U.S. president Barack Hussein Obama apologized to former USDA employee Shirley Sherrod for abruptly terminating her.

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs squirmed and fidgeted as he took questions from the assembled White House press corps about the biggest White House scandal to date.

Gibbs said Obama was briefed on the matter yesterday morning, but we know he’s lying unless Obama doesn’t watch Fox News, which we know he does — religiously.

Obama’s press secretary, Robert Gibbs, used his Wednesday news briefing to apologize to Sherrod, saying, “Without a doubt, Miss Sherrod is owed an apology. I would do so on behalf of this administration.”

“Now that the full video is out there and Sherrod’s version of events is vindicated, Obama looks foolish, impulsive and reactive,” said Jane Hamsher, a prominent liberal blogger and frequent Obama critics. “And he has only empowered Breitbart, who will continue to employ the same tactics until someone stands up to him. You would hope the President of the United States could manage that.” Read More…

Good, She reminds me of my grandmother I wish her nothing but the best…

  • Anna

Did Obama have her pull to the side of the road and told her to resign via blackberry?

  • ohpretty1

Good @ her not taking their calls at this time. Let them sweat it out until you decide how you want your arse kissed Miss Sherrod. I want this apology to be replayed as much as the baseless claim of racism on her part. I won’t hold my breath.

S/N: Gibbs was talking as if he had a gun to his head. I don’t think I’ve observed him being this nervous before.

  • khandi25

I am glad they apologize. I still don’t understand why anyone would have rushed to judgement based on a snipit on Foxnews of all the news channels.. SMH !!

  • DeCori J

Mrs. Sherrod and her family are good people. I can’t believe they are going through this, but at least they’re trying to make it right now. They live in my hometown Albany, Ga. and I know her son. This family has a rich history in fighting for equality. They were part of the civil rights movement when the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) were registering voters in S. Georgia and standing up for minorities so we can enjoy the live we have today. The world is a better place because of her and her family!

This is a hard one to call. It’s a wonder if they actually acted under pressure with all the racial tension or if it was indeed a scandal. I don’t know what to say besides clearly the government can’t be THAT stupid to fire someone without knowing all the facts.

Common sense would tell just about anyone that there was more to the story, because who in their right mind would outright admit to being racist during a public event, especially someone in her position?

*rolls eyes* If I were her, I probably wouldn’t want to be back in the company of the USDA. I wouldn’t even be surprised if they already have a budget to pay her off for humiliating her the way they did.

  • MissGauzzz

it’s a shame the way they raked this woman over the coals, embarrassed and humiliated her! i wouldn’t take their damm calls either!

@soul… yep, if i were here i wouldn’t want to go back either! and any budget $$ they sat aside they’d pay me and then some! it’s ridiculous!

  • Daisy

@Anna I dont think he did but I am glad he apologized because he said he would make mistake and would apologize when he did so  Did you see teen mom last night?

    Good luck Ms/Mrs Sherrod

  • Shauny

When I heard what she said I was trying to figure out why she was fired

Definately a rush to judgement and I’m glad they apoligized. Faux is laughing their asses off at this

So is Tom Vilseck going to resign now? He did say that it was his decision to ask for her resignation.

I hope Mrs. Sherrod will never have to work another day in her life. $$

This just makes the Obama Adminstration look like straight up fools. I was not (as Sandra would say) a kool-aid drinker from the get go. I did NOT vote for Obama, and it’s because I just felt that there was something about him I couldn’t quite 100% trust…I don’t know, I can’t put my finger on it. But when I do, I will let y’all know exactly what it is. Anyway, I feel that this situation was just handled poorly, and if I were her, I wouldn’t take back that position. I would tell them where to stuff it, and have them give me a nice retirement payment plan

  • http://dahoneyhive.blogspot.com ryand91

Everything is Obama’s fault, huh? Obama did not ask for her resignation Tom Vislack requested her resignation and lied saying that the White House was calling for her resignation. Either way it was a rush to judgment, when the evidence was readily available that could have exonerated Mrs. Sherrod. Our government is a brunch of idiots that is controlled and bullied by the media.

Not to say everything is Obama’s fault, but guess what? As the leader of the country, everyone is looking to him for guidance, and for the transformation of any situation from a negative to a positive situation. All leaders have to learn how to be transformational leaders, which is something that I know Obama has learned before getting in office. Even if he didn’t fire her directly, the fact that the people that work under his direction is responsible for what has now become a “scandal”-everything will point back to him. If you are a manager (leader) of a McDonald’s restaurant, if something is wrong with the big macs in a specific restaurant, they aren’t going to blame the restaurant manager alone…they will blame the CEO of the company. #justsaying. I get what you are saying, but you know…he is the leader of the country so the fingers will point to him.

  • Musiqal1

@ryand91 I also agree that the government allows the media to control and bully them.

Mrs. Sherrod was among the group of people who sued the federal government on behalf of black farmers for discrimination and they won a $13 million settlement. Mrs. Sherrod and her husband received $300,000 from that settlement. :coffee:

Since he answers to Obama, someone in the Obama administration told him, “it’s your decision if you want to fire her, but I want her gone before the Glenn Beck show airs today.” Please Google this and you will see that the White House was in fear of what Glenn Beck would say. They worried more about him than the safety of an older woman who they ordered to pull over to the side of the road and text her resignation before the Glenn Beck show airs. The Obama administration is the worst in U.S. history.

MEANWHILE,the prez signed into law the most comprehensive financial regulatory overhaul since the great depression on wednesday. but nobody is talking about how he continues to carry out his plan of action.

all the talk about is just this poor, black lady who has been shat on by her boss (or obama like obama is sitting in the corner office on the same floor as her). as if YT ever cares when a black person is shat upon. now all of a sudden, there is YT outrage at obama. why? because they can blame this on obama and overshadow all of the strides he’s making in the white house. poor man can’t win for losing.

  • bama_n_jersey

Let me start off by saying that I voted for President Obama and I like him as the President.

What I don’t like is how he is always to quick to take action before he fully understands the situation. I know everyone is saying that he didn’t fire her, but there is no way he didn’t know what was going to take place. It is his job to know everything that is going on. This really makes him look bad and when he allows things like this to take place it gives the critics more ammo. It seems like he is trying so hard to please the right wing that he is sacrificing his beliefs. I have the same same questions that one of the people in the article asked, What happened to the Obama from the election days? It seems like he had more of a backbone and didn’t let what others thought rule what he thought.

Anyway, I still love my President though. I just wish he would toughen up and get that swag back that he once had. I don’t envy him though because he has to deal with so much and the White House duties are really aging him.

  • bama_n_jersey

@free…I agree with you on that. As long as he is President they will never say anything about the good things that he is doing. Why…because they don’t want him to have that much power.

Even though I don’t think he personnally gave the order to fire her, I do think he knew about it…..and even though the YT’s could care less about this black woman they are going to ride her being fired until everyone stops listening. They put the hook out there and his administration and the NAACP took the bait, just like the critics wanted them to. They knew that immediate action would be taken since we have been complaining about racism and here was our own being portrayed as one

And you know what I think Fox News blew this story up on purpose because they KNEW something good was going on so they had to overshadow it with this foolishness. All I can say is Fox News is gangsta and i ain’t mad at them because their plan was successfully carried out.

…but you know what, people would rather see something negative instead of something positive because clearly “positive things” are boring and not news worthy

Educate YOURSELVES and stop waiting for tv to tell you what’s going on…the dumbing down of America is frightening smh…

How this women was forced to pull over and resign via text is despicable . This morning on the Today show she asked for a personal call or contact from Obama b/c she felt he was responsible. She said “As a Obama being a black president, and I being the first African American to hold the position i once had , I just don’t understand why he didn’t investigate a little more in the situation”.

Pretty sad when there where so many signs that pointed to this women not being a racist! Don’t know what to think about Obama right now, but I still love my president… Morning everyone!

  • bama_n_jersey

    @Mamacita….I agree with you completely.

obama has to empower his secretaries to make decisions within their own administrations. so what if he knew about it? does he have time to sit and watch video of government employee speeches? if the usda secretary fired the woman, so be it. obama has to deal with the larger issues such as the war, the economy, etc. people say he isn’t doing anything but expect him to be involved in the day to day details of all government workers?

NOBODY watched the entire video, including the NAACP but this is like obama reached his hand down into the lady’s car and told her to pull over. he respected the decision of the person he put in place to run the agency. period. if the secretary made a bad decision, the secretary should apologize but obama should not continue to make himself responsible; he is on a higher level.

the problem is everybody tries to bring him down to our level; he should not have to manage a damn fight between a police officer and a professor! that’s whats assinine. accordingly, this lady does not report to him.

they are calling this the biggest scandal of his administration like they were f***ing or something! the whole thing just pisses me off.

EXACTLY! the man is actually doing the things he said he would do (at least the ones he can push through) but one fairly anonymous government worker gets fired and now there’s a scandal at the white house? c’mon man! you’re right tho, the damage is done.

So riddle me this, If you work at McDonald’s and you get fired by YOUR boss are you gonna run to the CEO of the company and blame him for YOUR boss firing you? NO! The CEO has delegated YOUR BOSS to make this decision because he has to run the company and has bigger fish to fry. Obama has certain channels and processes set up so that he doesn’t have to manage every decision. Just like any company there is a cjain of power that you must follow…

why should the president of the united states of america sit and watch a whole damn video of a speech she made? i want obama working on the war. i want him working on the economy. i want him working on illegal immigration. i want him working on education. i want him working on financial reform.

why do we pay the secretaries of various agencies if they are not empowered to act? if obama is responsible for government workers, what is the point of having secretaries?
