Triple Murder Suspect May Be Hiding Out in New Orleans

Did you hear the story about the man who wiped out an entire family in Gwinnett County last month?

I didn’t either, and I read the AJC every day.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Robert E. Bell, 33, has been on the run since Sept. 15 when he gunned down three members of the same family and injured a fourth person in a home near Snellville, just east of Atlanta.

Among the dead are Angelina Benton, 34, Benton’s 12-year-old son, Joseph McDonald, and her 19-year-old godson, Raynard Daniel.

Bell had been staying with the family for about 2 weeks. He and his victims are black.

This story blows a hole in the theory put forth by the raging rednecks who populate conservative blogs in Georgia, who say the media is actively suppressing stories about blacks killing whites.

Can you imagine the wall-to-wall news coverage about the murders if the family had been white? Or better yet, if Bell had shot a cop?

Police say the motive of the shooting was a domestic dispute. Bell lay in wait for the victims and shot them one by one as they returned home from a trip.

Bell shot the victims with an assault rifle, which he left behind after fleeing on foot.

Police believe Bell stole a pickup truck about a half mile away from the home and drove to New Orleans where he’s been hiding out. The owner of the pickup truck reported it stolen on Sept. 17.

Police tracked Bell to New Orleans where they located the stolen pickup truck. Crime Stoppers Atlanta is offering $5000 reward for information leading to Bell’s arrest.
