In response to my post about the fighting Facebook teachers, loyal reader SunnyPA sent this link to a video on Facebook by Throw’d TV which focuses on Facebook breakups.
While this video approaches the subject of online social networks wreaking havoc on marriages from a comical point of view, the issue is a serious one.
Does your wife or husband have a Facebook page that you don’t know about? If a so-called “friend” sent you a Facebook link with the subject line “Is this your husband”? — and you were nowhere on his page and his status was “single,” would that be grounds for divorce?
Do you monitor your spouse’s Facebook and Twitter pages obsessively?
Do you have a Facebook page that your spouse doesn’t know about?

Ya. Facebook is joke. I deleted my account about 6 months ago. I find it quite juvenile. It’s sad that people now use to to cheat. SMDH
If Facebook is causing these types of problems in relationships, something was wrong from the very beginning. Facebook shouldn’t be this serious!!
Well,I’ve had my facebook for years with no problems ONLY added ppl I actually know and went to school with from elem-to colleges. When my boyfriend finally joined we’ve had no problems. I dont spy on his page and he doesn’t spy on mine. However, I would find it a little suspicious if he poked another chick all day. If you go looking you will find. I trust and dont go looking. I do have his passwords btw. As for Juvenile I would say thats Myspace, the pervs and the stalkers are there.

My husband and I both have accounts and we don’t have any drama…now I can’t say the same for other people we know but in reality their marriage was jacked from the beginning

Yes it’s breaking up relationships if people who are in committed relationships are up there lying. Some guy I didn’t know tried to holla at me on FB, I’m in a relationship so I shut it down quickly. Like 5 days later his WIFE contacted me through his account trying to cuss me out.
So I only think it breaks up relationships if people are not honest.
My husband and I have a shared Facebook and Myspace page, which is only used to keep in touch with Family and friends. People we actually know and like. No drama and I love Myspace more because you can actually delete it.
I’ve posted comments (nothing serious) on a couple of male friend’s walls and they would get deleted. When I asked why, they said it was because of their wives/girlfriends. They didn’t want them asking questions.

I’ve seen this one. I thought it was too funny. I have a page that is locked up tight, and I have to friend you, so I keeps the drama down.

Facebook is not that serious unless you make it. My hubby and I both have separate accounts and we just use it for short communication between family & friends. We did get a kick out of some of my hubby old flames (2) who sent messages that were not appropriate to a happily married man. Yes his status is married and I am in his photos on his page. I don’t sweat the small stuff because I am strong in my spot and he openly shares with me when those messages come cause he knows a sista would be out if he cross me. I have no tolerance for BS.
FB started off as a way of contacting folks you haven’t seen in awhile. Nine times out of ten, I’m getting friend requests from total strangers and and they seem to be mostly married men. it may be that my profile pic is rather provocative…..but that’s not an excuse to push up on a female and get at her…..

I’m on twitter and my husband doesn’t know about it, but my followers are all my family and female friends. I didn’t tell him b/c judges social networks so hard.

I can’t stand that Myspace page mess. It got real corny to me after a couple of months. I though Facebook would be the same way too, that’s why I don’t have an account. But my boyfriend does and all he talks to is old friends from school. No biggie.

I was late to jump on the FB bandwagon and I actually like it.. I found the video to be too funny.. Espcially, when I was dating a guy who said he was single and I asked him, if he was single why is his status complicated.. He explained and then changed it to single.. Whatever.. I know it’s not that serious. As for FB as a way to cheat, what else is new. Cheating has been around as long as the oldest profession has been around and like that oldest profession has evolved so has cheating..
My hubby has a page. I don’t go on it because I know me.I have not added him either. I’m just uncomfortable reading what his friends have to say, so I’d rather not even bother going on it. Once his ex chics finds out who I am or what I do, I know the drama will begin, so I just don’t visit.

I love my FB, we have great discussions and laughs…but of course I dont have a BF either so that goes without sayin….They had another video that was like this one, and the guy was lyin in the bed talkin about “update my status baby” Too funny!….for some people FB is another means to cheat without leavin the house
i have an account that says “married to” with my husband’s link; him too. i have his password but he doesn’t have mine. i do look at his page from time to time and he looks at mine. he had one problem with something i said to a guy once but that’s it. i think it can cause problems if there is jealousy or suspicion in the marriage.

My wife and I shared my Facebook account for about 6 months until she decided it was worth it to her to have one of her own. We trade messages to each other throughout the day. Only one “old flame” tried to reconnect but she was ignored. Her status updates go to my phone and mine go to hers.
People are always looking for something else or some one to place. People ruin relationships…the sites. Last i check..u control what u do on these sites….people need to get real

My bf and I both have FB pages. I’ve had mine since FB first came out. I use it to stay in touch with friends back home who I can’t just call up everyday. He just recently got his. I actually set his up. We have an openness policy so he has my password and vice versa. If FB ruins your relationship then it seems to me that the problem is not FB but the people in the relationship.
Facebook, myspace and twitter are a big joke. I found the page of the guy I was dating twice and he was conversating with ex-girlfriends and random chicks. When I got inside an read some of the stuff that he was saying it was ridiculous and of course his excuse was “it was just for fun and games”..”I was just BSing around”. I have always said that facebook and myspace is just the open door for people to get into trouble sooner or later because most people on theeir are doing stuff they don’t have no business doing anyway.

I have a FB account… my husband doesn’t. He says that he already talks to everyone he wants to keep in touch with. He knows about my account. He’s right there closeby when I’m on FB at home. Sometimes we talk about what ppl are saying on FB. I don’t know about other ppl, but my whole FB experience is pretty lame. LOL
I think it only breaks up relationships of insecure untrustworthy people. If you’re in a relationship in which you are secure in knowing that your mate is content with you and you alone, persons of the opposite sex commenting them, etc shouldn’t be a problem.
I knew facebook was from the devil! I want to delete my account so bad. Ppl on there wantin to fight and start stuff, the party promotions (I wish they play in some traffic) oh and the most annoying part is ppl updating every two minutes! Take that foolishness on twitter!
I do agree FB can break up relationships and friendships IF people are not honest! I recently got in touch with a guy from my childhood who just moved to Atlanta. Well, according to him he is staying with family. After reading his FB page his status says single. But from reading posted comments to his page, one chica kept referring to him as “babe this” and “babe that”, basically throwing her weight around letting his facebook friends know what the deal is. Upon further investigation and woman’s intuition, come to find out he is currently living with her and not family. Had he wanted to kept it %100 we could still be cool. Bottom line FB got him caught up.
I get what ya’ll are saying that the relationships already had problems, people control whats said etc but I agre with the post this extent.
With the latest technology which includes, facebook,twitter,myspace,caller id,x69 and CELLPHONES/TEXTING a lot of relationships are ending sooner than they would have without them. BUT its only sped up the inevitable. These people are not faithful and were being unfaithful before all this. All these things just make it that much easier to get caught.
Back in the day all you had to say was I was sleep. I was stuck in traffic, the phone was busy, I was at my granmamas house.If the other woman didn’t know you she just didn’t know you. You had no choice but to believe. I say kudos to busing cheater by any means necessary

This was funny! I don’t have a FB. I started a MS two years ago & was kinda into it…but it all just becames too time consuming. I’ve been on a friends’ FB page & found some ppl that I’d like to reconnect w/….but then thought if I ain’t been in contact wit yo a$$ in allllllll this time, ITS FOR A REASON! I hear from ppl thru fam & mutual friends like, “Tell her to get on FB so we can talk!” Ummmmmmm I have a phone & we do not have eachothers # FOR A REASON!
If u break up over FB ur relationship was already in trouble. I can see how it can affect a relationship though cuz some people have no respect and may leave a comment implying something thats not really there.
I thought this was hilarious when I saw this video on fb. It’s sad that people would let a social network come between them. My husband has this woman that pokes him everyday, all day, faithfully for the past year. It definitely depends on who you are and how strong your marriage is. People don’t have to respect your marriage. YOU have to respect your marriage. I don’t have ex boyfriends on my friend list, and he don’t put ex on his friend list. We not scared, we just don’t do it. Women like EVERYTHING he says, even when it clearly don’t make sense. I get that and keep it moving. I like fb.
Im gonna say heck it depends on that woman or man. If you allow to mess up your relationship it will, if you dont then it wont case closed….
I work internationally and got FB when work colleagues in the UK started using it. I use it for family and friends too or I did until my crackhead cousin got on and was cussing me out, not cool in front of the work folk. Now I got 2 FB accounts, one for work an one for the rest of my life. Ugh..lol. MS is just nasty and noise, I can’t deal with it at all and from a marketing standpoint, Twitter is freakin’ brilliant!!
