The moderator of tomorrow’s much-hyped showdown between Senator Joe Biden (D) and Gov. Sarah Palin (R) is putting out a book that promises to “shed new light” on Sen. Barack Obama.
The book’s release date is being timed to coincide with the election of this country’s new leader on Nov. 4.
Gwen Ifill is confident that Mr. Obama has the election in the bag. But should the moderator of such an important debate show such blatant bias towards one party? Couldn’t she wait until after the debate to announce this book of hers?
Apparently, Ifill doesn’t care if we know she’s biased. She has faced criticism before for not treating candidates of both major parties the same.
During 2004’s vice-presidential debate — which Ifill moderated — there was an intense exchange between Democrat John Edwards and Republican Dick Cheney.
Cheney asked Ifill for more time to rebut Edwards accusations because 30 seconds wasn’t enough.
“Well, that’s all you’ve got!” she snapped at Cheney. Later, Ifill told the Associated Press that the Democrats were “delighted’ with her answer.
And viewers of PBS’ Washington Week, which Ifill hosts, reported a “look of disgust” on Ifill’s face when she reported on Sarah Plain’s speech during the Republican National Convention. (Source)

Well, I highly doubt that they are going to change moderators before tomorrow. McCain himself could be the moderator and she still will sound like a clueless twit.

Ifill has to deal with a lot, the last thing she needs to worry about is a blog calling her biased. Like every journalist, one has to vote. By stating Obama has the election in the bag,is this because she wants him to win or is this a hypothesis? In 2004, I stated George W. Bush WOULD win. Is this because I wanted him to win? Not so much. But, I made a guess and got it right.
I don’t remember the VP debate from last year, but if the dude only had 30 seconds like the OTHER dude, then you only have 30 seconds. That’s not biased. That’s right.
So, would the outcry be the same if the moderator were someone sympathetic to the Republicans? Bill O’Reilly nor Hannity were available I guess.
And there are time limits on how long people have to speak and rebut during debates - maybe all he DID have was 30 seconds.
Did anyone see the View today, I really think Hassleback days are limited, she snapped off at Barbara. She is just something else, she will not even admit that Palin is coming up with crazy answers.

My problem with this whole issue is that they are representing her book as a book about Barack Obama, and that is not the whole story. Her book is about black politicians and how the Civil Rights movement impacted opportunities available to them. I haven’t read her book, But I am sure if she looking at black in politics, she is covering most if not all blacks, which would include democrats and republicans. Yes, the book will have probably have more Dems then Reps, but only becasue there are more black dems than Reps.
I honestly think this is non-issue and many reporters also write non-fiction novels about Politics and history. Gwen Ifil is no different. Just another set-up/excuse in case Palin fails (thought I doubt she will).
