Remember when girl groups wore clothes and could actually sing?

Remember when Jayne and Leon Kennedy were the original Jay Z and Beyonce?

Remember when you wanted to pinch Gary Coleman's cheeks?

Remember when Michael Jackson was still black?

Remember when we still cared what made OJ Simpson run?

Remember when professional athletes like Sugar Ray Leonard still married their high school sweethearts?

Remember when Mike Tyson was considered a sex symbol?

I love this post. I hope you do one every week.

Remember when people wore Buttons on their clothes with their favorite celeb.

ie Michael Jackso, Prince, New Edition

  • Daisy

Lebron is still with his high school sweetheart and Chris Pauls girl was with him in college I think. She just had her baby. He is a cutie.

Is Sugar Ray still married to that same wife? If so that's nice if not thats the way the cookie crumbles sometimes

  • avidreader

Tyson was a sex symbol to gold digger's and deaf women .. he lost any possibility of being sexy as SOON as he opened his mouth... just ludacrithssss ... lol

  • Coo Coo Bananas

Hello All. Ahhhh, these pics bring back pleasant memories. I often comment on our black younguns today and how most look, act and sound like heathens but I must admit, a lot of their problems steams from our problems back in the day, and then we became parents. We wanted so much for our children to have MORE than we did. MORE should have been more education, more respect, and more guidance and love, not necessarily material things. My husband often tells me that black folks have plenty of hindsight. How true, how true. But we must NEVER give up on our younguns. After all, they are our future. (That's most of you on this board, peace.)

  • Krysi J

  • iscream

I wonder if Michael Jackson looks at these old pictures and want to cry. He must not allow any mirrors in his house. He has to regret doing that to himself. Can't he sue the doctor that did that to him. Poor baby.

    Looking like Powder.
Chin looking like a wooden doll.

Let me stop bc I loves me some MJ.

  • melinla

I like this post - I was young but remember this. I still have my MJ clock in the cabinet above my cabinet. My daughter said who is that...still thinks I'm lying when I tell her MJ

LORD please give me the patience, the kindess, and all the love I need to raise my son right I would never forgive myself if he turned out or more like TURNED "INTO" THAT!

  • Shauny

Sandra you had me until.....the Mike Tyson sex symbol comment. He wasn't anything but the best boxer alive in my neck of the woods. I didn't hear anyone saying they wanted Iron Mike.

These are old covers, look like 80s which means what they are wearing now was the chit back then. Take out some of your old pictures and see what you were wearing in the 80s. I know I always get a good laugh from old pictures.

  • Made4Success

    No, I don't

  • wiggy2272003

Naima, no disrespect but are you joking? Seriously you never heard of Jayne Kennedy? Wow, I thought everybody's mom wanted to be like Jayne or Pam Grier.

  • Peachizz

I still like the Jackson 5.

  • kcicero

Sandra you had me until…..the Mike Tyson sex symbol comment. He wasn’t anything but the best boxer alive in my neck of the woods. I didn’t hear anyone saying they wanted Iron Mike.

    Co-sign, lol.

  • shannon04

These covers went way back. Thanks for the link attorneymom.

  • Shauny

Sometimes all you can do is give Naima a head shake and a teeth She reminds me of Mullet sometimes.

  • Kymystry

Shauny .. me thinks you might be on to something

  • Naima

I am not joking and I don't recall my mom wanting to be like anyone. She was a grown azz woman with kids living real life. What movie was Jayne Kennedy in?

  • coaretained

    nodding @ #38...

DYING @ iscream.... you need to quit.. two days in a row.. Powder...LOL....friggin powder

  • Mz_Magnificent1

@ Naima...Jayne Kennedy was the Halle Berry (as far as beauty is concerned) before Halle Berry was even thought of.

Seriously, men lost their minds over her...I think my Dad even had a crush on her too LOL!!! Also she has been mentioned in alot of rap songs too...most notable is Mos Def's "Ms. Phat Booty".

I honestly think my Grandmama had all of these Ebony mags in her basement lololol...I remember seeing the Mike Tyson and Gary Coleman mags after she passed a few years ago. I should have kept some of them forreal...

  • ELove

"Ms. Phat Booty" was THE CUT ...

  • yvonne79

My mother used to LOOOVVVVVVEEEE Sugar Ray. But I remember a LOT of these covers. My folks used to have these spread out across the coffee table. LMAO

  • bk2atl

@Attymom....I'm never gonna get work done now! Thanks so much for the link. I feel re-connected with my childhood today.
@Yvonne...I think our parents bought coffee tables just so they could have somewhere to spread these magazines out! LOL

  • Shauny

@43 yep! MTV Jams still plays the video sometimes.

Naima, adding to what #42 said she was like Vanessa Williams before we'd ever heard of Vanessa Williams. She was a model, actress, sports caster (who remembers that). She was (I believe) the first black woman to get the cover of Playboy, to rank in the finals of Miss USA. That's all that I can remember. Then she married Leon Kennedy (can you say Yall know yall loved those movies. They were like the 80s Will and Jada.

  • ELove

OMG 'Penitentiary' was some of FUNNIEST S-H-I-T I've ever seen

  • miamore73

    Loved it!!!

Check out Michael he's starting to fade back then.

You mean coffee tables aren't for spreading magazines out on ????? Dayum!!!

I remember Jayne Kennedy being hawt. Never did know how Leon Kennedy was. I LOVED Sugar Ray Leonard. I thought he was so cute when I was little.

  • pointhimout

Jayne Kennedy is married to a real estate developer, beautiful daughters. Penetiary was funny as hell, all parts. Remember the scene where the guy's piece of ass had to sit down to piss. If he stood up and pissed, the boyfriend would whoop his ass.
