Here’s Matthew Knowles‘ response to Aretha Franklin who felt slighted (or unloved) because Beyonce introduced Tina Turner as “the queen” during their Grammy duet:
“I’m not even going to take this to [Beyonce]. Something this ridiculous, it’s childish, it’s unprofessional. And it’s a sad day when egos get bruised because somebody used the word king, queen, prince or princess.”
I so agree.
LMAO wow… It wouldve been best if no one would have commented from the get go. Sometimes its just better to drink some prune juice and let the sh%t go!
I AGREE WITH MATTHEW
Usually, Matthew Knowles and any other member of the Knowles family turn my stomach whenever they open their mouths BUT I think he’s right on with this one. Sure he could have said nothing and let it go. But that’s the reason why the situation got out of hand in the first place. The Queen of Soul Food is used to people taking cover when she’s mad, pissed off or offended. Good for them! You don’t have to say EVERYTHING that’s on your mind. I bet she’s somewhere feeling pretty silly right about now…
I doubt she’s feeling silly, probably hungry, but not silly. She’s probably on the phone right now with her publicist/chef asking him to finish that damn crepe & do some damage control!!!!
PS Matthew was right….
Jgats Im gonna hurt you(lmao) I do however agree with Daddy Knowles everyone want to be considered King,Queen,Princess & all that to me it’s crazy!! it was Tina’s time to shine so why not consider her the queen for the moment, had it been Aretha up there doing her thing Im sure Beyonce would have said the same thing about her, she truly need 2 sit her ass down, nobody is ever gonna forget who Aretha is trust me everytime we see her in all those bold colors & furs she reminds us(lol)
mattie is right but beyonce needs to respect her elders in the future. old people take that ish seriously. reminds me of when i get the title of some church person wrong.
@ j Gats juice
Publicist/chef?

Hell from the looks of it, she either fired him or ate’em. Or both, put fire to his ass and ate’em.
ok, is he saying beyonce doesn’t even know, they are such fakers, how in the hell she don’t know ,i mean i get his response, but he’s doing the same thing if you know it is silly then you are just as silly for responding especially knowing how the media exaggerates things, he’s no better in my opinion and anyway beyonce knows!
‘Retha needs to just keep her “mouf” shut. I know it’s hard but trust, it will help out in the long run. Literally.
Say what you will about Matthew, but that is a MAN right there. Beyonce’s daddy got her back thru any and everything and he will speak his mind when necessary. But always as a MAN.
I don’t think that Aretha Franklin should’ve dignified the slight she felt with a response, but I do think that she and many others were kind of dissed even if it wasn’t meant to be that way.
Beyonce mentioned all these black female entertainers then proceeds to say that Tina Turner is the ONLY person who embodies ALL of the best qualities of all these women who have all made a mark on the industry in their own way. I mean COME ON…how fair is that? Tina Turner has had a remarkable career that spanned decades, but so have they. Aretha, Diana, Tina, Gladys, Mahalia and so many more all brought something unique to the table and all cemented their respective places in history.
In my personal opinion, neither Aretha or Tina should be called “the Queen”. They are both Queens of what they do but neither one is “THE QUEEN” of rhythym, blues or soul music…
Oh, and the Knowles family shouldn’t be responding…period.
The routine that was performed was produced by whomever produces the Grammy telecast so how can Beyonce even be blamed…chick was just reciting her lines from a script…Matthew responding just makes her seem guilty of something and fully responsible for the routine…
PAPA, KNOWLES, I AGREE! Ms. Aretha cannot be mad because Beyonce’s camp had every right to respond. The End!
Alright yall gonna stop talking about Aunt Ree Ree’s eating habits dagnabit. And how you gonna call her the Queen of Soul Food when there is no evidence she can cook? That’s my title and maybe Miss Patti. Anywho, she has announced that she is on the Jenny Craig diet so yall better recognize!
hehehehe
Yanaja Says:

**********************************************************
Thats what I was thinking too…why even respond to such a ignorant and childish comment.
I’m glad Daddy Matt responded because I was bored as hell at work and praying there was something new posted.
If what they are saying here in Va on the radio is true,
MJB should be the saying some shit. The here is that Ms. Aretha had MJB canceled from the performance. Just what I heard , dont know if it true.
LMAO@the Queen of Soul Food…ya’ll are just wrong for these comments, but it’s hilarious. I agree with the masses though, get over titles people. Everyone knows who Aretha and Tina is and where their respective places in da biz. Can’t we just be happy for one another when someone besides ourselves get a moment to shine?
LMAO!!!!!!! J Gats why you gotta call her hungry tho???!!? lol

I totally agree. He won’t have to take it to Beyonce anyway, it’s only all over the internet on every gossip site.
Franklin Slams Beyonce Grammy Intro
LOS ANGELES (AP) — When Aretha Franklin is unhappy, she does not mince words. On Tuesday, the longtime Queen of Soul slammed Beyonce Knowles’ intro to Tina Turner at Sunday’s Grammy Awards, in which Knowles called Turner, not Franklin, “the queen.”
“I am not sure of whose toes I may have stepped on or whose ego I may have bruised between the Grammy writers and Beyonce,” Franklin said in a statement issued by her publicist. “However, I dismissed it as a cheap shot for controversy.”
E-mails to Knowles’ publicist Yvette Noel-Schure and calls and e-mails to Recording Academy spokeswomen Jaime Sarachit and Barb Deghan were not immediately returned.
In the first few seconds of Knowles’ intro to Turner’s performance, she name-dropped Franklin and a long list of famed female singers. Then the “Crazy in Love” chanteuse focused on Turner.
“There is one legend who has the essence of all of those things: the glamour, the soul, the passion, the strength, the talent,” said Knowles, strutting in hot pants. “Ladies and gentlemen. Stand on your feet and give it up for the queen.”
At a party later that night, Knowles called Turner her “ultimate icon.”
Still, Franklin ended her brief criticism on a gracious note, thanking the Grammys and the voting academy and saying, “love to Beyonce anyway.”
Known for such hits as “Respect” and “Chain of Fools,” Franklin tied with the Clark Sisters for best gospel performance trophy for her duet “Never Gonna Break My Faith” with Mary J. Blige.
THIS IS THE FIRST REPORT OF THE EVENT. AS YOU SEE THEY WERE TRYING TO GET A STATEMENT FROM HER PUBLICIST, HER MANAGER GAVE ONE.
Beyonce knows about it and I don’t think she meant it as a diss..Aretha looks to be very insecure at this point..maybe it’s the weight I don’t know..but the one thing she could always hold onto was being known as the queen of soul..take that away and she may not feel she has anything else..even though she is an icon to many..she may not FEEL that way about herself..who knows..just speculating with a different point of view
For once he actually said something intelligent and I agree with him. Hell my name means Queen, do you see me getting all bent out of shape. NO!!
And Sandra that dag on word press thingie that we have to go through to reset passwords is a headache!!!
He is so right! it’s nonsense! Ms Franklin needs to humble herself. she is gettin ridiculous.
Auntie just gets like that when her stomach starts to rumble. She’ll be cool after some chickens. Sounds as if Beyonce had a lot going on in her world that night. I’m just simply making an observation.
THAT WAS VERY DISRESPECTFUL FOR A MAN TO STOOP THIS LOW
HOW HE GONNA SUGGEST THAT ARETHA FRANKLIN IS CHILDISH, RIDICULOUS, AND UNPROFESSIONAL?????
ARETHA ONLY SAID THAT SHE FELT SLIGHTED AND THIS IS HER RIGHT TO FEEL THIS WAY.
IF BEYONCE DIDNT INTEND TO OFFEND MS. FRANKLIN, MATHEW SHOULD HAVE JUST SUGGESTED THAT BEYONCE TAKE THE HIGHER ROUTE AND APOLOGIZE IF SHE OFFENDED ARETHA.
HIS RESPONSE WAS FAR MORE INSULTING TO MS FRANKLIN THAN ANYTHING BEYONCE DID ON GRAMMY NIGHT
SO RI RI SHOULDNT FEEL TOO BAD CUZ THE APPLE DONT FALL FAR FROM THE TREE
THE KNOWLES DONT WANT NOBODY TO DARE SAY NOTHING BAD ABOUT BEYONCE OR OBJECT TO ANYTHING THAT SHE DOES AND IF THEY DO, NO MATTER WHO THEY ARE, EVEN IF THEY ARE A QUEEN, THEY WILL FEEL JUSTIFIED TO LASH BACK WITH MORE INSULTS
MATHEWS RESPONSE ONLY PROVED THE LEGITIMACY OF ARETHA’S ORIGINAL COMMENT
THEY JUST NEED TO KEEP QUIET AT THIS POINT
THAT WHOLE FAMILY LOOK RICH AND IGNORANT
ON SECOND THOUGHT, SANDRA WHERE EXACTLY DID MATHEW SAY THIS?
IM WAITING FOR THIS RESPONSE
J Gats—YUH ARE SO WRONG FI DAT!!!…LOLOL….IN ALL HONESTY I DO THINK SHE IS FEELING BAD ABOUT HARSELF…SHE PROBABLY SAW HARSELF IN THAT LEMON/LIME FIT SHE ROCKED B4 AND SAW PEOPLE’S COMMENTS ABOUT HOW BAD AND LEMONY SHE LOOKED AND HOW GOOD PEOPLE THOUGHT TINA LOOKED AND THEN BEYONCE CALLED TINA THE QUEEN AND AUNT RI LOST IT FOR A MINUTE….I DON’T THINK BEYONCE MEANT IT THE WAY SHE TOOK IT…I’M SORRY BUT I THINK HAR FADDA SHOULD NOT AV HANDLED THIS…HE SHOULD AV LET BEYONCE TAKE CARE OF THIS…HE’S ALWAYS TRYING TO MIX UP IN SOME MESS…
Oh Sandra you didn’t get all of it. I love the part where he says “She didn’t say Queen of soul, Queen of gospel, Queen of England! She just said QUEEN!” Matthew will always support his little girl. All this black on black crap. I hope Tina Turner and Aretha are not foes!
^^^^^ I DON’T RECALL READING THAT ANYWHERE. IT IS A TRUE STATEMENT JUST THE SAME. HAD SHE SAID QUEEN OF SOUL, I WOULD HAVE FELT LIKE ARETHA HAD LEEWAY TO COMPLAIN. SO IF SHE WAS INTRODUCING QUEEN LATIFAH IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A PROBLEM TOO?
I think matthew had a right to say what he said. I mean damn how long has Aretha been in the music business, that should not have upset her at all. Tina Turner is a damn good artist and still looks good doing it. If Beyonce feels like Tina is a queen in her eyes that’s her damn business
WHY DIDNT ANYONE SAY ANYTHING WHEN MONIQUE TOLD BEYONCE AT THE BET AWARDS THAT SHE IS THE QUEEEN?
beyonce don’t know nothing he is protecting her like always its gonna get worse before it gets better instead of running up behind jay-z she need to be off reading and doing her own thing sometimes darn must you sit up under the man all the time come on now
I dont think that she dissed RiRi…I think that RiRi is fat and unhappy…and is a DIVA…I agree with Matthew however I wouldnt have said anything..this is too petty Beyonce is A-list celebrity and she was giving just dues to her icon…Aretha when Fantasia gets her tribute you will get your just due…

mathew knowles is such a b*tch. can beyonce defend herself at anytime??
If this wasn’t an ISSUE, Matty Knowles wouldn’t have felt the need to respond…but HE DID. I can think of other ‘gossipy’ things associated with Beyonce that he probably SHOULD’VE responded to, but didn’t.
I think he’s speaking up now because A) it’s the queen of tittyballs and soul music, Aretha Franklin and B) it’s more a high-profile type ‘controversial’/’rumor’ thingy going on.
It’s funny for me to sit back and watch this…but ultimately I don’t care. This too will blow over. Blah.
I applaud the fact that a blk man, especially a blk father came to his daughter’s defense over all this bullcrap. Aretha is really worried about the wrong thing. I bet if she put all that anger, resentment and negative into a Slim- Fast shake and a brisk walk for about 30 mins a day she will forget all about a Beyonce. Instead she’d rather sit up and let grease clog up her arteries and veins and around her heart, and throw a “royal” hissyfit because somebody called somebody ELSE a queen! We need more blk father’s like Matthew in this day and age.
Words only have the power you give them.
i’m w/you tbrown (#40). no such thing as bad publicity. mattie loves it.
I have to agree with the man.
I agree with him 100%
I agree with Matthew too, although I probably wouldn’t have said anything.
that’s what i said. so what?? GOOOOOOOOOOOOLY!
aretha…fall back and get over it…so silly and u r “bigger” than that drama.
If Aretha was petty enough to whine about it, I’m actually glad she got a response that wasn’t just encouraging her childishness.
Aretha going to the press was childish
I feel for Aretha. When I heard Beyonce I too was like “Ain’t that Aretha?!” No, chicky shouldn’t have been funky, but considering her age, having run to fat, and a career she won’t let end gracefully, let the Queen have hers.
If she were younger and on the hustle, I’d consider this a media op for her.
