Like It”, “All This Love”, “Time Will Reveal”, “Love Me in a Special Way” and “Rhythm of the Night.”

Chico DeBarge, 60, was not a member of the DeBarge family group. He is best known for his Top 40 hit song “Talk to Me” off his 1986 self-titled debut album.

In 1997, Chico released his third album, Long Time No See, which spawned the hits “No Guarantee” ft. Joe, and “Iggin’ Me.”
