Judge Mathis says Ashanti should hit Irv Gotti with a cease & desist for spilling intimate details about their relationship.

Ashanti and rapper Nelly started dating in 2003 and broke up in 2014. Irv, who dated Ashanti in the early 2000s, found out that she was cheating on him with Nelly while they were still together.

Rob Rich/WENN

Irv said he was heartbroken because he was "in love" with the beautiful R&B singer.

At the time, Irv was still married to his then-wife.

Irv shared intimate details about his extramarital affair with Ashanti during a recent "Drink Champs" episode.

He even said he was inspired to write Ashanti's 2002 single "Happy" after they finished sleeping together.

Judge Mathis is among those who believe Irv was out of line. Mathis bumped into TMZ while out & about in NYC Monday. He told TMZ's cameraman he'd advise Ashanti to send Irv a cease & desist or even go to court for a gag order to shut him up.

Mathis said even if Irv's claims are valid, he should stop putting Ashanti's business in the streets. On the other hand, if Ashanti feels she's being slandered, she should do something to stop it legally.

If anyone knows about using the courts to shut Irv up, it's Judge Mathis.

Ashanti hasn't reacted publicly to the drama yet. But she did join her old flame Nelly onstage on Friday, Aug. 5, for a playful rendition of their 2008 song "Body On Me."

Ashanti says she's planning to take a break from music to have her own children. "I'm definitely planning on chilling soon and experiencing that," she tells PEOPLE magazine.

The 41-year-old R&B singer recently published her first children's picture book titled My Name Is a Story.

She stopped by "Good Morning America" on Wednesday to promote her book. She wore a colorful Dolce & Gabbana romper for her appearance.

Rapper Ja Rule (right) also stopped by "Good Morning America" on Wednesday.

Ashanti appeared at Essence Music Festival last weekend where she signed autographed copies of her book.

Ashanti said she wrote the book after meeting fans who also grew up with "unique" names. She said she was constantly questioned about the spelling of her name.

"The stories were like, 'I'm so glad that you're doing this because I always felt embarrassed when it was time for the teacher to call out everyone's name and she would stutter on my name,'" Ashanti tells PEOPLE. "I didn't want them to feel like that."

The character in her book celebrates her unique name and the history behind it.

The Grammy-winning singer says Ashanti means "woman of strength."

The voluptuous singer plans to put her career on the shelf to finally have children of her own. The "Mesmerize" singer owns her masters and can afford to raise children as a single mom.

Ashanti says her kids will be loving and open minded with a great sense of humor.

"I want my kids to have such an open mind. I want my kids to embrace everyone and be strong and be brave, and be loving and be giving," she says. "I think my kids are going to be awesome. I think everyone's going to love my kids. They're going to be funny... They're going to be good [and] extremely well-mannered."

Ashanti announced last year she is re-recording her first studio LP to own her masters. She claims music executive, Irv Gotti is taking exception to her independent move and he's trying to screw her out of her masters.

"I own the masters. And. I Produced all those great Ashanti Albums," Gotti wrote on Instagram. "So I also own a good portion of the Publishing,"

He continued: "She can do this under the COVER laws. But she is basically trying to f### me out of my Masters."

Meanwhile, singer Trey Songz, 37, is facing a $5 million settlement for groping a girl's breasts at a 2013 party. The girl, Megan Johnson, was underage at the time, which presents a new level of legal problems for the promiscuous singer.

The lawsuit claims Trey "sexually assaulted and battered Ms. Johnson with a reckless disregard for her safety." The incident occurred at a party held at the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, CT.

Ashanti dismissed rumors that she and rapper Flo Rida are in a longterm relationship.

"Let the people know Ashanti is not with Flo Rida," she told The Breakfast Club. "Be clear! That's my brother. Me and Flo are super cool... We've been going to each other's birthday parties for like, ten years. So, I don't know why it's like, such a surprise."

She continued:

"You know what it is. I got a group of girls I like to vacay with in my family. Flo got his crew in his family. We've been going to each other's birthday parties for like 10 years. So, I don't know why it's such a surprise now... No, first of all it's [the vacations] are not always together. But, it's just he's a good vibe and our teams are good together. He just likes to have fun with family and celebrate. I promise you, it has never been anything remotely close to that [a romantic relationship]."

The R&B singer is catching heat online for dating the deadbeat rapper, real name Tramar Dillard, who fathered at least four children with as many women.

The 41-year-old "Foolish" singer doesn't acknowledge questions about Zohar or any of the "My House" rapper's children on social media.

Flo Rida refuses to see his 5-year-old disabled son, Zohar Dillard, who lives in New York City with his mom Alexis Adams.

Alexis Adams

Flo Rida saw Zohar once in 2017 when he showed up to provide a DNA sample for a court-order paternity test.

Zohar was kicked out of a private school in NYC for unpaid tuition of $80,000. Adams, who receives temporary child support from Flo Rida, is forced to pay tuition and medical expenses out of her own pocket.

Adams has been battling Dillard in family court for 5 years now.

Lil Mo, pictured right with Ashanti, called out rapper Fat Joe for referring to her and rapper/actress Vita as "dusty bitches".

Lil Mo slammed Fat Joe for referring to her as a "dusty bitch crackhead" during his "Verzuz" battle with fellow rapper Ja Rule on Tuesday. She said the "Lean Back" rapper was disrespectful and totally insensitive to all people battling addiction.

Fat Joe, 51, came under fire for dissing Lil Mo and LaVita Raynor, aka Vita, after gifting Ashanti and Remy Ma with Hermès handbags.

He said Ja Rule must have found Mo and Vita in a "crack house."

Johnny Nunez/WireImage

Lil Mo, pictured right performing with Vita and Ja Rule, tells TMZ that Fat Joe's comments were "vile" and "disrespectful." She said he should know better than to use those degrading terms about substance abusers, especially in light of recent drug deaths, like Michael K. Williams.

In fact, Lil Mo says Joe's disses were actually triggering to her, because -- even though she's clean now -- she's dealt with her own opioid addiction issues in the past.

Johnny Nunez/WireImage

Fat Joe, pictured with Ashanti, apologized publicly to Lil Mo and Vita. He also says he told Lil Mo and Vita sorry to their faces in private.

Lil Mo said he shouldn't be let off the hook that easily. However, she was quick to say she doesn't want Fat Joe canceled.

Keyshia Cole's sister dragged her for making Ashanti wait an hour for their long-awaited Verzuz battle on Instagram Thursday night.

The lip-sync battle was canceled twice -- the first time because Ashanti tested positive for the Covid-19 virus.

Keyshia brought out a surprise guest while lip-syncing to her 2005 hit song "Love." OT Genasis recored a parody track of "Love," titled "Never Knew," an ode to the Crips street gang.

Keyshia was not happy with the disrespect. Some shade was thrown after OT said nasty things about Keyshia's mother's drug addiction.

But it was all love when Keyshia brought the rapper out on Thursday.

One person who wasn't thrilled about the friendly duet was Keyshia's sister, Elite Noel, who expressed her displeasure on Instagram.

She captioned the video, "It went left !!!! And it ain't funny !!!!! I'm not backing down, who want it?"

Ashanti turns 40 today. The curvy singer celebrated her birthday with friends in Antigua and Barbuda.

"Reflecting on the blessings," Ashanti captioned a post that shows her relaxing on a yacht in an emerald sea.

Ashanti was born Ashanti Shequoiya Douglas on October 13, 1980 in Glen Cove, New York. Her mother was a dance teacher and her father was a former singer.

WENN

Ashanti's mother, Tina Douglas (pictured), discovered her full singing potential when she overheard Ashanti singing Mary J. Blige's "Reminisce" at age 12.

WENN/McCauley

As a teenager, Ashanti wrote songs and performed in local talent shows. She got a small break as a child extra in Spike Lee's Malcolm X (1992) and in Ted Demme's Who's the Man?.

But her first love was music. Ashanti began performing around the city and she eventually came to the attention of Bad Boy Records, Jive and Murder Inc., where she was noticed by Murder Inc. CEO and co-founder Irv Gotti.

Gotti asked her to write hooks for his label artists and to perform with them in duets.

Her duets on Fat Joe's "What's Luv?" and Ja Rule's "Always on Time" helped launch the songs up the charts, becoming two of the biggest hit songs of 2002.

Ashanti became the first female artist to occupy the top two positions on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 singles chart at the same time.

Following the success of her collaborations with Ja Rule and Fat Joe, Ashanti released her debut single, "Foolish", which contains a sample of the 1983 song "Stay with Me" by DeBarge.

Ashanti's self-titled debut album, Ashanti, was released on Murder Inc. in April 2002 and debuted at No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard 200 albums chart. The album was certified triple platinum in the United States and sold six million copies worldwide.

The album was a fan favorite, earning 8 Billboard Music Awards, 2 American Music Awards, and a Grammy Award in 2003 for Best Contemporary R&B Album.

In July 2003, Ashanti's sophomore album, Chapter II, also debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, with first-week sales of 326,000 copies. Chapter II went platinum, selling over 1.5 million copies.

In 2004, Ashanti began dating rapper Nelly and considered settling down to raise a family.

Ashanti and Nelly were the Beyonce and Jay-Z of their time. Fans couldn't get enough of the sexy couple. One fan made a scrap book filled with pictures of the hip-hop royal couple.

Nelly and Ashanti ended their long-term relationship in 2014 after dating 10 years. Their union produced no children and Ashanti told friends she regretted not tying the knot with the St. Louis rapper, now 45.

There were many rumors of cheating by both Ashanti and Nelly during their decade together. After the breakup, Ashanti earned a scandalous reputation as a home-wrecker.

Ashanti has been linked to Chink Santana (who was dating Keyshia Cole at the time); NFL player Darnell Dockett (who was married at the time), NBA star James Harden, comedian Michael Blackson, rapper Joyner Lucas, and more.
