LAW: British Women Will Be Informed of Their Hubby/Boyfriend’s Violent Pasts
Great Britain is cracking down on cowardly wife beaters and domestic abusers by considering a measure to inform women of their new mate’s abusive history.
The legislation would be similar to Megan’s law here in the states which keeps tabs on pedophiles and requires them to register when they move to a new area.
According to the Daily Mail, British women who fall in love with wife beaters and domestic abusers will be informed about their violent pasts.
Jacqui Smith, the Home Secretary, said she wanted to break the cycle of domestic violence by targeting “serial offenders” who “basically go from one relationship to another” beating up women.
This is a great idea in light of the frequent abuse that pop singer Rihanna suffered at the hands of her boyfriend Chris Brown.
The proposal being considered in Britain would also give power to law enforcement to ban offenders from the homes of women who are abused. This provision would supersede the need for protective orders in the cases of women who refuse, or are afraid to take out orders of protection against their abusers.
The British are always one step ahead of the U.S. when it comes to protecting it’s most vulnerable citizens. How do we get such a bill or law passed here in the United States to protect weak women like Rihanna?

I must admit, I do like the way the British take care of their own. I guess here in the states you have to have the celeb status of Rhianna and Chris for domestic abuse to get noticed. SMDH!

Actually this exact same information is somewhat available to any citizen/resident of the Us. Arrest records are public knowledge, so if a man has been arrested for Dom. Violence or sexual violence and you wanted to find out about him before you got into a serious relationship, you have the tools to do so.

@Daisy, I think she does. I mean, clearly you don’t care about yourself that much if you stay with a man who beats you, but when you stay with a man who beats and the whole world knows about it and they have proof!! So on top of the physical pain, you have to go through the additional humiliation of that! Psssh you really have low regard for yourself.

No. I don’t think this means she has low self esteem either. It is possible to love a man who beats you. Love is a very powerful emotion and we know from pics that there are times that their relationship is adorably loving. I’m assuming that is what they are both fighting to keep.
@Bird I think Chris wanted out (could be wrong or wanted his cake and eat it to like most men). When I saw those pics from Clives party the 1st thing I said was dang Chris doesn’t look happy yet she did. Now we all know we have ups/down when it comes to affairs of the heart. They are to young to be so serious esp. him. In the interview with Clue he made it clear he was young and had no intentions of settling down anytime soon and why should he at 19 and famous..lol I agree they did make a cute couple to me as well though.
However, a source involved in the investigation tells Hollyscoop exclusively that in the reports, Rihanna confessed there has only been two other incidences in which she felt threatened, but this was the first time Chris retaliated. Rihanna told investigators that the first incident occurred in Europe three months ago. It was a verbal dispute, which led to Rihanna slapping Chris Brown. In self-defense, Chris put her up “against the wall” and told her to calm down.
The second incident occurred when the couple was visiting Rihanna’s family in her native Barbados back in August 2008. She described the incident as a verbal dispute, and added that no one was assaulted. According to the source involved in the investigation, the night of the alleged attack, Rihanna attacked Chris after reading a text message sent to him by a former lover.

I think she let the fame get to her head (which is cool bc she is young & a huge star) & she felt almost invincible. I reported on a blind item that leaned real hard on being her. It stated she thought she was above the rest, talked nasty to people and that her boy toy would never leave her because he knew better. Guess when she got the memo it was over she couldn’t take it. (Especially when u r surrounded by yes men)
Don’t know what happened that night but I strongly believe it was caused by two ego’s who thought they were above & beyond. But when the boys in blue get involved that tends to be a reality check.
@Isc interesting. I heard those rumors as well about her but I never really paid attention to them. I agree they both got out of hand that night and Chris can’t afford to lose control like that he knows he will always get the best of her and that in society a man should NEVER hit a woman. Bless their hearts!
