Florida player charged with using dead girl’s credit card

Florida Gators junior safety Jamar Hornsby was charged with credit card fraud for making illegal purchases on a dead woman’s credit card. Hornsby turned himself in after learning a judge issued a warrant for his arrest. He was released hours later on his own recognizance.

According to the AP, the credit card belonged to Ashley Slonina, a Florida junior. She was riding a motorcycle with another football player, redshirt freshman Michael Guilford, last October when he lost control of the bike and hit a median wall at a high rate of speed. Both died at the scene. They were not wearing helmets.

Police say Hornsby began using the girl’s credit card the day after she died. He charged a total amount of $3,000 in 6 months, according to Alachua County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Stephen Maynard.

“I would love to hear the explanation for utilizing the card of a deceased person,” Maynard said.

Florida coach Urban Meyer said in a statement that Hornsby “is not part of our program.”

These people died last October and this fool started using the card the day after this girl died. Talk about not having any morals what so ever.

Just one question..why did it take so long for these people to find out that he was still using this card? What? was he sending in the minimum payment to keep the card active????? Sheer stupidity to do something like this. This is just like stealing jewelry off of the deceased at funeral homes or stealing from the pockets of a dead person.

People barely have respect for the living so I’m not surprised that no thought was given to the dead.

What a ridiculous and immature thing to do. I doubt it was worth it in the end

Maybe she had automatic minium payment from a checking account someone also forgot to stop. Other than that,
there is no way that card would have been active for so long.

this is a sad story, however it doesn’t surprise me at all…people do this all the time when people die and their business matters aren’t properly handled…this is more common then you’d think, especially w/in one’s family…
