Local newspaper puts Obama in the crosshairs

Firs of all the paper is in Roswell – enuff said. the Daily Kos says it better than I can. Thanks to SpaceyG for the tip!:

The accompanying article is about hate groups in the area who are upset about Senator Obama’s candidacy and concerns the local authorities have about possible violent acts from these groups. The article itself is not offensive, but the cover is beyond the pale. As indicated by the article, there are some serious racists in the area, and Obama’s candidacy has brought out the worst in a lot of people. The last thing we need is a newspaper to suggest assassination with an incendiary cover such as this.

Please let the Roswell Beacon know how you feel about their irresponsible cover:

    calling as we type lol. We can’t let nonsense like this continue to be published to the community. If we don’t do nothing else, atleast we can do is stand up for ourselves.

    Ya know, I’m not offended by it. I keep scrolling back up to it to try to identify the offensive part. Can someone who is offended by the cover tell specifically what I’m missing. Even if I don’t agreee, I still want to have a clue what the problem is.

    @Bird

    Have you been living under a rock for the past year? You can’t possibly be serious. Then again, some people like to just comment for the hell of it. You know, for the attention–even if it makes them look dumb as doorknobs. And if you can’t see what’s offensive about this cover then I assume you’re one of them. Poor thing. You just don’t know how silly you sound. SMH

    @Bird:

    Sweetie, that picture implies that there is a hit(target) on Obama’s life (or that there will be…) and his progress as a candidate is infuriating to racists. They have no other outlet. After all it’s not 1950… they can’t very well drag the man off into the woods and “deal with him” like they used to back in the day. You can’t seriously NOT KNOW what the problem is

    I’m with jamil20008, maybe you are just commenting for attention. Either way it is sad and disgusting that you would even make such an ignorant statement. There are other ways to get attention.

    Print media circulation is down all over the country. They did this simply to sell their paper and cause controversy.

    You would think folks who live in a community only famous for supposed alien landings would be a LITTLE more open-minded about having a black man as a candidate for President!

    But, it is very irresponsible for them to publish this, especially knowing that there are hate groups in the area.

  14. 14
    Kymystry says:

    Ummmm … The “Roswell” that had the alien sightings Is in NEW MEXICO .. Not GA …

    anywhoooo … ths is the Same town who has a Bar Patron who is Selling T-Shirts that say Obama ’08 WITH a Pic of Curious George on it ..

    to to http://www.wsbtv.com and search for the story if you don’t think it’s alive and well …

    Damn I’m glad I didnt buy a car from carl black, almost came close though,

    By the way this is offensive, but like most racists,they are trying to get a rise or scare out of people and they gets none from me.

    Divine Ms. K:

    The newspaper is from Roswell, GA not Roswell, NM (site of the supposed alien landings).

    Had the target been aimed at Bush, it never would have printed.

    There should be a great deal of sensitivity when it comes to assassinations. Remember John F. and Robert F. Kennedy!

    i say its offensive and could be described as a threat to his life. i have been telling people the new south is just the old south who learned how to tolerate the negros so i can get their money. here in the south, once you leave the city you will go back 40 yrs in time. it was not a shock to me because i grew up in rual south and know how they act.obama has to be careful, because he has young daughters and i rather him be senator obama than dead obama

    I like your comment. Obama is not thinking about “them” plus he has had body guards before a candidate usually is entitled to one. He is not dumb. The Pope would not drive/ride down the street in a motorcade without it being bullet proof. Obama knows there are haters and that he is a powerful man and that ignorant and mental ppl like to assinate for so called fame.

    This is one of the reason why we should teach our kids about black history so the next generation so they will know they can run for president or be a senator. Even though US will always be a whites man land dear god we are here!! VOTE OBAMA!! Cause they getting scared ya’ll :)

    PAHairston says:

    We all know that Colin Powell refused to run for President because his wife feared for his life. That said, Obama needs to be protected 24/7. As most black Americans, and many white ones also, I would love to see Obama become the first Black president of the U.S. But we have to realize that as long as the KKK, the oldest domestic terrorist organization in the nation exist, along with the many other secret white supremacists groups, there’s a very good chance that someone will try to take his life. White folks need to think before attempting this, long and hard, because if we start fighting each other (the revolution will not be televised), it’ll be the prime opportunity for our REAL ENEMIES to attack us and take this country down. All of us, black and white, we really need to get our acts together because Mother Nature(God) is truly mad at somebody: hurricanes, tornadoes(where there has NEVER been a tornadoes, volcanoes, floods, disease, tsunamis, did I leave out any natural disasters. You’d think with all this going on with Mother Nature, man, not woman, would finally get their act together and turn from war to peace because the answer is Jesus, which is love. As usual, I leave you in peace, and when all is said and done, when “an end will come to the system of things”, I hope to see you in heaven.

    Thanks to all who corrected me. I’m from Texas, so my apologies for not knowing about every little town in Georgia. As far as I knew the only Roswell was in N.M.

    No matter the city, town or redneck village the newspaper was published in, it was still irresponsible to publish the cover as it was and they only did it to sell magazines.

    The magazine is free. You know how folks like free. Bigots and ignorant ppl are going to be the ones picking up this copy because of the cover. I am sure they will distribute more copies than any past publication. Hate is alive and well in this good ole country we all “The United States of America.
