Murder suspect pleads not guilty

The man police say fired the shots that killed up-and-coming Atlanta rapper Dolla in a Beverly Hills shopping mall pleaded not guilty in a L.A. courtroom today.

Aubrey Berry, aka “AB”, a 23-year-old Atlanta nightclub promoter, pleaded not guilty to one charge of murder and two counts of assault with a firearm. Police say Berry followed Dolla, 21, real name Roderick Anthony Burton II, to a PF Changs restaurant inside the upscale Beverly Center shopping complex where he was confronted by Dolla and his crew in the restaurant restroom.

After throwing up gang signs (Dolla was allegedly a member of the Crips) a fight ensued and spilled outside the restaurant. Other reports say Berry was in the valet area waiting for his car when Dolla and two others, his cousin Scrapp Deleon and local rapper D.J. Shabazz, approached him. Berry’s attorney said he felt threatended and drew his weapon firing two shots into the back of the unarmed Dolla as he ran away. One bullet pierced Dolla’s heart killing him.

According to one source, Berry was licensed to carry a concealed weapon, which explains how he was able to get the firearm through airport security. Berry remains jailed in L.A. on $5 million bail.

Add one or in this case two more stories to the sad saga that is this young boys death.

The above must be sn I heard it through the grapevine story because all reports and witnesses who commented has said that it was the victim who was waiting in the valet area not the guy who did the shooting. Also no one has said Dolla was in a fight or that a fight in the mall happened at all. Also was he shot in the head or heart? I’ve seen head but not heard everywhere else.

It sounds like someone is trying to justify this guy traveling to another state with his gun, shooting and killing someone, jumping in a waiting car and fleeing to the airport. He chose to pull the trigger. If they were “arguing” why did he pull his gun? SMDH

He better just keep his azz in jail until trial. I hope he is in protective custody because his azz is in serious trouble if there is gang involement.

I don’t think people who are licensed to carry a concealed weapon can take it on a flight. He was arrested in the airport lobby which is before you go through security.

I don’t know whose story is the truth but this reminds me of the morehouse case but the victim did not die the gunman got off because he said his life was n danger but he was the one who started the fight and pulled out a gun but after all that he felt his life was n danger and got off shooting somebody multiple times and remained a student at morehouse I read that and was to thru he got probation and a fine the victim went back home to CA never returning to college SMH

Yes, he can take it on a flight. That’s how bodyguards and security people travel with their weapons. The licensing requirements for a concealed weapon permit are very strict. You can’t have so much as a parking ticket on your record. My brother got a permit right out of high school and he told me how difficult it was to obtain.

    @ Bird

Actually if you are all legit with the reasons why you need it you can carry it onto a flight, BUT it has to be in a locked box and the key can’t be kept in the same area as the case.

My father in law brought his gun out to CA but he had to declare it and had documentation saying it was ok for him to carry it. So it is possible.

@ Daisy: Money talked in that Morehouse case. He got off because he had plenty of disposable income. Marvin Arrington should be ashamed of himself for letting that menace to society loose in our community.

He has money so we’ll see how this plays itself out in court. IMO, he lost when he pulled a gun and shot an unarmed boy in the back. I don’t know how he can defend that. But money talks.

    Anna says:

Yep, money talks and bull s hit walks. As far as the concealed gun laws go it is different in every state. In my state you can not take them in public places like libraries or public parks and if you have them in your vehicle you can not have the bullets in the gun. The gun can be concealed but the bullets have to be in the glove compartment or the trunk of the vehicle. But in my city and any where it is the gang bangers and the thugs who don’t register to buy a gun who use them the most. There is not a thin line between good and evil and if I am a law abiding citizen with a registerd gun why do I have to pop my trunk open to put bullets in my gun to pop a cap in a thugs ass trying to carjack, rob or kill me?
Back on topic, are we surprised that he plead “not guilty”? Everyone is so innocent these days. They buy time to prove themselves innocent only for we tax payers to remind them that we know you were at the scene of the crime. SMH. Attorneymom, why do some cases go so long for trial when a shooting or robbery is caught on tape?

@Anna because our constitution says we are allowed to due process(tape or no tape) that would be why is my guess.

    dblaq says:

Well regarding the concealed weapons license, you have to be licensed in EACH state. If he is licensed in Georgia it does not carry over to CAlifornia as weapons laws are different. Also just because you have license it does not allow you to carry it on the plane on your person, it has to be unloaded, locked in a case declared and it has to be given to the pilot or who ever is designated. Bodyguards do not get special licenses they have to follow the same rules as anybody else. Cops or federal agents of course have different privileges.

How the hell is he going to plead not guilty when his ass shot him and I guess Dolla was unarmed? You can only shoot to kill when your life is threatened but that has to be determined if your life was really in danger. Usually somebody has to have a weapon for it to work

    dblaq says:

Well that is how our justice system works (the morehouse story). The ones that should get the breaks NEVER get the breaks but the ones that need to be locked up and throw away the key, get chance after chance.

It is a lot easier to go after innocent people than the real criminals because most of the time the real criminals know the law, how to dodge it, how lie and manipulate to get off.

The innocent usually are too scared and honest so they wind up getting the shaft.

The cops right now are on a pull over spree, instead of going after killers, home invasion artists, rapists. It is a lot more lucrative to pull normal citizens over that won’t fight, just take the ticket and pay it.
