Yesterday, one of my loyal readers, EB, posted a link to a short film titled ‘The Strange Thing About the Johnsons’.
At first I wasn’t going to post the film because the subject matter is so disturbing that it might cause mental anguish in some of my readers. But after speaking with a friend last night, I decided to post this film and use it as a teachable moment.
Without giving away too much of the plot (for those of you who want to see it), let’s just say that this film can only be categorized as a “dark comedy” because it is laughable.
There is a good reason why we can only access 10% of our brain power. The brain has many defense mechanisms in place to protect itself (and you) from the type of activity that is depicted in this film.
The young man in this film would have to circumvent those defense mechanisms in his brain to be able to do what he does. And as a result, he would be psychologically disturbed. It would not be a secret to anyone around him that he was psychotic.
The scene where the young man appears to be a normal, healthy adult about to get married would never happen in real life.
This is the reason why men like Usher Raymond, who are stuck in the Oedipus complex phase, seek out older women for sexual gratification — because the alternative would be psychological harmful.
So as you watch this film, take it for what it is: a comedy that sprang from the overactive imagination of a man (the director) who has a limited understanding of how the brain works.
i kept hearing about this film. i will watch the video when i get home

Please read my post first so you won’t get upset.
Yeah, I’ll have to watch this when I get home…thanks Sandra!
I watched this last night actually. At first I thought it was really disturbing then I found myself laughing all the way through. I totally agree with you that this is a story derived from an overly imaginative man. If it had been the father molesting the son I probably would have been offended and found it really disturbing but when the son was the one to step in the shoes of the molester I was dying laughing because it’s just so far fetched. I found the movie entertaining though.
I might have to check this out
@ jazzyiest: Great minds think alike!
I laughed through this film as well because the plot was so ridiculous.
This film is so sickening… Please tell me this was not produced and directed by a black person????
I saw this the other day. It’s crazy but sad.
(debates on whether or not I want to watch this)
I’m not easily offended or disturbed but I don’t know…
@BlackBeauti… Is that a lacefront wig in your gravi?
@Jazzy
Hey girl…
IT was produced by a white guy (film student) who was told to make a film about the most taboo thing he could think of and this is what he came up with.
Saw it the other day on Jia’s website. Wanted to snort a line of coke after watching it…
But watched it again and realized where the student was coming from when he termed it a “comedy.”
Well folks I’m out ! 4pm here already.
Later guys
psp :wave: <— thanksgiving menu, what u bringin?
I’m going to check this video out tonight because now I’m curious. I hope I’m able to watch it bc everyone who has seen it pretty much has the same response. O-o
Can’t be no worse then that link Sandra posted a few years back for that movie human centipede.
@ Minx
Hey mama!!!!
it’s been a minute right? LOL I lurk from time to time but don’t actually post as much anymore.
It’s a lacefront
@ AndThenIHitMyDougie:
thanks for that background story. The film student should change fields. Some scenes did not seem to relate to each other, and other scenes (such as wedding scene sodomy and the wife turning up the volume on the TV) just didn’t make sense at all.
I watched this yesterday. I didn’t really see the comedy
It was totally far fetched and ridiculous but funny?
Maybe I just don’t the humor in rape, no matter what the situation is.
The short film was done for a thesis. It was weird at first but after thinking about it I definitely saw the satire. It was obviously done this way to portray the helplessness of abuse victims in a different light. But shallow minds can only see what’s in front of them…

Yeah Im glad my brain will protect me from trying to comprehend or find the humor in this #GROSS
@BlackBeauti.. Thanks.
@CandiPants… I’m on soda, water, and the good plastic flatware. You gotta have credentials and references on both sides of my family to get assigned to cook something.
@Hey Vero… :confused:
Anyway so not to make this about race but its not taboo for a white family to do this either

@Sandra
The wife/mother knew what was going on, (the father getting raped) which is why she turned up the volume on the tv. Same thing as you hearing your neighbors in your apartment downstairs fukking or arguing and you don’t really wanna hear it, you turn up the volume on your stereo or tv and act like it’s not happening.

@Choco
The reason it is taboo is because most Blacks will barely speak out about the REAL molestation/incest/rape going on in the family with the older adult being the perp. So if this was done by a white family, it would almost seem “possible” because we ALL tend to think the CRAZIEST sh*t is done by Whites. It wouldn’t be as shocking if done by them, even if we have NEVER heard of it.
So, the family being BLACK….definitely made it work better and seem more socially “taboo.”
I don’t know why I can’t find comedy in it. It became a lil too much after 9 mins for me. I’m not easily disturbed by things but that bathtub scene was well……..a bit much.

I can’t sit and watch the video at work but I was trying to listen and I guess I’m not getting the full effect.
Can someone tell me exactly what happened?
Seems to be much ado about nothing to me.

If that’s the case why did she act as if that was all news to her when the father died? This is why that scene made no sense.
Edited: to add that the last scene made no sense either. When she questioned the son about the father crying after the prom. She’s concerned about the dad crying but she turns the volume up when he’s screaming his head off in the bathroom?
I’m with Rene on this. It’s weird but I get it.
@Man
You are on your own cuz I don’t wanna watch it and the bits that I’m hearing is making my stomach quiver
I’ll watch later. The “Welcome”mat says “HELP”.
Did anyone else see the Game on twitter clowning Olivia saying she still trying to pass herself off as a female because her real name was Oliver.
After I watched it the 2nd time, I could see the humor in it. It’s definitely a “dark comedy” though, so I understand if not everybody gets it.
He should get an award for it though because he DEFINITELY completed the assignment well. His name is Ari something…. forgot. Jia had a whole interview with him about the lil movie and everything.
@Dougie The Sandusky incident should be proof that whites hide rape and molestation JUST AS MUCH as any other race. I don’t see what that has to do with it.
—–
Oh i guess the funny part was him being raped in the tub? Or maybe when the mother stabbed the son to death? Or maybe when the father ran into the street and was killed?
Yeah, totally hilarious
@Man
*spoiler alert*
Son rapes father repeatedly.
Mother acts like she has no idea is it happening.
Father dies. Son dies.
Everything falls to sh*t.
But I also turned away at the worst parts…
I cant see the Video but Ive heard about this movie… Its one of those things I would have to see for myself to comment on.
Between the man comitting suicide after marrying, that awful as fukk sweater and now this post my azz need a spiritual cleansing cause this chit is depressing.
Sandra I can’t see the WHOLE video where can you watch it at? my job blocked your video
@Mamacita
No- ya’ll are missing it. Think about some of the most heinous sh*t ever done…say, “Jeffrey Dahmer.” As soon as that story broke, MOST BLACK FOLKS just KNEW it was a White guy because according to a lot of us, only WHITES do the most crazy, heinous sh*t.
The movie isn’t taboo just because of the molestation, it’s about what kind of family the molestation is happening to. It’s a Black family. That has it ALL together. They’re damn near the Cosby’s. See how that makes it almost taboo?
If it was a White family, living in the backwoods of Arkansas, in a trailer park, this would probably be easier to swalloe because more folks would be able to see: “yeah, I can see them doing some sh*t like that.”
This is not a film to be taken literally. You have to analyze BEYOND what is just being shown and look at the implications of the family being used for the film.
After all of this/that I’m about to go home and hug and kiss my daughter (we are NOT the Johnsons)….LOL <— see what I did there
Yall have a good day.
@Chocolate Diva
I saw that. I guess when the ish hit the fan with him and G Unit she was still apart of that crew.
Game is also the one who slept with Gloria from BBW LA not Gilbert. He admitted in an interview.
Huh?
Okay umm Bey released a teaser to her Dance for You song @Sandra.
Way better post than this. Plus, she playing off your “showgirl/burlesque dancer” comments.

If you are a person who listens to songs like “Brown Sugar” (by Dangelo) or O’Jays “Brandy” and really thinks either of the songs is about a woman, then you probably will NOT understand the implications behind this short film.
You can’t just look at the trees and not see the forest as well.
@OTB
For real?! Dance for You is my sh*t!!! I will hit a pole QUICK to that song!!
Game should sit his Elmer Fudd looking azz down! He’s so effn cheesy and has no respect for his wife / fiance! I would hate for my man to be on twitter running his faggy mouth about another broad then confirming he eff’d GLORIA chit like that will make me sideye a mofo and quietly start packing :coffe:

@ Choco: we all know that molestation occurs in a lot of families. But THIS type of molestation is extremely rare for an adult, even in the animal kingdom. It just doesn’t happen unless the perpetrator is seriously ill.
I remember a case of a psychotic boy who had sex with his mother because she told him that it was normal.
Yeah Game is what we call round these parts a “Pussy Nicca”. Azzhole always popping them dick suckers off when he needs to be concentrating on his failing rap career.
Oh…And Isaiah got what he deserved too. Sick fcker.

Just WOW!….and the end???!!
I need to leave work right now and go have a drink…..

DOUGIE, DID THAT NIGGA GO “YOU KNOW WHO I FEEL ABOUT LOCKED DOORS??”
Ok, so I watched it here at work….TWISTED….but I “get it”, if that makes any sense…
Again, even though it’s been labeled a “dark comedy” I see it more as satire.
I think the humor lies in the absurdity of the father being the victim and not the son. The son’s justifications and rationalizations for his behavior seem ridiculous in this context when they should be considered ridiculous in ANY context. Or maybe I’ve completely missed the point being made here.
NONE OF YOU shall approach to any that is near of kin to him, to uncover their nakedness: I am the LORD.
7 The nakedness of thy father, or the nakedness of thy mother, shalt thou not uncover: she is thy mother; thou shalt not uncover her nakedness.
8 The nakedness of thy father’s wife shalt thou not uncover: it is thy father’s nakedness.
9 The nakedness of thy sister, the daughter of thy father, or daughter of thy mother, whether she be born at home, or born abroad, even their nakedness thou shalt not uncover.
10 The nakedness of thy son’s daughter, or of thy daughter’s daughter, even their nakedness thou shalt not uncover: for theirs is thine own nakedness.
11 The nakedness of thy father’s wife’s daughter, begotten of thy father, she is thy sister, thou shalt not uncover her nakedness.
12 Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy father’s sister: she is thy father’s near kinswoman.
13 Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy mother’s sister: for she is thy mother’s near kinswoman.
14 Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy father’s brother, thou shalt not approach to his wife: she is thine aunt.
15 Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy daughter in law: she is thy son’s wife; thou shalt not uncover her nakedness.
16 Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy brother’s wife: it is thy brother’s nakedness.
17 Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of a woman and her daughter, neither shalt thou take her son’s daughter, or her daughter’s daughter, to uncover her nakedness; for they are her near kinswomen: it is wickedness.
18 Neither shalt thou take a wife to her sister, to vex her, to uncover her nakedness, beside the other in her life time.
19 Also thou shalt not approach unto a woman to uncover her nakedness, as long as she is put apart for her uncleanness.
20 Moreover thou shalt not lie carnally with thy neighbour’s wife, to defile thyself with her.
21 And thou shalt not let any of thy seed pass through the fire to Molech, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I am the LORD.
22 Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.
23 Neither shalt thou lie with any beast to defile thyself therewith: neither shall any woman stand before a beast to lie down thereto: it is confusion.
24 Defile not ye yourselves in any of these things: for in all these the nations are defiled which I cast out before you:
25 And the land is defiled: therefore I do visit the iniquity thereof upon it, and the land itself vomiteth out her inhabitants.
26 Ye shall therefore keep my statutes and my judgments, and shall not commit any of these abominations; neither any of your own nation, nor any stranger that sojourneth among you:
27 (For all these abominations have the men of the land done, which were before you, and the land is defiled;)
28 That the land spue not you out also, when ye defile it, as it spued out the nations that were before you.
29 For whosoever shall commit any of these abominations, even the souls that commit them shall be cut off from among their people.
30 Therefore shall ye keep mine ordinance, that ye commit not any one of these abominable customs, which were committed before you, and that ye defile not yourselves therein: I am the LORD your God.

Does it say something about me that I didn’t find it “disturbing?” I guess the way Sandra prefaced it I thought it would be worse.
@ Choco – RIGHT! You see me just “blinking” @ first, then a bish tried to clarify some thangs!
Well, I still find it strange that one’s mind would work like that and ee’m do a short film like this!
otb there is a bey post, it has begun
@Tatted
I seen their son on MediaFakeout and he looks just like her. So happy that it seems none of his kids got his RAT gene.
BAD PARROT
A young man named John received a parrot as a gift. The parrot had a bad attitude and an even worse vocabulary.
Every word out of the bird’s mouth was rude, obnoxious and laced with profanity.
John tried and tried to change the bird’s attitude by consistently saying only polite words, playing soft music and anything else he could think of to ‘clean up’ the bird’s vocabulary.
Finally, John was fed up and he yelled at the parrot. The parrot yelled back. John shook the parrot and the parrot got angrier and even more rude. John, in desperation, threw up his hand, grabbed the bird and put him in the freezer. For a few minutes the parrot squawked and kicked and screamed.
Then suddenly there was total quiet. Not a peep was heard for over a minute.
Fearing that he’d hurt the parrot, John quickly opened the door to the freezer.. The parrot calmly stepped out onto John’s outstretched arms and said “I believe I may have offended you with my rude language and actions. I’m sincerely remorseful for my inappropriate transgressions and I fully intend to do everything I can to correct my rude and unforgivable behavior.”
John was stunned at the change in the bird’s attitude.
As he was about to ask the parrot what had made such a dramatic change in his behavior, the bird spoke-up, very softly,
“May I ask what the turkey did?”
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
@OTB
I slipped. My bad.
The sad thing truly is that this chit goes on everyday in someone’s home that why I feel there should be no humor when you are discussing someone being violated in any type of way but hey that’s me.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
RIGHT! If only he knew what he was calling “normal” during their talk back in the day!
If it was a White family, living in the backwoods of Arkansas, in a trailer park…
Porn doesn’t have anything to do with this. It wasn’t about the sex; it wasn’t meant to titillate/stimulate. I don’t see the comparison.
I wasnt comparing any of this movie to porn… I was saying that toward the comments of understanding or not understanding…. and of course toward you saying nevermind like you wanted to just move on from it… It was just to create a segue way.
“May I ask what the turkey did?”
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
I think the movie shows how important communication is. The dad and son had a miscommunication. When the dad said “everybody does it” when talking to the son about masturbating, I think the son thought the dad had feelings for him and the dad masturbated to his pic too. The movie was disturbing though. The son looked like Tyler Perry to me.
I for some reason don’t actually believe this has happened in anybody’s home. If it was molestation the way it normally occurs, there would be nothing even remotely funny about this….but because this is sooo absurd, I can see the humor.
And it’s not about molestation…it’s a son raping his father. Just straight RAPE, no molestation.
DYMOND!!
Join the club.
This chit look cray as heyul!
i looked at it for a few minutes w/o volume, i cant wait to get home and watch it in its entirety
I actually like this film. I think it brought up a controversial subject matter in a decent way while not being overly exploitative.I do remember hearing about a man who was arrested for raping his mother a few weeks ago, so the idea of a child being a sexual predator is not that far fetched.
:hugs: You are right how important communication is and discl. I haven’t watched it but I see what you’re saying something as simple as it’s normal gets all kinds misconstrued! FUKING TWISTED EXAMPLE
I think the humor lies in the absurdity of the father being the victim and not the son.
I’m telling you, the comedy comes in where the supposed abuser has created a monster…and at first I wondered if his dad knew he was jacking off to a picture of him, it almost seemed like he didn’t know….like we never actually SAW the father abusing him. The son telling the father that he “started” this could have just been referencing the talk about how masturbating is normal…him crying on the way home from the prom could have been from the son raping him….I’m just saying this as food for thought…think about what you DIDN’T see in the film…
Hey YSo
Cfreeeeee
Just straight RAPE, no molestation.
Okay Sexual Abuse is that more appropriate Im not gonna watch it so Im good I don’t need to try and process that chit outta of my mind
This sounds like a film I’ll probably skip
Reminiscent of John Waters’s movies also categorized as dark comedy
I saw human centipede too. Well I stopped watching after he made the human centepide and put it in the cage
I couldn’t watch the rest
Choco
hey lover
@SANDRA
I freelance. Call me.
Yeah that was pretty darn disturbing; can’t say I found any humor (other than some bad acting) in it at all. I’m certain there are plenty families where parents are being raped and abused by their own children; black families, white families, and all.
Tatted Diva says:
i’m sure this happens in someone’s home.
Molestation occurs a lot in people’s homes, but it’s almost always older family members assaulting younger members. This type of molestation in the film is extremely rare. This is one of those taboos that the brain won’t tolerate on a conscious level because it will cause you to snap. So it’s all subconscious. That’s why men like Usher sleeps with older women instead of his mother.
It’s extremely rare. I don’t even have to read up on him to know that the son is psychologically disturbed.
um I saw the movie and thought it was very good, I thought the symbolism and the story telling in what we didn’t see was clever, I dnt think it makes sense the mother would ignore the rape if she was so bothered by it, it wasn’t like they were snuck off sumwhere, he broke down the door and the father was screaming like a woman, but I also dnt think its far fetched to have an incest relationship where the child/victim is convinced they are in love with the predator and for the pedophile to feel remorseful after he created a monster, dnt most abused kids end up turning themselves??
I felt like the daddy was a punk, and shoulda had way more authority and conviction witihn his household, the mama was the only one who ended up taking care of business and treating the son like he was the child instead of some bully, I don’t like how they didn’t make her more upset that she was married to a man that could lay a finger on her child, especially a male. my step sister is a social worker and has told me stories before of a daughter being abused sexually by the father, and know one thought anything of how the daughter doted on the father, and the daughter was convinced she was in love, he had been touching her since she was like 9 yr old.
*smh*
I WATCHED A SNIPPET of it and I DON’T WANT TO UNDERSTAND IT …..it is simply a pedophile’s fantasy played out into making people think it is funny or okay because it places the blame on the child by portraying HIM as the abuser to rationalize the sick,demented phuckery…. don’t LAUGH look deeper… and while it may be satire or humor to release it in the wake of the Penn State and other cases of MINORITY boys being abused is in poor taste… TRUST me the timing is poetic and the family HAPPENS to be black…. hmmmm
OMG DYMOND!!!
Give it to me Fay! mmm hmmm
The rest of the FAM, Sup to ya
and the one who wrote the movie is alabaster!
So Sandra you are saying that the humor is where the son is the one raping his dad? I actually know a son who raped his dad. His dad subsequently suffered a heart attack from years of abuse from both of his children. So I do know that these types of situations occur. Nothing funny about them at all. Pretty damn sick. And ANYBODY who rapes a person has to be psychologically crazy no matter who (man, woman, or child). SMH
The only really thing somewhat funny about this film is the characters and how they looked. lmao… sorry but #ican’t
i saw this on WSHH last night and all i can say is that i was disturbed watching this
My thoughts EXACTLY
Finally, watched this. Although I didnt find any humor in it, I did find symbolism. It was as if I were watching the lives of many abused children and the certain scenarios they go through daily with abusive parents. Even in the end when she killed her son, same as what a mother may have done to her child’s abuser.
I guess, maybe the release time of the video was terrible, but the video itself sends a strong message. I feel like all and all people need to be more conscious and aware of what is going on within their communities.
I will say that I was disturbed in the beginning of the movie. Yes. Sex is a touchy subject for parent and child and you definitely don’t want your child to think as sex as something bad. It was disturbing to see that he was relieving himself with a picture of his own father. That’s when I was like WHOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
The kid who wrote this definitely has a twisted imagination. But the story did keep me glued to the screen. Some parts were a bit hilarious but sick at the same time. I just couldn’t get over some of the scenes in it. My mouth was wide open for almost the whole thing.
This is some twisted mess right here
I mean to even wrap your mind around this bullshit, but oan those facial expressions on son and the dad face
sickums!
damn. i actually watched the whole thing. it doesn’t come off as a comedy to me AT ALL. i only laughed when dad was trying to hit the big red X on the computer to bring down the screen cause i’ve done that before!
when you see past the irony, it’s actually a very compelling piece of work. kinda like when men say they were raped. society doesn’t believe it’s possible. the backgrounds, settings, and everything were on point.
ok, reading yall posts are making me laugh thinking back at some of the lines but i ain’t watching this shyt again.
child on parent rape DOES happen. parents DO ignore/suffer other parents/significant others raping their children. spouses DO know their spouses are sick/cheaters/rapists.
nothing in this story is absurd. it was dramatic as hell but not farfetched at all. the actors were good too.
Wish I got to see the actual sex I bet the son was really stroking that black ass.
