Trina Braxton’s husband Von Scales died Thursday, October 1, at age 58. A cause of death was not disclosed.

“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Von Scales, beloved husband of Trina Braxton,” the singer’s publicist David Robinson said in a statement to USA Today. “The family appreciates your thoughts and prayers but is asking for privacy at this time as they navigate this unfortunate event.”

Braxton, 51, and Scales met through mutual friends in 2019. Their December 2019 wedding was documented on her family’s reality shows, “Braxton Family Values” and “The Braxtons.”

“Von and I’s relationship is so different from my past relationships,” Braxton said on the show. “He just makes me feel real safe.”

Scales proposed to Braxton in front of reality TV cameras. “I love you with all that I have in a way I didn’t think possible,” he said.

In another episode, he praised Braxton for “all the things that you are.”

He added: “The businesswoman, the singer, the actress – all of that is great – but who you are inside and the kindness and understanding that you’ve shown to me, I want you to know that I really appreciate it.”

Braxton separated from her first husband, Gabriel Solis in 2013. They finalized their divorce in 2015. He died on December 20, 2018, of pancreatic cancer at age 43.
