Celeb Style: Estelle

As most of you know, singer Estelle is from my country, Great Britain. It pains me that Estelle won’t be accepted in America based on her amazing skills – because she doesn’t fit the Industry standard of beauty.

This is the reason why America is not considered the standard of Entertainment anywhere in the world.

Anyway, Estelle came through Atlanta last week on a promotional tour and my photographer Freddy O was with her every step of the way. Estelle’s style is fresh and maybe a little too unique for these shores.

As an artist Estelle is talented, I like her sound. Her sense of fashion is questionable. The first outfit is alright, the pic w/ those UGGS looks a mess.

It is different. But at the same time, I can appreciate her not being naked and doing crotch shots. If she can sing, let your voice speak for your appearance. Many of the greatest singers ‘from back in the day’ weren’t easy on the eyes. They had real talent and didn’t let physical ‘irregularities’ stop them from being successful. Just do you. If you aren’t cute, you just aren’t cute but you can blow. In 10 years, you’ll have to spend $$$ to stay cute.

Oh, but it IS considered the standard for ENTERTAINMENT. While a lot of the world is obsessed with the European standard of beauty, the standard for ENTERTAINMENT is definitely all things American.

This is why agents push their artists to sing with an American “accent”, to cross over. Once you make it on the charts in America, you’re set–in terms of popularity.

Let’s not even get started with the movie industry. No other market comes close to owning the box-office like American movies. Yes, quite a bit of it is gargage, but foreigners love it.

The only television market that comes close to America’s television is England. Americans have re-made quite a bit of their t.v. shows like: “The Office”, “Who Wants to be a Millionaire” and “American Idol”–which started off in England as “Pop Idol”. Still, England imports a lot of Ameican shows too.

Sandra, don’t sleep on the popularity of America’s style and influence.

It wont matter is she can really sing…a lot of artist are sucessfull and their looks didnt fit the “typical” artist now.

In the States yes we are about image but I’m sure Simon Cowell was very excited about that Leonna chick and she got a leg up in the industry for looking mixed with light eyes.

I lived in England from Jan04-Feb07

The Brits get it twisted sometimes with their style. I couldn’t find a decent hairstylist for all those years and so I stayed natural and at the barber. Estelle needs to step her game up, she came across the water and we expect more over here. I noticed their only interaction with BLACK people are actually Africans and West Indians, nothing in between.

Her hair is wack and when you get money keep that smile right.

This is just not true. Period. We set that standard. Your girl needs a fashion makeover. She doesn’t look like anyone doing anything on those pics besides chillin in her uggs with some kmart off color stretch pants, a tunic top too big for her and a plastic belt up around her boobs. Then wearing some bright red common looking shoes with again a very cheaply made outfit with zero sense of fashion. She ain’t doing nothing chicks hanging on a saturday afternoon ain’t rockin! But she has a great voice and I hope the best for her, just next time she decides to let someone follow her, be fashionable about it. She is allowed her downtime look but please do not try to pass it off as style or fashion, nothing unique about it at all.

BTW..as far as her beauty..I think like most clear skinned chocolate dolls, she is lovely. Her eyes are just hotness and she has a strong face and could really rock alot of different hairstyles and makeup if she wants but again, white or powder blue shadow is out, pretty much since the 80’s. She is so pretty, just don’t require much but to update her look and get some guidance from the folks who do that for a living.
