TMZ.com reports Yvette Wilson, one of the stars of “Moesha,” died Thursday following a long battle with cervical cancer. She was 48.
Wilson, played Moesha’s friend Andell Wilkerson through 5 seasons of the hit show — and she played the same role in the spinoff “The Parkers.”
Wilson’s cancer was Stage 4 when she passed away.
Her “Moesha” co-star Shar Jackson tweeted, “F*ck Cancer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh God. My heart is soooo unbelievably broken. I wanna thank all my tweeties for their prayers but God has chosen to take my sister Yvette home.”

This is sad. Last I saw her she was gleaming about her record label. I hope she is at peace. Folks have been directing anger at her so called celebrity friends for not donating or helping fund her fight against cervical cancer. However we dont know what happened. We dont know if her former costars even knew she had cancer, let alone was running out of money fighting it. The news was only made public last month. Hollywood is a big place. If the blogs and the local news werent reporting it…I logged on and donated when I heard, but I only heard by chance,,,And online at that. That disturbs me that she had to reach oout like that,,,Also disturbs me that the money wasnt raised in a few days. That Jespanic man in Fl received hundreds of thousands for killing a Black boy, but a Black woman who entertained many of us for damn near 10yrs on tv received only pennies. I guess its only normal to be angry. She was young, and this just came out of left field. IDK. Sag offers 2 different health plans, and neither are sh*t. Im sure residual checks kept her eligible for the top tier plan over the years, but…I just dont know. One day they announce shes fighting for her life, next shes gone. Again I hope she is at peace.

@Anna I’m sure she was eligible. All it takes is a certain amt generated per year. With both shows rerunning she probably qualified for the best plan they offer, which isn’t much…They have a great rehab program offered, but if you aint drugged out…Who knows if she had it through Sag, and if she did was it enough? So many questions…One day she’s sick and going to beat it, the next…Was she still married? Wheres her hubby/business partner? I have lots of questions. She was at an advanced stage when they announced the financial troubles. Did she find out late? Or was she battling it in private? If it did go undiagnosed was that due to lack of healthcare or incompetent doctors?

Yeah, cancer or any terminal disease is horrible for anyone working a regular 9-5 or maybe even worse for hardly working actors. The bills are crippling.

@ Brenden, thanks for the info about SAG. In the black community our rate of dying is higher. I think it’s lack of resourses/info. Most don’t get adequate health care, when we finally go see a doctor, our disease has progressed. I had a mamogram per my doctors request @ 38. White woman are diagnosed w/breast cancer more, but their rate of survival is higher. The guy who pays my sarlary wife had Cervical Cancer 6 yrs. ago. She caught it quick, she’s a Nurse. She’s fine.

Yes, it takes a toll on the entire support team. We just laid my mother-in -law to rest on May 25, after a 4 year battle to cancer. It started out as breast cancer and then spread to her liver and colon. She put up an awesome fight and was inspiration to everyone around her. SHE FOUGHT TO the last end.
Cancer is such a tragic disease,My mother was diagnosed with Stage4 Cancer Sept 16,2011 she passed away Dec 18,2011.it took her quickly it was so sudden she was only 58..And why Not going to the doctor,not getting check ups.Not taking care of her.

Anyone that uses my shower, we have a self breast exam on the shower head hook. The simple phrase “early detection” is the key.

One of my BFFs dad passed from Stomach Cancer. Men don’t go to the doctor, until they are curled up in a ball. He went quickly after diagnosis. I was just a teen, but to see him get so thin so fast, was freigtning.
Cancer took my father when I was 16. My Aunt battled with 4 different cancers before she died last year and my besties mom last year. Cancer may not be a living being but I hate it all the same. Early detection is the key. When I was 25 I found a lump and had a mammogram.I check myself frequently cause it scares the shyt out of me. It was benign but I get checked regularly. This is very serious!

Always do after your period since breast tend to change. Limit cafine like teas and soda because it makes our breast cystics.
Cervical Cancer is preventive it’s not genetic. One of the HPV strands of this virus that is sexually transmitted causes cervical cancer. Endometrial cancer is another one. When we gain weight especially black women we produce too much estrogen that causes the lining to of the uterus to thicken. Other factors plays a part also but women need to get routine breast, mammograms and pap smears every year. The hell with the new guidelines as long as I have a uterus that my cervix is attached to I will be on that GYN table every year.
RIP Yvette Wilson you were taken from us too soon. But GoD has other things in mind for you.
One aunt has lung cancer diagnosed 7 yrs ago but now nothing else they can do 4 tumors on each lung, and now its spreading to her breathing passage hard for her to breathe , chemo is not an option no more
my other aunt has a rare form of cancer not sure what the name is but its near her jaw. It latches on sort of like a tree branch type, they was able to remove most of it, but it has left her face disfigured 
well now she is having trouble breathing and swallowing, just awful. please keep both sisters in ya prayers. It’s been really hard for them

Thanks. Self Breast Exams and Paps, do save lives. My Husband had a Colon Scope “invasion” for the first time a few yrs ago. We need to quit letting ppl pleasure our body, and allow a Doctor to “Check us out”. No one of any color should put off getting a check up . No it’s not fun. When they take my blood pressure before my exame its high, when all the tests are done, and over my blood pressure is normal. We as ppl have to quit “anticipating” for a reason to not visit a doctor.
S/N. I am 44, hubby is 49. I want us to stay healthy /married for the next 30 yrs. I know how to be poor, that “for health and in sickness” vow scares me the most. Gotta go, just called hubby, got a date.

Brenden thank you for all the info you posted, I am going to find the website and donate. To all dealing with cancer, my prayers go out to you. My mother had a very aggressive form of uterine cancer and because we caught it very early, 12 years later we can say she is cancer free.
Ladies do your annual pap and mammogram, it it the only way to safeguard and give you a fighting chance. Even if you do not have insurance, check with the state for free clinics, they are out there.

One year i had an abnormal biopsy after a routine pap in my early twenties. I was so scared. Its no joke. I go Every year. If my insurance would approve a mamogram i would go for that as well but Im only 30 so of course they dont cover it.
Sooo sad.. My first boyfriend died when we were 21 to stomache cancer. I also never new it existed. It was so weird because his family carries the sickle cell trait and it straight up skipped him and he got Cancer instead. SMH RIP RJ

Yes, Please Sandra does a post a medical minute on cervical cancer. Nothing can be totally prevented, but we can take precautions to try and prevent it.
One of ways to help prevent cervical cancer is to NOT get a STD’s. The more STD’s one has it can be a precursor to cancer, example HPV is one. My aunt died of cervical cancer; she was married to a dirty maggot, which slept around and brought things home. She was a good woman….He died a few years later of a heart attack
