Angel Laws, owner of popular urban gossip site Concrete Loop took a spin down the red carpet at RADAR magazine’s ‘New Radicals Gala’ event in NY on Tuesday night. I love Angel’s confidence. I just have issue with journalist or bloggers injecting themselves into the news they cover. I wouldn’t do it. I feel that my place is behind the scenes bringing the news to my readers. By walking the red carpet, Angel puts herself in the same company as Perez Hilton and Jamie Foster Brown who regularly make themselves a part of the news they cover.
I just graduated with my bachelors in journalism and times have changed. Barbara Walters has done this for years. Sandra, don’t you inject yourself in the news you cover by broadcasting your connections to Tiny, Monica, etc?? And by having a prefrence for some celebs and not others? We all know what you look like and know you go out to the events. I think it makes news more personable as well as helping people open up in interviews. Leave that girl alone. She is young and getting her’s
please if u could u would
@ Windychick:
You miss the point entirely. I am talking about putting yourself on the same plane as the celebs you cover. I hardly consider myself to be a celebrity and I don’t seek the limelight. If a celebrity calls me I can’t ignore that fact. That’s different from me walking red carpets and partying with celebrities. You lose your focus and it’s hard to be objective when you make yourself a celebrity like Perez Hilton.
I have to say that I agree with Captpmo. And I would also add that once bloggers “inject themselves” in the news they cover the upside is that they become accountable to for errors and misteps (intentional and unintentional).
Behind the scenes to me implies a cowardice that is never truly checked until libel laws finally catch up to the internet and Celebs start to secure major courtroom wins -the same wins they have historically secured against US Weekly, Star et al.
Wow! Am I detecting a bit of envy with this post? Kind of reminds me of the story of Cinderella and the wicked, evil step-sisters (which one are you , Sandra?)
That being said, I think it’s unfair for you to be so quick to judge Angel’s credibility as a journalist/blog owner simply because she attended this event. She wasn’t trying to brush elbows with celebs or get her picture taken for selflish promotion. She was chosen and featured in RADAR magazine along with other up and coming popular bloggers and they invited her to their party to celebrate their success. What you accuse Angel and Jamie Foster Brown of doing isn’t any worse than what syndicated gossip news programs like Entertainment Tonight have been doing for decades. And for you to even compare either of them to Perez is just plain insulting. I guarantee you won’t find any hand drawen penises or simulated body fluids oozing from crotches on Angel’s site.
SandraRose + hating = DOWNGRADE
HAHAHA!!!!!!!!!
Girl Sandra, you HOLDS NOTHING BACK!!!! I LOVE YOU FOR THAT.
I’ve been waiting for somebody to put this big ole black bitch on blast. She is sooooooooo fucking ugly. Although this is the best I’ve ever seen her look. God her ugliness annoys the shit of me. I know it’s mean, but it’s true. With her and Brian kiss ass selves.
I hate Concrete Loop! The don’t NEVER have any inside information or gossip. They just post up fucking pictures and music. That’s IT!!!
#5 shhhh
So you’ve never read any of the exclusive interviews on CL? Oh well, they must have blown right past you. And please remember Angel & staff have accomplished all this on a PART-TIME basis. Imagine what they would do if they devoted 100% to this. After all, she’s got celebs reading her blog and shouting her site out in songs/interviews. It’s obvious they must be doing something right, lol.
I agree with Sandra one hundred per cent. When you are a professional, you take your job seriously. That’s why the News Media in a lot of cases are not taken seriously.
thank u Sandra, i can’t stand that big ugly tramp
she lookin like a broke down whoopi goldberg wanna be
And what’s wrong with walking down the Red Carpet again? Obviously she has a fan base that would love to see who is the brains behind her site! Just like I am sure you have a fan base that would love to see you walk the red carpet. Is it wrong for Barbara Walters, Mat Lauher, Tavis Smiley, or Larry King to walk the red carpet? They too are celebrity figures who have amassed a huge fan base. Jamie Foster does an excellent job and her peers have recognized her celebrity status so why shouldn’t she reap the benefits of her success?
A side note…I laughed my ass off when I read that Jimmi Flixx was bounced out on his annoying ass the other day. Did you get the photo of that because I want a copy of it!
I get what you saying Sandra.forget the haters.
Tell em Sandra
>>Sandra Rose Says:
“…You lose your focus and it’s hard to be objective when you make yourself a celebrity like Perez Hilton.”
Umm, not for nothing Sandra, but you have to be one of the least objective bloggers in the ‘sphere. If you say you don’t seek the limelight, that’s one thing. But I certainly don’t think one needs to seek the limelight to lose their objectivity, and I think you exemplify that. It’s ok to be subjective, that’s why ppl have blogs, so they can express *their* opinions in a medium that *they* control. Whether we respect Angels (and Perez Hilton’s, for that matter) hustle or not is irrelevant. At the end of the day it’s the same hustle, they just going about it differently than you are…
Finally, I am glad that I was able to get a password. Hey guys, this is 2thick4u.
I like to see the person who is talking everyday shit about people…let me see how you looking:)!!!
Sandra, you sound bitter
i hope the news in this isn’t that she walked the red carpet?..were you not invited to the ‘new radicals gala’?
You lose your focus and it’s hard to be objective when you make yourself a celebrity like Perez Hilton.
I agree. Once you put yourself out there, you become one of the ‘talked about’. I also think that you have more of a chance of losing your ‘objective’ glance when interviewing or talking about celebs. Basically what you’ve just said.
Ohmigod!!! you guys could go for sisters. I agree, the ugly must always stay behind the scenes.
so because she does CL she’s not supposed to go to any functions? I think that’s kind of stupid…
Ok, ok I hear ya Sandra. But I don’t look at Perez as a journalist… copying and pasting off of the AP newswire and talking about people looks, etc is not a journalist… its his time to shine but believe me it will run his course.
@ shhhh- wow. I so wish we would uplift each other. Everyone cannot be beautiful. Ok she doesn’t have exclusives, so what. She’s just trying to do her… did u date her or something?? lol
umm could her attendance also have something to do with the fact that she was featured in one of the recent issues as a New Radical??? Sandra Rose you know you’re just being a grinch with this here post, she’s not injecting herself, she’s being honored and accepted the invitation.
It’s funny you say lose focus and lack objectivity, because you’re so unfocused (unless it’s the triumvirate Monica, Tiny and random hooker/stripper/video ho type) and you lack objectivity when it comes to Beyonce at least.
Kudos to Angel wouldv’e sufficed.
Yeah Sandra your right cant argue with ya on this!!! Love the site by the way keep up the good work!!!
Shhhhhh, that’s really cold.
You only live once, so when given the opportunity to get out and shine why not!…
People please stop jumping on the bandwagon and find out facts for yourself!!! This is your brain on drugs…
*THE REAL REASON WHY ANGEL WAS WALKING DOWN THE RED CARPET*
Black bloggers have a lot to be thankful for these days. Major media outlets are taking notice of the power and influence of Black Blogdom.
According to Concreteloop.com, the latest edition of Radar Magazine will feature the “new radicals” of the Black blogsphere, which include Jam Donaldson, 34 (hotghettomess.com), Rod McCollom, 36 (rod20.com), Eskay, 26 (nahright.com), Angel Laws, 23 (concreteloop.com).
***SEEK TRUTH AND YOU SHALL FIND…Come into the LIGHT***
Girl you are the Epitome of a hater. You talk yourself up sooo much…one would think that you were sitting on TI’s orange couch getting the news from him directly.
Why you gotta hate? I mean really? Now you hating on regular people? SM(effin) head
AND I could see why someone from CL would be honored! They have music REVIEWS…Real interviews and post pictures without back biting, petty, insipid comments…you should try that…
I don’t have a problem with bloggers gaining fame and becoming celebs themselves. To each his own. I’m happy for Perez for becoming a celeb. Bloggers are not objective anyway, so why should they shun the spotlight to pretend they are holding on to objectivity?
Is there any particular reason why you have not accepted my posts? Correct me if I am wrong…Isn’t journalism suppose be objective and without bias? Well you are displaying more then enough bias to start an all out boycott of blogs like yours and for yours truly to write about them.
Pt yourself on a celebrity plane and see how your stock value will jump. Take it from someone who knows and who’s stock has risen to new heights!!
Ooops put yourself on a celebrity plane and stop hating on those who are doing similar to what you do…the just want to be recognized for their efforts.
Want to see real journalism? Get a copy of the next edition of Hip Hop Weekly Magazine! Sandra Rose…we are waiting on you to join our team and GET PAID for what you do so well. We would just have to fine tune a few things but your sure to get an award for all your great “scoops” See you at the top!!!
You have got to be kidding me!! You are so biased youself. All you do is toof TI’s horn but yet you hate on Beyonce and R kelly. You are so not non biased. Everyday all I can count on you hating on Beyonce. You are funny to me.
I am curious too why my comments aren’t being accepted.
I think what you are doing is wrong. Angel is the one that inspired this black blog movement. You’ve followed suit and have equally benefited on the bottom feeding internet blogging. She’s raised the stakes and forcing many to change the game.
You can’t have it both ways. There are inherent rules to rules blogging. When you talk about others and distort truths–you make people want to know whose talking. Being known is apart of the checks and balance. There must always be accountability on some level. You can’t insite outrage or questions and then hide your hand (or face).
When libel laws catch up to the internet you better hope black folks don;’t start to get smart and take it to court. But there;s God’s law too. Its wrong on a real basic level to constantly spew negitivity. it makes me wonder how fruitful your life is really-after all the checks are cashed.
But whatever.
just remember you will have to answer to one or the other: God’s law or Man’s law. Its up to you.
Sandra stay talking bout people! Lord!!
Cant knock the hustle!

~~~~~~~~~~
Gett outta my brain! This was said perfectly!
Wow Sandra it appears that you picked up some haters when you launched your new site. People are so busy commenting on your comments that they failed to mention that hideous gold dress.
Nevermind her being there, she has a right to be there seeing as how she was featured in their magazine recently.
The thing that is mind boggling to me is that she chose to wear something that was not flattering to her figure, and do not get me wrong she is a beautiful girl, but that outfit was clearly for someone who is smaller.
When did bloggers become journalist? When did bloggers become credible? It’s just entertainment!LOL
Sandra, is there a way to change your password?
I am not to sure I agree on this one. It seems like a typical awards ceremony honoring people for their work. I would not classify her work as radical, but her site is successful, and there is honor it that. I don’t know much about this event, but it doesn’t seem like a celebrity event.
Sandra, you become part of the news in many of your stories. Whenever, you take a story and add your personal twist to it, you are guilty of the same thing. Think about your coverage of Jay-Z’s “alledged” child. You were ALL in that piece!LOL
Actually if my memory serves me correctly…it was Sandra’s “scoop” that broke the story of Jay Z’s baby mama sending firestorm of news reports around the country. I am sure a lot of you would like to take credit for that one but she really did her homework on that piece. My only suggested do difference is to try and be more objective in your reporting. All of us know that’s Jigga’s little boy! Money talks and bullsh*t walks I always say.
I think it depends on what you want to do with your life. If you want to be a behind the scenes person, ok, fine – but if you want to ultimately come from behind the scenes (Perez), that’s fine too. Celeb gossip blogging may just be a step in getting you where you want to be. Just like actors – some enjoy the parties, and some just want to shoot their movie and go home.
I will agree that putting yourself out there (Jamie) makes it harder for you to say negative things about celebs. Well, Wendy Williams does it.
And please, let’s not call Angel beautiful. She’s a woman with confidence. Period.
I don’t know Sandra I think different people have different work tactics. It may be harder for you to continue to focus by being in the limelight, but that’s not the case for everyone else. Angel actually met a lot of people and made connections, so for her it was the right move.
^^ You mean, all want to believe.
No #7, I don’t go to their site to hear their “interviews” I don’t give a damn about that kind of stuff. I frankly don’t want to hear no “celeb” sitting saying what sound goods.
@…….
I guess you see yourself Angel and took offense to what I said. I feel you girl. To answer your question: so much better than your tired ass that it’s not even worth proving. If you ever in my neck of the woods, I’ll take you to the gym with me. :)))
“You lose your focus and it’s hard to be objective””
You? Objective? LMBAO!!!
LOL @ Dimples and co-sign w/Bird.
Sandra tends to speak her mind whether we agree with her or not. CL takes a younger/safer approach with celebrity news, which can be sedating at times.
Variety keeps things interesting.
I tend to check out Sandra’s site first before CL anyday- cause I can expect she’ll be talking *%$& (her opinion) about somebody. Makes the workday go faster.
Sandra, keep up the good work!!
That’s the truth, celebs are forever mentioning them in their interviews, I’m proud of them, as well as Sandra and Fresh.
CL is a great site! Different people prefer to report the news in different ways. If you want to be a snake in the grass thats up to you. If you aren’t afraid to stand by your opinions, why not celebrate your accomplishments. She was in their magazine and honored at the event! Go Angel!
Sandra aren’t you the same one that wanted to be the next “Perez Hilton”. Just a thought
So what if Angel wants to be spotlight? That’s her business. I agree with what the other chick said…not everyone is going to be a snake in the grass like you Sandra.
Why is that girl wearing a kisses candy wrapper anyways?
It’a no brainerthat Concreteloop is the best Black blog on the Web & Angel and her team work extra, extra hard to get where they are.
The are only in their early 20s doing stuff older folks can’t even fathom. Ofcourse Angie had to be there, she was afterall being honored for her hard work, hustle and she’s most definitely making power moves & she’s getting up there where hard working people do.
I don’t know much about women dress tastes and all but I think she’s dressed appropriately.
I think it took alot of guts for Angel to show herself..i’m proud of most of the black bloggers out here..concreteloop was the first site i got started on and they do a good job..she deserves the red carpet
I have to agree with coquette, she said it perfectly. I love you Sandra, but I think it’s worth the risk to put yourself out there with the celebs. 10 years ago we never would have thought that blogging would be a job, but hey here we are. Who knows what publicity, etc. will be gained from a red carpet or two.
Congrats to Angela!!! I rather see her and not Perezhilton, he is nasty and he kisses up to them white girls and tries to hard to hang out with them. At least she is a young black woman getting her thing together, she is not out shaking her ass or actin a fool.
I finally registered. I just noticed there aren’t any gravatars anymore.
Sandra I usually never, ever agree with you, but I 100%ly agree with you on this one. A fine example is Perez Hilton, he will NEVER write anything bad about Paris Hilton, who he modeled himself after.Paris got locked up, pictures of her crying when she had to go back to jail…no coverage from Perez.
Jamie Foster Brown is so busy trying to be everybodies Aunt Jamie that she doesn’t ask the real questions. Her interviews go on for 10 pages!!! Yall know it does with no real juice. Sometimes she lucked up with an exclusive, but for the most part kiss butt interviews. People can’t stand Wendy Williams because she’s not going to do a kiss butt interview.
Now Angel going to this event, nothing wrong with that more power to her, but when you thrust yourself out there like Perez and Jamie do, you have to wonder how objective can this blogger or “reporter” be?
You know what Sandra, the thing about it is, many bloggers aren’t journalist because in journalism you’re reporting the story, not trying to be the story. Anyone can blog, but not everyone can be a journalist.
Yes I think that she was an honoree at this event makes her appearance distinct from someone who was simply trhying to inject herself into a celebrity event while not being a celebrity herself. As far as the objectivity question, blogs are by definition subjective and bloggers are not ournalists in the traditional sense. Its good to see a young black woman achieving success in the new media.
No, I didn’t see myself in Angel. I’m merely stating the obvious but I see you’re not the one to be played with, cause you’re a bad internet bitch, right? *rolls eyes*
And I’d gladly run with you anyday. Just make sure you bring an extra bulletproof vest and an ebonics translator so I can effectively communicate on your level. We wouldn’t want a simple misunderstanding to derail such an important relationship now would we?
Umm Kmniles, I wasn’t even talking to you on my second portion of my comment. As far as ebonics and all that other nonsense you were talking. Can we say 3.2 and a year and half left. =)
Shes hideous
WOW!!!!!!!!!! I don’t get it, but it’s sad! I really try to look at the pix and not read your comments!
no comment
@ 57:
We’re working on the gravatars.
Sandra Rose is no different from Angel. Angel injected herself visually and Sandra injects herself verbally. Different methods same outcome. Bring the news to the reader and then disappear! You toe the line when you continously “inject” yourself in the comments trying to justify and/or force feed your point of view.
Now, I will likely get allot of FLACK for saying this BUT, i do agree with Sandra. Ironically i was just wondering the other day, what does she actually look like? I visit the website allot, along with Bossip, Concreteloop, ********* and PerezHilton. The first 15 minutes at work in the morning are usually dedicated to my celebrity news….ANYWAY…
Why i agree with Sandra is because i check out Angel’s site often and i have seen her more than once including herself or other people in her staff in the stories she writes. Now its understandable when you have been invite to be a part of something BUT when you are just seeking 15 minutes of fame, its another thing.
BIGUPS to Angel for having a sucsessful website considering its only 2 years old or so….BUT (this is where i will get the flack) She is not a pretty girl and that outfit is not flattering to her body at all. For someone who does the “Whats Hot and What’s Not” on her website she should have known better, there is no excuse for looking like that in public. As for her looks, the bad makeup and the horrible wig make her look older than her age…I donno, This is a horrible picture of her, if your gonna wanna be in the limelight, give us something nice to look at, thats all i am saying….Sorry if i have offended anyone BUT just being honest!
First, let me say, I am not mocking anyone. But, we seem to live in a world where the majority of people would rather be seen and not heard.
Wow I didn’t know that people didn’t know what Angel, Tianna, or Brian looked like. When you go to concreteloop, on your right and less then a 1/4 of a way down the page there is a link that says get to know Angel, Tianna & Brian. They change their pics up regularly but they have always been on there since the new layout and their gravators were of their pics before the new layout.
I couldn’t put my finger on it but now I know what sets Angel apart from more than 80% of celeb women who stay in the limelight. Angel if you are reading this; you are to natural to be in the limelight. 80% of celeb women who stay in the limelight know that in order to keep peoples tongues wagging, you may need to invest in a silky weave, get liposuction, maybe thin your nose out, add some fake breasts, a fake a$$ or butt implants, and then start to dress skankier, then you will fit right in. I’m thinking the key is you need more fakiness and you may need to be a little harsher and put people down, you know step on them if you want to get to the top, they’ll still have fans and you’ll have a bigger fan base. See how easy that works out for everyone? *rolls eyes*
