Slow News Day: Kanye Says Nicki Minaj Will Be No. 2 Rapper of All Time

:cosgin: @Truth and East I cosign on the Em part, wish it wasn’t true about Nicki. I tried to listen to a couple of her songs and features and just cause you have a decent flow doesn’t mean you should’ve got a deal. Her lyrics are garbage but because she’s pretty, gimicky and has all these popular people talking her up in interviews and putting her on their songs she keeps blowing up. But the kids buying music don’t care about lyrics they care about following trends and gimmicks. They want whoever can hold their attention for a few minutes but quality is out the window. Eminems last few albums did nothing for me except this last one BUT the white boy can rap, he can freestyle, ain’t nobody writing his ish, and when he gets off the bullshit he can kill a guest spot.
I’m with Man, Jay Z is overrated. Had Biggie and Pac not been killed he would’ve never blown up like he did. He’s had some good songs and albums but not consistently and nowhere near enough to be even remotely considered the GOAT dead or alive. If I had to choose I would say Biggie, Pac, Nas but I need lyrics and substance. E-40 doesn’t get the shine he should beyond out here. I love Eve cause she wrote her own stuff, held her own among dudes and didn’t have to resort to hoeing in every song. She fell off when she tried to go mainstream. Kim had great delivery even though Biggie was writing her stuff she could pull it off realistically. Foxy was good but crazy. Trina was better when she came out but she came out hoeing on the mic. Lauryn was good. Idk not to many other female rappers I could say are worthy of great and legendary titles at least not the ones who came out after the rappers back in the 80’s fell off and gave way to the hoeishness of the 90’s. No one told them you can only sell sex so longmTell me something other than some dumb ass slang words that’s gonna get picked up by YT and overused. What the hell is tooted and booted? Well I know but hearing that was a waste of my time. These artists today have no substance and no true staying power because they’re just fads give it 5 years and people will be saying Nicki who? And we’ll see her Soulja Boy and most of these other “artists” on one of those VHI where are they now shows.

I left out Kanye and Outkast (individual and together) I agree with Man and Kwall I love Cube just not his newer stuff so much and I fogot Scarface I haven’t listened to him in years so he didn’t come to mind.

Out of all these new “rappers” the only one I can see having long term success where they’re being discussed 10, 20 hell almost 30 years later in some cases is maybe maybe maybe Drake and SouljaBoy (no talent imo but the boy is smart he’ll still be around is some capacity even if its behind the scenes in a production/studio work capacity)

Renegade I have most of what you have but after 2001 I stopped supporting most rap that came out so my Ipod is like a 80-90 memorial with a few new tracks thrown in here and there. I listen to some but its got to be genius (at least compared to the majority out now) for me to spend money on it

@Chase, I don’t doubt he was doing big things before they died, I know he was BUT those two deaths left a hole in the industry and more than a few people came up and got bigger than they would have had that not happened. Jay was better back in the day when he had to work for it once Biggie died he didn’t have to work as hard and although his stuff was still cool back then it wasn’t as good as his beginning stuff just like his songs now can’t touch the ones that came out back in the 90’s. I’m not trying to take anything away from him just that he gets way more credit than he is due imo and had they not died when they did I don’t think that would’ve happened. No way anyone would call Jay Z the greatest with Biggie or Pac still alive

@East I know more than a few gangstas who were real and went to school, taking breaks from homework to slang, killed more than a few people but realized they needed an education or knew there was more to life than the streets and are sitting in corporate jobs in high end suits legit but will eff you up if you get stupid enough to make them mad enough. I get what you are saying though because Pac couldn’t back up any of the real hard ish he said. Most peoples attraction to him was the meaning behind his lyrics. He wasn’t just another dumb thug with a record deal. Dre is another fake one he was dancing in glitter but he had talent and couldn’t nobody touch his beats back then. You can’t compare Fatty to Pac though because Pac kept his own identity, he didn’t attach fake names and fake stories you could find on the internet, he kept his own image throught his career so while he may not have been a real gangster he was more real than fat ass Rick ross, Rozay, William theodore or whatever his real birthname is. Pac got through to a lot of people because underneath the hardness he tried to portray near the end he still dropped real knowledge in his music. Not every song but enough that he touched a lot of people. Plus no telling what he witnesses whether he was doing the dirt or not. Plenty of people come out the hood harder with more tales than others just because of what they witnesses while there. I have stories for days that would have people thinking I’m gangster as hell when all i was just a bystander who got lucky a stray bullet never came for my silly ass or I never caught a conspiracy case. But I’m blessed with a brain on me and God’s grace I was able to get out and never got truly caught up. Pacs appeal was he could reach so many and he did have the life experience to back it up even if he wasn’t the one doing the dirt plus that’s what I mean when I say he evolved. He would’ve stayed on top in my eyes because he was able to branch out and do other things, could speak on anything and still get respected

OTB no lol all my drugs are legal, prescribed and would go for more than $20 but thanks. Long story, they had to take the baby but found out it was ectopic and I had surgery yesterday I’ll be good though

East that’s true, I hate Ross so I can’t bear to have them compared in any way lol but I get what you’re saying. Pacs only crime that I can remember was the rape charge everybody conveniently forgets about and that wasn’t a gangsta crime just a bytch ass one. He wasn’t a thug, but I’m sure he witnessed a lot and that came out in his later music. But my favorite songs of his have always been when he was on his activist tip that’s what his calling was and I think had he not gotten in with Suge and had the industry not been consumed with gangsta ish he probably would’ve never went in that direction because it was a direct contradiction to his earlier work and who he was as a person jmo though

I didn’t think I wanted more kids, they told me I couldn’t have anymore and then it happened which through me off guard but made it that much harder cause this was my last chance to expand my already large group of kids. But it’ll get easier, I just wish the physical pain would go away cause I already have enough everyday pain
