The 20-year-old maintenance man who pleaded guilty to killing 7-year-old Jorelys Rivera last month was found dead in his cell of an apparent suicide.

Ryun Brunn was arrested on Dec. 7, 2011 and charged with murdering Jorelys who was reported missing by her mother on Dec. 2.

Jorelys was last seen playing with other children in the playground of the apartment complex where she lived. Brunn was hired as a maintenance man at the apartment complex in Nov. 2011. He bragged on facebook about living rent free at the complex.

A Georgia Department of Corrections spokesman said Brunn was found unresponsive in his cell at 4:15 pm, reports Channel 2 Action News. It isn't clear if Brunn was on suicide watch at the time.

Brunn appeared in a Cherokee County courtroom on Tuesday and coldly recounted how he committed the crime. Brunn said after he molested the child, he slashed the girl's throat with a knife and beat her in the head with her own roller skate. Brunn wrapped the girl's body and dumped her in a trash compactor.

"I never had an idea of killing a child in my life ... I was just so terrified and scared. I didn't want her to tell her mom and dad on me and I just ... I cut her," Brunn said. Source

Brunn pleaded guilty to murder and child molestation charges, among other offenses. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Brunn said he wrote a note and taped it to the trash bin, directing police to the child's body inside the trash compactor. But it took another 3 days before the body was found. Police matched Brunn's handwriting with the handwriting on the note.

The case attracted national attention, and the Canton police department's investigative procedures were scrutinized in the wake of the girl's death. Canton police initially thought the 7-year-old was a runaway.

Thursday, Canton police Chief Jeff Lance resigned after an investigative report found that his police department violated its own policies.

  • Roc

    @ Daisy...who CARES if he was killed? Georgia has the death penalty and he shoud have receieved it.

    This was an innocent child. He chose to take that life. Read the details on the case. He lured he in by telling her that he had one of her skates and then BEAT her in the head with it.

    As a parent I wouldn't thin his cowardice was sufficient.

    I know that you want to have children from your posts and you will learn that unconditional love when you have a child.

    Yeah, I couldn't care less about an apology. It doesn't undo the sick things he did to her and it doesn't restore or replace her life.

  • Roc

    Oh and @ Sandra...fluck leaving a suicide note. He said he was "sorry"? Big deal? He MURDERED their child. Fluck an apology.

  • Daisy

    @Roc PAUSE I didn't say I "cared" or anybody should "CARE" if he was killed I just asked a simple question #thatisall

  • Daisy

    Apologies matter to some people even in murder cases. I have heard plenty of victims families comment on how they did not even receive an apology. Different strokes for different folks.

    he is a coward,.. wish he would have spent his time in jail, still no justice for the family

  • Aryanna

    @ Daisy I agree.. sometimes being the families just wanna know.. do you even care that you took our loved one's life. Are you even sorry? Yeah we know you did what you did.. but are you that cold hearted that after its all said and done.. you still acting like nothing went down. I think he is still an azz and I hate the dealth penalty. I think thats an easy way out. Letting these murders rot in jail is the best punishment. Living everyday knowing the world is moving with out them would help.. them knowing that that is where they will take their last breath would be great. I was never against the death penalty

    @ Roc: he didn't leave a suicide note. If you'd read my post you would know that he left a note telling the police where her body was. But it still took them 3 days to find her. I'm just saying he didn't have to leave the note, but he did because of his conscience.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZFkp4d_tKA&feature=related Christi ain’t a killer… but don’t push me

    Ha! Some of you must not know any "lifers" or "long timers". A person spending the rest of their life or most of their life in prison isn't as horrible as people think. Especially not for a guilty person. People adapt to prison. They have a lot of freedoms there. They can take classes, work jobs, learn trades, workout,go outside, stay inside, get visits, have pen pals, see family and friends. They can even get their favorite foods. They can also have sex. It's a frickin camp.

  • Aryanna

    Yeah but everything you named aint too much of nothing compared to your freedom. They never really get to see their real family. If they do they are having sex with men... and lets be honest.. I dont care how they accomodate you.. that will never compare to being able to do what you want when you want. They are being told when to take classes, when to work their jobs.. when to see their family and friends. On top of that.. its more dangerous to be in jail then out of jail. Plus, speaking from a Bible perspective, I dont think we should have the right to say when someone's life should end.. but it does say that everyone has to obey the lwas of the land.. so jail is still cool with me.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZFkp4d_tKA&feature=related Christi ain’t a killer… but don’t push me

    Aryanna, you are thinking of people who actually care about their freedom and try to avoid losing it. And even in what we know as "freedom" we are told what jobs we can work etc. Nobody really gets to do what they want, when, where and how. Not for real. So to be put into a prison isn't too much different and doesn't take too long to adapt to. In many cases, people live better incarcerated than when they were free. Some people don't care what gender they sex as long as they get it and some prisons allow conjugal visits. Please.

  • Ms.kaylamomma

    We were thinking alike @Daisy.

    Oh wow, @Roc, I agree he should have received the death penalty. I often wonder what constitutes a person receiving the death penalty vs life in prison. This was one of those cases that I just KNEW he would but then I read he didn't.

  • Aryanna

    @Christ Please! If people went in those jails and asked the inmates would they rather be on the outside vs staying in their "adapted home".. They will trade that shyt with the quickness. I dont wanna hear that bullshyt. They adapt to it be/c they have no other choice... but it still aint like having your freedom.. Fuxx outta here.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZFkp4d_tKA&feature=related Christi ain’t a killer… but don’t push me

    Lol@Aryanna getting mad. Why don't you ask someone? Why do you think people that actually get out go back so much or quickly? You think it's because they hate it so much? If jail/loss of "freedom" was really so horrible then there'd be no repeat offenders. You can stay.

  • Aryanna

    LOL @Christi confusing me with getting mad vs lighting her axx up. People go in and out of jail so much for the same reason they commit sin. The consequence doesnt feel too good.. but they have become addicted to whatever sin they are doing. Same reason ppl do drugs.. it feels good doing it.. but the after math and them withdrawls that u get from it ,aint too fun. My uncle has been to jail at least 6 or 7 times.. I know for a fact.. he just wont do right.. but everytime he in there.. he looking stupid be/c he is missing out on his kids life... and I tell you what. if jail is so fun.. ask them repeat offenders why when the police on their azz, why do they run like hell. or why everybody snitching? cuz they tryna knock that time down.... why do majority of them hang themselves? Cuz that shyt aint that fun despite how u tryna make it... roll over and shut it down.

  • Roc

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    I agree no matter who say what I don't give a d@mn how you put it NO one wants to do any kind of time no matter how they adapt. Yes, we in the "free" world are told what time to go to work, class etc but damn*t when we are done with that for the day we do as we please. Aint no way in the h*ll anyone going to make me think otherwise that jail is just a walk in the park and cons love it so much. One of the reasons many go back is because once they are released people still try to hold their crimes against them instead of understanding they've paid their debt to society and giving them a second chance. If jail is such an "ease" Christi go trade places with someone in there and see how fast they knock your arse down trying to get in your shoes :rolleyes:
    there are usually some other conditions of the crime or the person's criminal history that have to meet. unfortunately, we can't put every child rapist to death because prosecution, incarceration, and defense (for appeals) is expensive and we don't have that many death penalty defense attorneys in georgia. there may be a lawsuit about this coming up soon.
  • NaijaGal
    He didn't receive the death penalty b/c there was no trial...he plead guilty...had the prosecution refused his plea, then they would have taken it to trial where they could request the death penalty as a sentence...I'm sure they decided the cost of trials and such wasn't worth it
    I don't like Dr. Drew. He should stick to Celebrity Rehab. Last night on his show, his first segment was about missing (minorities) and how they don't get any shine.
