We should have known that Nas and Kelis would be back at each other’s throats after playing nice at a recent industry event in NYC with their newborn son.
According to TMZ.com, rapper Nas is battling to save his small fortune from ending up in ex-wife Kelis’ hands.
While he has a little change saved over from record sales and light touring, Nas is not willing to fork over the $55,000 a judge recently ordered him to pay Kelis in spousal support.
Nas filed papers asking the judge in his divorce case to block Kelis from receiving the excessive amount of cash. His attorney also asked the judge for joint custody of their two month old son.
Kelis is now seeking $72,728 in child support and spousal support, according to TMZ.

I don’t understand why Kelis feels she’s entitled to such an exorbitant amount of cash? I mean Nas never told her to put out crap records or prevented her from working. All she really needs is child support, spousal support for this able bodied adult is uncalled for.
I still can’t understand the amount the judge came up with. It’s a lot of money per month for a spouse and child.
On another note…I got my VH1 trainwreck on with my hubby last night and saw Ray J and Diddy. Why does Ray J even waste his time bringing black girls on the show? He know he doesn’t get down with the brown. I want to ask him that whenever he comes to chat.

I was with VH1 myself. I couldn’t get thru the Ray J show. But Puffy always makes for good tv. So sick of the loud black woman role on these shows. I think they seek them out on purpose.

guess I am in the minority here that Nas is wrong. This girl did it the right way made him marry her BEFORE the child, stopped working then got pregnant. He broke his vows to love honor and protect her. About the amount its based on percentage of his yearly income the standard for the amount of time of marriage etc. And like Iscream said the time to be cheap is not in your legal defense.
These two turned out to be a big fake azz disappointment. Clearly Kelis was with him for the money and I guess he just wanted to be a rapper with an industry chick on his arm. Too bad he picked a broke one.

I’m with you. I give Nas the majority of the blame here. For one thing he was the one trying to floss for his supposedly financially independent wife. Had he not gotten her accostomed to a lifestyle that is clearly above his means then the judge wouldn’t have given her that Diddy-sized support.

Kelis didn’t stop working when she married Nas. Didn’t she put out 2 ablums post marriage? Also, isn’t she the one with the rumored sex tape post marriage? I’m pro women but I also look at everything. Yes, by all means get child and spousal support but come on not $75k a month.

I agree with child support, but unless Kelis can prove he told her to stop working (which she didn’t because she did release at least one more album during their brif union), then I don’t see why she needs adult support. He can even argue that part of the lifestyle she got accustomed to was also based on income she brought into the marriage. Kelis wasn’t some corporate type who had to abandon her career to get accommodate her spouse’s career, she worked in the same industry as he did & had freedom to pursue her career goals. Their child will be adequately provided for, so she can continue to pursue her self-stalled career; especially if joint custody is granted.
VAALLDAY, apparently he is. When the spousal/child amount story first broke, they came out with the fact he is coowner of guerilla tours. His lawyer would have to prove that amount was not fair and didn’t.
Kara and Shauny, Apparently the alleged tape and ladylove was just that alleged because if there was ANY proof at all don’t you think Nas’s lawyer would have been all over it and brouhgt it in. There was proof of his affair. She brought pictures off his cell phone, text, etc . She also did prove he told her to stop working(she was enrolled in culinary school)I am not sure about the albums or if they were recorded before/after . Kara are you against alimony in general or just for her? Shauny do you disagree with the amounts based on percentage or only if said amount is large?

@wiggy, not against alimony for people who actually need it, like spouses who put everything on hold for their significant others, perhaps moving to a different state/country, quitting a rising career to raise the family and take care of the spouse, someone who sold individual assets to join them with their spouses etc.
Kelis doesn’t necessarily fall into any of these categories… they maintained homes in several states that accommodated both of their careers, she continued to work well into their marriage in her career of choice…, Kelis didn’t give up her life or do much to deserve long term spousal support, maybe one or two properties, a car or two & a “thank you for playing” consolation lump sum, but nothing more than that.

Here’s the thing Karaz, she said in court they discussed children yadayada all that before marraige and agreed she would raise their child(ren) no nannys, no working, she stopped touring, enrolled in culinary school and got pregnant. Everything was going to plan and then Nas affair. I look at it like a contract and Nas broke the contract and now he’s got to pay.
No nannies? she a damn lie. Part of her request for child support includes childcare expenses ( a nurse & a nanny). If she’s asking for support based on the fact that she’s sticking to their original agreement, why does she need 2 full-time child care workers?
Again, she should get a lump sum & child support, continued spousal support is not necessary, she needs to go back to work. Nas needs to play dirty with this chick, since she’s acting brand new.

As for playing her dirty, she welcomed 3rd parties into their marriage for a long time, so why is this one really different? He needs to go ahead & bring out the whole truth out since this chick is really acting like a scorned woman.
I don’t know how I would feel about a man asking me to quit my job and raise children. My thought is a woman, we are equipped to multitask. Why should we have to give up who we are as a woman to raise children? If Nas did ask Kelis to give up her noncareer then she SHOULD be compensated for it. Absolutely Kelis, go for the jugular.
Going back in the industry doesn’t mean shes gonna be making loot today. Its just the way it is he broke the contract apparently the amount the jude ordered the correct amount of his income. Like I said he entered into a legal agreement broke said agreement and again he apparently couldn’t prove (sex tape, lesbian affairs, OR 3rd parties). You can’t break a conract you knew full and well what the fees would be and then not want to pay them. I really believe if there was any more “whole truth” it would have been brought out. Nas is notoriously cheap( wouldn’t pay child support first baby mother went dirty on her-check youtube).
