The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s office has officially ruled Ashley “AJ” Jewell’s death a homicide, according to TMZ.com.
The cause of death is listed as, “Physical altercation resulting in sickle cell trait related exertional collapse.” Contributing factors are listed as, “intestinal myocardial fidrosis,” (?) as well as an enlarged heart.
I’ve never heard of “intestinal myocardial fidrosis” I’m sure they meant “myocardial fibrosis” and someone just threw “intestinal” in there because it was a big word.
But it seems that Jewell died from sudden heart failure caused by overexertion due to his pre-existing conditions — an enlarged heart and sickle cell disease.
This is similar to when a football player with an undiagnosed enlarged heart drops dead on a football field.
Jewell died just hours after he was involved in an altercation with Frederick Richardson who co-managed The Body Tap strip club. Richardson was arrested in the days following Jewell’s death. He is currently free on bond.
Jewell appeared in a few episodes on Real Housewives of Atlanta season 2. He was engaged to cast member Kandi Burruss, but the couple ended their engagement in August.

Damn, I was hospitalized in July with an enlarged heart. Now my azz is scared. I better stop cussing folks out since I got out of the hospital. Wow. I am calming my azz down right now.

It was hard watching him and Kandi on the Housewives of Atlanta after hearing about his death. An uncomfortable feeling came over me.

Two men were fighting and one man died. If it wasnt self defense somebody is going to jail. I dont know the details of the fight so I really cant say, but I wont be quick to let ol’ boy off the hook just because dude had a heart condition.

It’s just sad that so many lives are changed by this. One guy loses his life, and another is possibly facing jail or a criminal record.
If AJ threw the first punch, there is no need to go forward with the prosecution of this case.

If AJ started the fight as earlier reports stated and the suspect clearly was beat down based on his mugshot I still dont see how he can face charges and be convicted. I would not convict him if I were on the jury. He can say it was self defense and his face was jacked up

I know Kandi was grieving and was kinda out of it when she talking about the incident on the Reunion show, but I felt that she should not have made the statement on TV that AJ did not look like he was in a fight. That certainly can be used in court.

The homicide case can be successfully prosecuted IF AJ did not throw the first punch…..Example XYZ and I get in a fight during the fight XYZ falls and hit their head and die…I didn’t intend on killing XYZ I just wanted to beat them up but the act of me starting the fight in the first place resulted in thier death so I can be charged…

So what type of charges will placed on the other man? He definitely didn’t intentionally kill him. Did AJ know he had an enlarged heart? I don’t think he should get jail time or a felony charge on his record, it was an immature fight not murder. Still a very sad situation for AJ’s family…I’ll pray for their peace of mind.

that guy is gonna walk if this goes to a jury. also, the fact that kandi mentioned what his face looks like doesn’t mean much because the coroner has pics of his face and body that will be shown at trial. if you are sickly, you don’t need to be mixing it up. if you do, then unfortunately you run the risk of doing more harm to yourself than the other person.

I just don’t know about this…the initial claim is that he was assaulted by this big group of men, but even Kandi said during the RHOA reunion that when she saw him in the hospital morgue that same night, he had not a bruise or scratch on him….I respect the fact the man is deceased now, but I do believe that he initiated this fight, and overexerted himself on his own recognizance

There are just so many rumors and assumptions to this story that the truth will never come out.
Who said A.J instigated the fight? I’ve heard this was ONE in how many scenarios of how his death occured. First he was jumped, then dude had some guys waiting on him outside and they fought one and one dude was losing and then A.J was jumped, they were fighting in the club and it spilled outside and he hit his head, the cow jumped over the moon, etc. WE DON’T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED.
Point is dude was dead and if he didn’t start the fight and was defending himself then dude should be charged with voluntary manslaughter at least. IF A.J started the fight then case dismissed.

I’m shocked. To be honest I don’t think the man should be charged with homicide. If he’s charged with anything it should be manslaughter. But RIP to AJ and may his family be blessed and given serenity through this hard time. I know how his kids feel I lost my dad to violence in 2008.

I feel so sorry for AJ’s family for this to have to play out in the media his children have access to the internet and their daddy’s death will always be in the backs of their heads. Before fighting people should think about their family because at this age its just not worth it.

A case like this is the reason I try to tell certain type of “keeping it real” macho men (my husband…) that backing down from certain conflicts is the smartest and mature thing to do. I know I will catch some flack but I don’t care. I was a cop and I arrested soooo many people (men and women) for fighting over the most inane reasons that ended up with one or more individuals facing life changing charges.
I always asked the very young ones “Was that (insert stupid reason here) worth you going to jail, possibly facing prison time, losing your job and reputation over? Yes there are times that you just want to reach out and touch somebody (I mean reaallllyy touch) but it rarely worth it.

i dont agree with that. you were involved in this fight. the other man defending himself did just that–defended himself. he didn’t shoot or stab him. his own health contibuted to his death. this one will be interesting and worth fighting in court, depending on the charges they try to bring. Ok, it’s a homicide, we’ll see how it plays out.
OFF TOPIC (KIND OF)
While in class today the building in which I was in class had a fire and we were evacuated. This building is 10 or a couple more floors so you can imagine the how packed and chaotic the stairwells were especially since the lights were going out for periods of time. Well as I was outside some
said the following:
“There are some old people stuck on the 7th floor, I ain’t helping no damn old people or pregnant chicks, I do me first” and her friends laughed. I wanted to beat the living snot out of that piece of ****. How do you not help elderly people go down 7 flights of stairs in the DARK!!!
I went up there and helped the campus police bring down more than 10 alzheimer, disabled and very elderly physical therapy patients and NO ONE ELSE HELPED!!!!!! What is wrong with people

Don’t apologize, they need to feel shame. It really is not every man for himself these days. I get tired of stupid ppl. When I see ppl not moving over while driving when a police car or ambulance has it’s sirens on it pisses me off. I say out loud “you don’t know if they are going to your burning home or a wreck your family member just got into . Rant on, you did a great deed and no deed goes on not rewarded. You saved LIVES. She said that she was accompanying some of the elderly people which were patients at the school of occupational therapy at my school and she said that they were so mad but since she works on campus she is not allowed to say anything to the students. Now I understand when older folk say “this youngsters are not about nothing nowadays” because I am older than most students on campus but only by about 10 years.

I am 42 a mom of 3 kids in their early 20’s. My kids love ppl older than me and would never not walk out on anybody without knowing that they did not help out someone in need. This to me is triflin’ and we all need to make sure our kids would have more passion for others. A mom or a dad would push their child out of the way of a moving vehicle while just walking down the street. I have read many stories of Mothers and Fathers dying while pushing their child out of harms way, will throw them out of a burning home and die themselves. My brother really thinks that I am this “heroic” woman that just does what she does and saves the day for others. I told my brother that if I die It will be trying/saving someone else. He did not like our conversation and quickly changed the subject. I know that I do not leave anyone in a crisis if I happen to come across it and I have saved many ppl. I don’t know if some of the ppl I think I saved are alive or still together. There was a pregnant womam with a man(maybe the husband or the unborn childs father) they were arguing across the street from my house. I ran across the street so fast to tell the man that I was going to call 911 and that he better not put his hands on her. I did not know if he had a gun, taser or would beat my ass. I just know my brother said I darted so fast across the street with no shoes on that he was stunned. I do not like to see ppl who don’t help others. I am not saying my brother did not help. I was just quicker to respond. LOL. My brother always reminds me of what I did. It was just instinct, my brother helped me and our siblings after decades our mother died. He is my hero. You never leave anyone hanging.
@Texerican & Anna, I am 41 with 3 kids and the older I get the more immature ignorant, crazy and evil people become. You have to treat people at arms length and keep them away from your heart and mind.

i also saw a white, affluent dude get probation after being on the scene of a murder and hiding evidence but the black ones who do the same thing get the murder charge! i’ve learned a lot from that show.
for those of you with teens, there is a good book entitled “Ignorance Is No Defense: A Teenager’s Guide to GA Law”. It’s written by J. Tom Morgan, a GA attorney for teens to become familiar with the law and has numerous scenarios that show them how they can get caught up for fairly harmless reasons. you can google the website. it’s $15.
