Hello Sandra,
I am a college student at Columbia College Chicago majoring in Fashion Business with a minor in Journalism. I am an avid reader and blogger as well. My blog www.BrianaShani.com is a lifestyle blog that tackles real life situations and meant to provoke thought. With my quirky lingo and sexuality I like to think of myself as the real life Carrie Bradshaw. I would love to be featured on the Morning Glory section of your site because I think I have a great blend of intelligence and sexiness for any type of woman to respect. I have dreams of being a columnist for a women’s magazine, and eventually starting my own column. I believe its important not to keep yourself in a box, and use all your resources to be successful, and I will! I also am secretary of Black Student Union at my college. A would love to show my fellow young women how important it is to be in tune with all parts of who you are. I love myself as a women, African American, business women, student, etc. Thank you for your consideration!

um, she’s cute, but i’m concerned they she has a dead major, and a dead minor. Both of those areas topped the list a couple weeks ago as the most useless degrees.
I love and support the arts, but I dont believe anyone should ever major in them. We have to be realistic, unless you plan on teaching in that field. I was surprised journalism made that list, but it did. Theater, fashion, music, etc, any of those are a waste imo unless u plan on using the degree to teach.

Brianna is “hood fine.” She prolly get a lot of attention cause she thick, bright and look like she got a nice azz, but she’s not “model” material.
Although she doesn’t specifically say she wants to be a model, which begs the question, what’s the point of sending these pics in?
Columbia Class of 02′ HOOT! HOOT! Her mid section is quite large. She’s not fat all though. She could use some pilates and cardio 5 days a week. She’s cute, but she should’ve modeled a maxi dress or maybe jeans instead of something so unflattering. JMO

she is a nice looking young lady. I just hate when they’re the schit in their town or on their school campus and must then face the real world. It is then they realize a brisk reality.

So this is me playing Devil’s Advocate again. While I do see what you guys are saying about the pics. She seems to actually have a decent head on her shoulders.
I took the liberty of going to her blog and did a little “reading”. I really only skimmed through it but it’s nicely put together and some of the things she’s talking about are quite interesting.
In addittion, she has a few other pics on there of herself and she looks much better on there. There’s one of her in a bikini that looks MUCH better than what she submitted to SR.
The pics. she submitted are pretty whack and I’d just tell her like I told the other girl, learn how to pose and tone that azz up. Other than that, she’s better off than a lot of other people I’ve seen.

I can’t speak for everyone else but me personally I give credit where they are due, and I think the reason why most of us are reacting this way is because most of these morning glory photos don’t look like women are aspiring models, they come off as aspiring porn stars or video smuts and it doesn’t matter if you’re in college that is NOT impressive. They put themselves in the position to be criticized, ostracized and humiliated.

You, like everyone else, are entitled to your opinion. Honestly, I didn’t really big up the girl. I did say her blog was decent, that she needs to tone up and learn to pose and that I admire those that put themselves out there for other people to bash. That takes real guts.
However, I agree with what most of you are saying but I normally tend to see a silver lining in most things. That’s always been my character. Mansfield and Midlothian are cool areas. Plano and Allen has the best school districts though. It depends on what you are looking for!!!!! If you want to be central to everything Richardson or Plano would be best
Snooty it was all middle class but once they opened up the floodgates and allowed the section 8 recipients to move out here the ish hit the fan, but I don’t think there’s too many places in the DFW metroplex that don’t accept section 8 so it’s gotten to where it’s almost hood everywhere you go. I might need to consider moving to Sachse, I hear nice things about that city.

If you own property you have to apply with the housing authority to have your property put on section 8 you have to meet the requirements and they do yearly inspections. Upon each inspections they provide you with a list things that would need to be done in order for you to get approved. the money is guaranteed you receive it anywhere from the 3rd to the 5th of the month from the government. Advantages are you can charge market rate for the rent and the money is guaranteed…

Fashion Merchandising is not a useless degree. There are so many things you can do with it. I went to school for fashion merchandising and I became a buyer for major stores. I’ve been able to travel around the US and overseas to shop for clothes that you all wear on your backs. So no, it’s not useless

Fashion Merchandising is not a useless degree… if the market conditions were better and if the retail industry wasn’t struggling like it is now. But, the job you do (which is a great job) can be attained with a business degree as well. I had a job offer as a buyer years ago for Federated and I have a bachelor’s degree in finance… I don’t think a journalism degree is useless either, but I think most folks are talking about what these degrees can do for folks RIGHT NOW…once things pick up in our global economy, those degrees may be more marketable in the near future…

Ok that was fun!!! However I need to offer Briana some encouraging words and some food for thought like someone did for me back in the day. Your degree is your stepping stone into “Corporate America.” Without a degree (these days) a person is SOL (shyt outta luck) or will end up in the mailroom unless you know someone. You also need to take into consideration the accreditation that your school holds to make sure that your degree is actually worth something. There is nothing like paying for a degree to later find out that it’s as worthless as the paper that it’s printed on. If I interviewed you and researched your school’s site afterwards and found spelling errors, I would not hire you for a journalism position or even a receptionist for that matter.
Secondly, as previously mentioned (by the others) your majors are extremely important. First off, no one is knocking you for going to school
However, you are majoring in journalism. How many people do you see reading the newspaper or magazines anymore? Everything is online now and newspapers etc. will be extinct shortly, so unless its internet based, what’s the point of a journalism degree? U can also do fashion without a degree. U see all these so called stylist working without degrees in the field. So if you are going to get a degree, major in something that will be beneficial long term. It’s similar to getting a degree in Real Estate knowing the market is screwed and will not rebound anytime soon. You can’t go wrong with Business Admin, Accounting, IT, Medical, etc. Unless u plan to teach journalism it’s pointless. My receptionist has a Masters degree in Literature, but she has a better salary in Administrative Support then teaching at this point.
Lastly, your approach… u got clowned today because you sent in a bogus hood rat pic claiming to be on top of your game. However, when you know better, you tend to do better. No “successful” woman is going to send a lingerie pic to a blog in hopes of getting noticed for whatever reason. When you are on your shyt, u don’t have to tell anyone, it will show!
Sorry we went it on u today but u set yourself up (and Sandra helped u). Now change that damn major, find a real school, and really stand on your shyt!

@ Feline, I think most people on here don’t understand exactly what Fashion Merchandising degree is. They think it has to do with styling photoshoots or music videos when in fact it doesn’t. Fashion Merchandising degree focuses more on the business side of fashion. You can do so much with Fashion Merchandising because fashion will ALWAYS be around. You’ll always need buyers, you will always need presidents and managers for showrooms, you will always need showroom salespeople, etc. Most fashion companies won’t even look at you without a degree in or around that field. And you’re right, you can get by with a business degree.
People go to school to focus on a passion. The field of medicine will always be around, but why would I be a doctor or nurse if that’s not my passion? Journalism degree is great to have especially if you like to write. If you have a degree in journalism, you may be better qualified than someone who doesn’t and even if they have a blog. Just because some aspects of it is not doing so well now, doesn’t mean that it won’t do well in the near future. You don’t think that these prestigious publishing companies like Vogue hire people without journalism degrees or some type of degrees in the arts? Some of these people on here need to really do research before writing their opinions.
