Did Atlantic Records force Estelle to get her teeth fixed?

Supposedly Atlantic Records ordered British phenomenon Estelle to have cosmetic surgery on her teeth to help break her in American because Americans are so image obsessed. It appears the pressure got to Estelle because when she made an appearance in Atlanta yesterday, she wore orthodontic braces on her teeth.

The record labels executives also got on her about her tomboyish haircut:

According to The Sun, the record label bosses also want her to ditch the boyish haircut and want to give her a complete image overhaul.

A source told the newspaper: “The American executives are adamant she makes a lot of significant changes. They want rid of her tomboy hair and want her to get her teeth fixed. (Source)

Estelle’s hit song “American Boy” ft. Pharrell Williams was #1 in the UK for three weeks.

If the made her good because there was no need for her to be walking around with jacked up mouth when she has the money to fit it. Yeppy! Is all I can say.

All I can say is welcome to our culture Estelle, theres no reason for anybody with money walking around with some jacked up teeth thats very unattractive.

I guess, as long as they don’t make her wear a tutu and ballet shoes down the red carpet.

Hmmm, well yeah it’s “American” culture, but America is no longer America anyways. If they really wanted her to get her teeth fixed they would told her a head of time though.LOL I haven’t heard that @ pinkvirgo when I jetsetted to UK they was all good.

Doesn’t the song feature Kanye West not Pharrell? If I had jacked teeth and someone was gonna pay for me to get them fixed I would jump at it!

LOL..I know that’s the stereotype about the Brits. Anyway, It should really be up to the person to decide what she/he wants to do though. Her teeth were never a problem before. According to her she felt her teeth were a part of her character. I mean as long as you like what you look like it’s just ridiculous to tell that person you have to “fix it”. Estelle is a very good artist and I couldn’t care less about what her teeth look like. We live in such a superficial world that there are actually ppl who refuse to take an artist seriously unless they look a certain way. BTW…I think it’s cool that for example country singer Jewel never fixed her crooked teeth and Madonna has always had that gap in her teeth, It’s part of her image.

A staple of American humor about the UK is the population’s bad teeth. For example, Lisa Simpson was shown “The Big Book of British Teeth” by her orthodontist. Is there actual evidence that British teeth are worse than anyone else’s?

This is from The Guardian.co.uk.But I hear it alot in movies and TV shows where they poke fun of it.I’ve never been.

Lol, Estelle’s teeth are crooked, yes, but her mouth wouldn’t look so bad if her gums weren’t uneven. She could go without the braces and just get her gums shaved, and her mouth would look decent enough to open.

she’ll be even more gorgeous once her grill is in place. ya’ll gotta admit, it was looking rough in there. as long as she’s not booty clappin’ in her upcoming videos, i think fixing her teeth is a positive thing because she is such a talent and she’s beautiful,

Sorry I did not take the time to read the comments in the room. It does look like her teeth are brigher and already corrected a little bit. I always thought that she is a beautiful woman. What I want to know is why Fantasia is still wearing braces after many years. Is she too lazy to get them removed. Were her teeth that bad? For an adult to wear braces you are only to have them on for 2 years. Fanny has had hers on since winning AI. Our Fannies braces her new grill and she does not want to let go of them?

im sayin tho, if she got a deal WHY NOT get her teeth fixed ? Prior to her deal, she prolly aint have the bread to ddo it, now the label pays for it

NOT TRUE! I got braces at the age of 26, I had them pieces on for about 4 years or until they were paid off (whichever came first – I think it totaled out to about the same – LOL). I also had to have several surgeries, you know wisdoms and bicuspids pulled and whatnot. An orthodontist can instantly tell how long you will need them as soon as you open your mouth. Now my daughter on the other hand, just got hers and she was told she would only have to wear them for a year.

Estelle will not regret Atlantic Records demands….oops I mean decision. If for the better boo, trust me. This is one time she can say, “They did her a huge favor”, I think she owes them. She should be indebted to them for life. LOL j/k

    MissGauzzz says:

Sorry, but if she wants to make it in the entertainment industry, especially by America’s standards, she is going to have to knuckle under to what her record label wants PERIOD or carry her azz back to the UK. Everybody knows that American’s are about image, like it or not. It’s the career she chose so she best deal with it.

There’s a lot of people with messed up grills that do not have insurance or the money to fix it. This lady’s record company is actually paying for her teeth to get fixed, so yes go for it!

    @Sandra

If they did who did it only did half the job.

  37. 37

that’s how the record industry is. of course! i do like how raw and natural she is BUT that is not always enuff here to sell. Estelle is a lovely girl though. great personality…cool voice. :)

I think that if she’s trying to be a singer, she can’t have no messed up teeth…..that’s one of the first things we see….

If she needs them, why not have her employers foot the bill?

  41. 41
    Hotstuff says:

Yes they did…I agree she could use some braces but at her own desire…They don’t do that ish to Rihanna with her tomboy hair cut and they didn’t do it with Amy Winehouse with her crooked ass teeth…

it’s getting pretty sad…and John Legend as her labelhead should’ve stepped up and said something but then again he likes them light and bright as well..

I wish her the best in her career And do you girl!!!
