Jemele Hill went off on a paying subscriber who asked about her hair during a livestream. The incident happened during a recent episode of Jemele’s “Spolitics” podcast when a paying subscriber with the username @gregorycarradine56 asked her, “What’s up with your hair?? lol.”
Jemele, who wears a blonde wig, seemed annoyed by the question. She responded, “You, uh, @gregorycarradine56, you think ’cause you pay for a membership you get to just ask me about my hair? What you mean what’s up with it? What’s up wit’ your hair? Let’s talk about your hair.”
She added: “It’s a dumb a*s question. One day y’all gon’ learn.”

The reactions in the comments were mixed, but some X users took Gregory’s side.
One person wrote: “I hate white people but I want to look like one.”
Another person wrote: “Racist ignorant c******s in the comments who don’t know ethnically black people can have natural blonde hair.”
But others pointed out the wig is not Jemele’s “natural blonde hair” and she’s misappropriating Caucasian culture.

A third person commented: “Jamele is the type that would b***h about a non black person having dreads but her a*s got blonde hair. She is misappropriating Caucasian culture.”
A fourth person wrote: “It’s not a dumb question. Jamele Hill has repeatedly condemned white people when we supposedly appropriate other people’s culture. So, it is fair for us to condemn her when she tries to appropriate white culture.”
According to Essence magazine, some Black American women prefer blonde hair as a “form of self-expression, creativity and unapologetic confidence.”
Some Black women take pride in a thing that is traditionally considered specific to Caucasian women.
Black celebrities such as Ciara, Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, NeNe Leakes and Phaedra Parks, favor wearing blonde wigs and extensions.
