Another urban TV show is about to be canceled

The cast of WB’s The Game need your help to keep the show from being canceled. According to a member of the CW boards, Tom Joyner announced the show is in jeopardy of being canceled due to lackluster ratings. I admit I’ve never seen the show, but then it isn’t being marketed to senior citizens.

So if you want to save the show, go here to voice your opinion. They need 1,000,000 posts by next week. Good luck with that.

Thats is NOT true they are NOT getting cancel Mara Brock Akil who is the creator of the show is trying to get the show to stay on for an hour bye April 15th is when she goes to her executive meeting….

I watch the game and Im a fan of the show so I did go over to the cw website and blogged about it so to all the SR fam if you love “The Game” please support them. This is what we have been asking for an hour long drama show

The Game is a great show. I hope it continues for a few more seasons. I think the writers strike hindered it a little but it still makes me laugh!!!

Well they changed the day it came on to tv death day aka Friday nights along with Everybody Hates Chris which are the only 2 black shows on the network. They switched dates and times of this show SO much so they can lose viewers and they suceeded.

All those other lily shows (love Gossip Girls and One Tree Hill too) but their shows are lumped in with popular shows leading in to increase viewership but they put The Game as the lead in show to EHC and the game wasn’t even pulling in a million viewers most of the time. The CW doesn’t want either of the only 2 black shows they have left and I don’t think they care how many people sign the petition. Look at how they did Girlfriends.

@ Shauny … This is why we need a real network to step up to the plate & set a standard for Black TV programming. The programs we tend to have are always comdey, reality or sports oreinted. I really want this show to survive.

I have never seen the show either but I was furious when they took of ‘Girlfriends’!

It seems that shows with predominately black casts just can’t catch a break.

I also want to REALLY know how they get ratings data. How do they know what every tv in the US is watching? I just find it hard to believe that 21 million can watch a American Idol or Greys Anatomy but 1.1 million watch The Game. I really think ratings are untruthful. Remember when they had those Neilsens boxes? Did you have 1 in your house? I know I didn’t. I only knew 2 families who had that box. So how do they get what the other households are watching?

I’ve heard really good things about “The Game”, I haven’t tuned in yet either, but I was hoping to catch an episode this weekend and see what all the fuss is about.

I keep hearing this rumor. One minute it’s true, the next it isn’t. Either way I don’t think this show needs to be canceled. They just need to change the slot (day/time) of the show. I mean, who watches TV on Friday? I usually catch up with the episodes of the show on the internet. (I mean, does those ratings count) Anyway…heading over to CW website to voice my opinion.

@ Daisy, when I’m home on Fridays I can’t watch TV ’cause there’s nothing on like it is during the week. I always 4get about “THE GAME” on Fridays, so as u said, CW did that for a reason…”Say yes to the dress”, I forgot that came on too.

@Daisy – Same thing for me. The only show I watch on Friday is The Game or record it if I wont be there to watch it. I think that’s what the majority of people do and that’s why Friday is known as “tv death day”.

@point – I would say The Game is a dramedy. It’s both comedy and drama. I think that it goes off WAY too fast. It is a really great show.

Daisy I have to catch the 2 shows before last Friday because I missed then. Based on the previews, I’m guessing Tasha turned Rick down. I didn’t see him last week AND she’s trying to get with Malik’s dad tonight. Is Rick gone? He was really good on the show so I hope not.

@Shauny tasha told Rick they would re visit the situation in a wk or so and then the drama at the job jumped off. So then she got mad and thought he sabotaged her and what not. By the time she realzied that wasnt the case he told her he was moving to Miami. I am not sure if we have seen the last of him.

Dang, sounds like I missed the 2 good shows. I have to wait until I get off the work network to look at them. I hope he comes back. They should’ve let Tasha settle down and see that she can be happy. I hope that’s the outcome.

@ Shauny as far as ratings go. They pick lets say 4 to 6 out of 10 households and moniter what they watch and listen to.

I was part of that ‘group’ for a month or so but I opted out. They wanted you to carry this black box around everywhere you went to pick up signals. It got annoying for me. They do pay you not a lot but a couple of dollars.

I know being black I should’ve stayed with it. Sorry The Game.

This is my FAVORITE TV show !! I knew when they put the show on Friday night they were setting it up for failure. Who in the hell is home most Friday nights ?! They have a GREAT cast with GREAT chemistry and it is one of the FEW TV shows with an all black cast (with the exception of Brittany Daniel who is AWESOME). PLEASE even if you don’t watch please show your support for black actors ! Mara has brought us “Girlfriends” and now “The Game”. Please support her !!

I know right…..im so sad, getting caught up in all these modeling show, for the Love of RAY J, Gs to Gents, and TI…ain watched Greys Anatomy, Desperate housewives,ain even been to abc.com to catch up…im just sad girl. Since the video above was released, fans have been shutting down the threads with multiple posts on the same topic so a new video was released alerting fans to post all of their comments in the thread titled “The Official Change ‘The Game’ Petition Thread. Most of what you typed above is not true. Believe it or not the ratings are higher now that the show is on Fridays. If anything hurt the show it was the writer’s strike which occured before the show moved. Ratings dipped on Sunday after that and they are just starting to come back up. Also, The Game isn’t the lead in to Everybody Hates Chris. The Game comes on after EHC.

The network has definately short-changed the show, but not in the ways you listed.

@Bird when The Game was on Sunday’s they were pulling in more than 3 million viewers, they are not doing that now. They are not even close. Yeah, I incorrectly put that The Game lead EHC when it’s actually the other way around but that is the ONLY thing that wasn’t true of what I posted.

Friday is known as death day for tv and is where networks schedule shows that they want to cancel, they switched the day from Sunday to Friday and ratings ARE down. If you look at shows on the CW a show that is or once was struggling has a strong lead in show. One Tree Hill was on the verge of being cancelled before they put it behind Gossip Girls and now it’s one of their top shows.

You believe the writers strike is the result of the drop in ratings and I believe the change to Friday is. Why is my reasoning not true and yours is? I guess we’ll agree to disagree.

Not to start a pissing match or anything, but I have researched The Game’s ratings extensively and report them weekly on the Myspace page I created for the show a year ago. I know for a fact that the show has not seen anywhere near 3 million viewers since before the writer’s strike. Of course before the writer’s strike Girlfriends was still on the air and the lead in show for The Game. This season the show has been hovering around 1.9 million viewers. Last season it was around 1.6 million viewers.

And them moving to Fridays DID NOT help the ratings either..lol They declined even the more. Every show on TV suffered due to the writers strike thats a given. Most have bounced back the game was moved to Fri so that was not the case for them.

it was easier for me to watch it on sunday vs. friday…but lets just keep our fingers crossed that the show doesn’t get cancelled.
